ABSTRACT

Image processing and LoT sensor monitoring network technology has taken the
evolutions of sensors to a completely different level. The conflicts between
human and animal become a major problem in the agriculture field and in the
forest zone which leads to human life in danger and also losing a huge quantity of
resources. To solve this problems animal intrusion and repellant system has been
introduced.
The sensors present on it will detect the presence of animals entering the farming
area and it will identify the animal and start making noises to repel the animal. By
this method there is no need of any support of labour for working this ,it’s an
automated process working on solar powered. The efficiency rate is also high.
By this method it is proved that about 80 percentage of animal attacks has been
eliminated .

INTRODUCTION

- Human-Wildlife Conflict is becoming a serious issue with the

increase in human population and decrease in forest cover. This
conflict is costing lives of both Animals and Humans at alarming
rates. Existing methods like electric fences are no longer efficient in
solving such conflicts, so we decided to come up with a smarter
solution that could protect the crops from animal intrusions without
causing any harm to the wildlife. This led to the invention
of ANIDERS (Animal Intrusion Detection and Repellent System), a
device that works like a Mechanized scare crow. It detects the
animals that intrude the fields and scares them away before they
can cause any harm to the crops. ANIDERS uses the combination
of Active and Passive Infrared sensors to detect the animal
movements and then uses light and alarm system to repel them.

- Features such as Solar Powered, Auto ON/OFF, Multiple Sound

and Light Patterns and Real-time Communication via GSM makes
it even more effective and a greener technology. Results obtained
after rigorous testing done by WWF India stated that, the device
successfully repelled the animals 86% of the times, which in turn
resulted in 60% increased crop yield.

- Human Wildlife Conflicts have caused a stream of major changes in the
agricultural patterns and practices nationwide. To protect their crops from
getting damaged because of animal intrusions, farmers have been using
electric fences around their fields and areas where the fencing don’t prove
efficient, farmers prefer to stay up all night and guard their fields from
animal intrusions. Practices like these have done more harm than good for
us and in extreme cases, it has even costed lives of both man and animals.
- Considering the inefficiencies and shortcoming of these existing practices,
an enthusiastic team decided to come up with a solution that protected the
crops from animal intrusions without causing any harm to the wildlife. This
lead to the invention of ANIDERS (Animal Intrusion Detection and
Repellent System), that works like a mechanized Scarecrow planted on the
boundaries of the fields . The device detects the animals that have intruded
the field and scares them away before they can cause harm to the crops.

HOW IT WORKS

- ANIDERS uses Infrared Technology to sense the approaching animal and
repels the animal away from the farm safely. It eliminates the need of
Electric Fences. It uses a combination of AIR(Active infrared) and
PIR(Passive infra red) sensors to detect intrusion of any animal entering
the farm and then it uses electrical signal to trigger and alarm that repels
the detected animal away..
- The alarm uses a combination of light and sound and also the device is
solar powered so, there is no need any power supply to charge it’s
battery..
- It charges itself during the day and gets switched on automatically at
night..
- Two PIR sensors put together covers a diameter of about 30 meters..
- After the intrusion has been detected , Aniders will automatically tell the
location of the animal by flashing spot light towards it and will trigger
the alarm system of they sector..
- Since animals tend to get accustomed to the recurring sounds and lights
in their surroundings, ordinary alarming systems will work in the
beginning but its effectiveness will decrease sharply with time. To
overcome this shortcoming, ANIDERS was programmed to use different
permutations and combinations of light and sound patterns that changes
every time an intrusion was detected. This will delay the habituation in
animals.

EFFECTIVENESS OF ANIDERS

- The first unit was installed in a small village named Kyari,

situated in the buffer zone of Jim Corbett National Park. After
being rigorously tested for about a year, statistics collected with
the help of WWF India, were quite astonishing. The device could
repel the animals 90% of the times they intruded the fields which
in turn resulted in 60% increase in the yield of that field. The
highlight of the experiment was that all these results were
achieved without causing any harm to the wildlife in and around
the farms.
- In 2017, WWF India made an extensive report by installing
camera traps near ANIDERS and collected data by strictly
monitored the animal reactions upon the trigger of ANIDERS’s
Alarm System. The report showed that ANIDERS works for all
animals of sizes ranging from Elephants to Hare (wild Rabbit).
This was a breakthrough information. A typical farmland
experiences intrusions of animals like Elephants, Sambar Deer,

Wild Bore, Nilgai and chital, solutions that may work for big
animals like fencing and guarding the fields, may not work for
smaller animals. ANIDERS can protect the farmlands against all
potential animal intrusions.

IMPACTS OF USING ANIDERS

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

- Using physical barriers like fencing cuts the animal corridors.

This system detected the animal 368 times, out of which the
animal was repelled for 86% (316) of these instances of
detection.

SOCIAL IMPACT

- Electric Fences that are currently used to prevent animals from

entering the farms are extremely dangerous for both, animals
Android humans. Thousands of animals die by getting
electrocuted every year, Domestic animals are also amongst
them. In addition to it, fences have high installation costs and
heavy maintenance which is not the case with ANIDERS.
- The second alternative used by the villages are Gandhi
Bandooks. They stay up all night to guard the fields and fire
Gandhi bandook to scare away the animal in case an intrusion is
observed. This is not only dangerous for the humans but also
makes their lives difficult.

ECONOMIC IMPACT

- Electric fences involves huge initial investment and have high

maintenance costs involved, on the other hand, ANIDERS has
zero running and maintenance cost.

PROTECTING AGRICULTURAL LAND

- Farmers near protect forest areas suffer great crop loss due to
crop raiding by wild animal like elephants, wild boar and deer.
ANIDERS, when installed in the periphery of farmland,

successfully detects and repels such animals 91% of the times.
This in turn can lead up to 60% increase in crop yield. It protects
the fields 24*7 without the need of human intervention.

APPLICATIONS OF ANIDERS

The applications of Aniders are mainly:-

ANIDERS FOR WILDLIFE CONSERVATION

- Traditional HWC mitigating practices followed by humans have

proved to be deadly and torturous for animals. Practices like
installing electric fences, digging up trenches and building solid
walls have disrupted the natural flow of wildlife and do great
amount of damage that in long term. ANIDERS has been
designed to be 100% nature safe. It forms a virtual barrier of
protection through infrared sensing and triggers an alarm when
an animal intrusion is sensed. This virtual barrier takes care
of Animal Corridors and ensures that the animal is repelled
without any harm. The alarm sounds are unique and random,
this ensures that animals don’t get habituated to them. We have
worked with top organizations in conservation like IUCN, UNDP,
WWF, WII and Elephants Without Borders.Wild Labs, a global
community of technologists and conservationists based out of
New Zealand, also mentioned in their case study that ANIDERS is
currently the best solution available in market to mitigate
Human Wildlife Conflict.

ANIDERS FOR FARMLANDS

- Due to lack of an effective solution to protect farmlands from

wild animals intrusions, farmers either install high tension
electric fences or stay up all night to manually guard their
fields. This is not only dangerous for the animals but also for the
farmers and their families. Countless animal lives are lost each
year due to electrocution and many farmers die due to
confrontation with wild animals. ANIDERS is solar powered stand
alone device that can be easily installed in the periphery of the
farmland. It raises a light and sound alarm when senses an
intrusion. It works throughout night without any human
intervention. This device can sense a sector of about 100 Feet in
diameter

ANIDERS FOR RAILWAYS

- Most of the railways line cut through animal corridors and

countless wild animals die each year on railway tracks due to
train accidents. ANIDERS, if installed alongside the railway tracks,
can save the precious lives of these animals by protecting them
of approaching danger. When a train is approaching, ANIDERS
can repel the wild animals that are approaching towards the
railway tracks.

ANIDERS FOR HIGHWAYS

- Highways that cut through dense forests usually have high rates
of animal deaths due to accidents. ANIDERS can be installed
alongside the highways to monitor the animal movement and to
protect them from heavy traffic on the road. We did a pilot
project on Delhi- Jaipur highway with CISCO to implement a
monitoring system near toll plaza.
- Whenever an animal is approaching the towards a busy highway,
ANIDERS would trigger an alarm system to warn the animal away
from the highway. When the traffic is low and subdued, animals
can be allowed to cross the road with safety.

ANIDERS FOR SURVEILLANCE

- In order to monitor the animal movements and intrusion in an

area, ANIDERS can be integrated with GSM facility. Upon any
movement detection, an alert can be received in real time on a
registered mobile number. This is specially helpful when the

owner wants to remotely monitor the intrusions. The GSM
facility can be integrated with a dashboard to view and record
the intrusions in a structured manner.
- ANIDERS, integrated with a complete surveillance package, can
be used as a powerful surveillance tool: Real time intrusion
alerts, intrusion data presented on a dashboard, infrared alarm
system and sector specific detection.

MANUFACTURING COST

- When we consider Aniders with conventional barriors like

electric fences and other we found that Aniders is slight costly.

- The company named kyari is first founded the theme Aniders to

protect wild life animals and human life .Bur the challenge faced

by the company is that it is a product for the masses, and should

be produced in large numbers. The company thus requires huge

investment to start the production at large scale.

- Currently, the device is ready and is in the market. The renowned

NGOs like WWF India and Institutes like WII have bought the

device and are testing it pan India. While the basic model is

priced at Rs 10,000/- which is still not affordable for small scale

farmers, the company intends to bring down the cost needs

funding boost to produce the device on a larger scale.

- As per KYARI founders, the total Farmers in India stand at

approximately 26.3 crore and nearly 1/10th of report intrusion in

their farms out of which 1/10th of farmers can afford the device

in its current form. While the average land per farmer is 2.5 acre,

devices required per farm are 3 in number. The potential units to

be sold are 67,85,400 in a market size Rs 3500 crore

- The manufacturing cost depends upon the number of orders

and bulk production.

CONCLUSION

- It is found that there is a proper treatment for human and

wildlife conflict which can improve crops yield ,production and

lack of loss . In which Aniders is found to be a proper method for

it without any negative impacts for both human and animals and

also this method is highly reliable and efficiently proved by many

experiments and works.

- The high production rate can leads to the decrease in

manufacturing cost so that small scale farmers can also adopt

this proper technique for their farm lands .

- Not only for farmlands the applications of Aniders is vast and

also high success rate In highways ,railways, surveillance, and so

on.
