FOR EXCAVATION, BACKFILLING
AND COMPACTION WORK
1. SCOPE OF WORK
Numbers and quantities of above equipment will be selected to suit the contract
program and available works areas.
1.4.1 General
Prior to the manual and mechanical excavation work, the site supervisor shall carry
out preliminary studies for potential risks involve on the activities area.
The related area shall be hard barricades and proper signage displayed at the sight
to prevent heavy traffic, tripping and potential hazards that maybe found on site and
the site precaution measures are needed. (Please refer to JSA)
o The area to be excavated shall be properly marked and clear before starting
the works.
o Excavated area shall be hard barricades and with proper signage display to
prevent falling hazards.
o Excavated soil shall be stockpile not closer than 1 m away from the
excavation hole wall and dispose off when achieved required depth.
o Before the compaction starts, it shall make sure that the excavated level is
free from standing water.
o For foundation, as soon as the excavation reaches the required elevation the
surface shall be level and shall be compact.
o Backfilling shall be placed in layers not more than 300 mm thick in loose form,
followed by compaction test (Field Density Test). Subsequence backfill layer
shall carry out with same sequence till the require elevation
1.4.4 Dewatering
o Prior to prevent underground water, rain water stagnant in the surface and will
create disrupted to the progress of whole activities.
o During excavation process, perimeter drainage system with pump sump shall
be provided for dewatering purpose in order to prevent water stagnant on the
excavated surface

Ample signboards, warning, safety instruction, etc, shall be made available at all
strategic locations.
