Dear Families,

Welcome to fourth grade! Our team is looking forward to a splendid year partnering with you to
ensure your child's success! We want to make sure you feel connected to your child's school
experience and are aware of what he/she is learning.

Communication:
Please contact your child's teacher anytime you have a question or concern. If you wish to
discuss your child's progress in depth, your student's teacher would be happy to schedule an
appointment with you. The best ways to contact your student's teacher is voicemail, email, or a
note in your child's planner.

Each day your child will bring home any finished work and on Thursday, notices from the school
and community happenings will be sent home.

Email/voicemail is checked before school and after school. You can expect your call/email to be
returned within 24 hours. If you need to get a message to your child's teacher quickly, please
call the front office.

Safety:
All parents and other visitors must check in at the front office and wear a visitor's badge. You
will not be allowed in the classroom without a badge. This is for the safety of all the students.

Expectations in Fourth Grade:

The fourth-grade curriculum is exciting and intense. Your child will be working at school from
bell to bell. She/he will have homework most nights and it will be due the very next morning;
typically, Monday - Thursday. You can support your child by setting up a quiet place for
homework to be completed. Homework reflects that day's class work. Please do not do your
child's homework. We need to be able to evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson. Homework
allows us to check for understanding.
Behavior expectations are set very high. All students are expected to follow all school rules
outlined in the RCS parent/student handbook. You can expect your child to be treated with
dignity and respect. We, in turn, expect the same from your child towards their peers and staff
personnel. Your child's teacher will communicate any concerns and solicit your support to solve
any problems.

Grading:

Your student will be graded on their proficiency of specific skills. Daily work is considered
practice that will lead to mastery. Look for the following marks on your child's school work to
assess their progress. Homework is structured for retaining what was learned during the school
day.
Grading Scale
90 - 100 A
80 - 89 B
70 - 79 C
60 - 69 D
59 and below F

Planners:

Once our planners arrive at RCA you child will bring home his/her planner. From time to time,
you may see notes from the teacher regarding your child's achievements or challenges that day.
Feel free to write notes in the planner.

Attendance/Illness:

Time flies when you're having fun and we are going to have an awesome year! It is VERY
important to your child's success that they are in school as much as possible. If your child is
running a fever, or too ill to attend class, call the front office to report your child's absence. If
your child has been diagnosed with strep throat or another highly-contagious illness, please tell
your child's teacher or the front office staff so the classroom can be sanitized.
We are passionate about providing an environment in which children and families feel nurtured
and supported. We look forward to the new year and inviting each of you into our classroom
families.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Gossage
Ms. White
Mrs. Crowther
Mrs. Conant
