For the Facilitator:
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both from
public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the learners
meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their personal, social,
and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent learning
activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help learners acquire the
needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in the body of the
module: Routine Maintenance of Workplace
As a facilitator, you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this module. You also
need to keep track of the learners’ progress while allowing them to manage their own
learning. Furthermore, you are expected to encourage and the learners as they do the tasks
included in the module.

This module encourages you to follow the procedures of keeping the workers
safe as well as maintaining the workplace. Various activities are provided for
you to meet the target skills.
At the end of this module, you are expected to:
define maintenance in the farm workplace;
discuss the principles of cleaning in the workplace as part of the
routine maintenance; and,
recognize the importance of risk assessment and 5s principles in the
maintenance of farm.

Cleaning Re-usable Containers
The farmer and/or farm workers responsible for cleaning re-usable containers must
adhere as much as possible to the following procedures:
Remove as much as possible plant debris, soil, and residues of any kind, use
a brush or appropriate tool when necessary.
Inspect containers for physical damage which might injure, spoil, and
contaminate fresh vegetables, if found, repair them.
Inspect containers for any missed plant debris, soi,l and residues, if found, re-
clean.
If cleaning and/or disinfection chemicals are used, follow label instructions for
mixing.
Rinse containers with clean water.
When possible, containers should be placed in the full sun for rapid drying.
Store re-usable containers properly to avoid contamination.
The farmer and/or farm workers responsible for cleaning hygienic facilities must
adhere as much as possible to the following procedures:

Many hazards are present in the farm. If the farmers are not aware of these
hazards these may cause injury to their body or may cause diseases and even
death. Farmer should always apply appropriate safety measures while working in the
farm.
Hazard is the potential for harm or an adverse effect (for example, to people
as health effects, to organizations as property or equipment losses, or to the
environment).
When people are exposed with hazard his life may be in danger or harm this is
called risk.
Risk is the likelihood that a hazard may cause injury, ill or sudden death to a
person at workplace.

Main benefits of implementing 5S are:
Any routine maintenance activity in the workplace should follow the standard
of the Occupational Safety and Health Procedure (OHSP) which was prescribed by
the labor law to keep the workers safe and healthy when he/she is at the workplace.
