Starting Prayer
Meaning:
योगेन िच य पदन े वाचां । आबा पु षाकारं । श खच ािस To purify the mind and consciousness (chitta),
मलं शरीर य च वै के न ॥ धा रणं॥ Patanjali gave the science of Yoga to us. To
सह शीरसं ेतं। नमािम purify our speech (vachan) he gave a
योऽपाकरो मं वरं मुनीनां । पत िलम्॥ commentary on grammar to us, so that our use
of words is clari ied, distinct and pure.
पत ल ा िलरानतोऽि म ॥ To remove impurities of the body he gave us
Yogena Chittasya Padena ॐ शाि तः शाि तः शाि तः ॐ॥ the science of medicine (vaidyakena). Let me
Vaachaam go near the one who gave these things to us.
Aabahu Purushakaram Let me bow down my head with my hands
Malam Sharirasya Cha folded to sage Patanjali.
Vaidyakena || Shankha Chakrasi Dharinam || From the hand up to the head he has the shape
Yopa Karottam Pravaram Sahasra Sirasam Shwetam of a human. In his hand he is holding conch
Muneenam Pranamami Patanjalim II and disc. On top of his head he has got a
thousand hooded cobra as he is the
Patanjalim Pranjaliranatosmi || reincarnation of God Adisesha. I bow to
Patanjali.

ॐ सह नाववतु । Om Saha Naav[au]-Avatu |


Saha Nau Bhunaktu |
सह नौ भुन ु । Saha Viiryam Karavaavahai |
सह वीय करवावहै । Tejasvi Naava-Adhiitam-Astu Maa Vidvissaavahai |
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||
तेजि व नावधीतम तु मा िवि षावहै ।
ॐ शाि तः शाि तः शाि तः ॥

Meaning:
1: Om, May God Protect us Both (the Teacher and the Student) (during the journey of awakening our Knowledge),
2: May God Nourish us Both (with that spring of Knowledge which nourishes life when awakened),
3: May we Work Together with Energy and Vigour (cleansing ourselves with that low of energy for the Knowledge to
manifest),
4: May our Study be Enlightening (taking us towards the true Essence underlying everything), and not giving rise to
Hostility (by constricting the understanding of the Essence in a particular manifestation only),
5: Om, Peace, Peace, Peace (be there in the three levels - Adhidaivika, Adhibhautika and Adhyatmika).

ॐ असतो मा स मय । Om Asato Maa Sad-Gamaya |


Tamaso Maa Jyotir-Gamaya |
तमसो मा योितगमय । Mrtyor-Maa Amrtam Gamaya |
मृ योमा अमृतं गमय । Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||
ॐ शाि तः शाि तः शाि तः ॥
Meaning:
1: Om, (O Lord) Keep me not in the Unreality (of the bondage of the Phenomenal World), but lead me towards the
Reality (of the Eternal Self),
2: (O Lord) Keep me not in the Darkness (of Ignorance), but lead me towards the Light (of Spiritual Knowledge),
3: (O Lord) Keep me not in the (Fear of) Death (due to the bondage of the Mortal World), but lead me towards the
Immortality (gained by the Knowledge of the Immortal Self beyond Death),
4: Om, (May there be) Peace, Peace, Peace (at the the three levels - Adidaivika, Adibhautika and Adhyatmika).

Ending Prayer
ॐ सव भव तु सुिखनः। Om, Sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ
सव स तु िनरामयाः। Sarve santu nirā mayā ḥ
सव भ ािण प य तु। Sarve bhadrā ṇ i paś yantu
Mā kashchit duḥ kha bhā gbhavet
मा कि त् दःुख भा भवेत्॥
ॐ शाि तः शाि तः शाि तः ॥ Oṁ Shā ntiḥ , Shā ntiḥ , Shā ntiḥ

Meaning:
May all be prosperous and happy, May all be free from illness, May all see what is spiritually uplifting, May no
one suffer, Om peace, peace, peace

ॐ Om ayaM mE hastO bhagavAnayaM mE bhagavattaraH |


ayaM mE vishvabhEShajO&yaM shivAbhimarshanaH
अ॒यं मॆ॒ ह तॊ॒ भग॑वान॒यं मॆ॒ भग॑व रः ।
(ayaM mE hastO bhagavAn ayaM mE bhagavattaraH |
अ॒यं मॆ॑ िव॒ भॆ॑षजॊ॒ऽयं िश॒वािभ॑मशनः ॥ ayaM mE vishva bhEShajO ayaM shiva abhimarshanaH || )

Meaning:
My this hand is the God. My this hand is higher than God!
My this hand holds all the healing. My this hand is the one that touches shiva!

ॐ पूणमदः पूणिमदं पूणा पुणमुद यते Om Puurnnam-Adah Puurnnam-Idam Puurnnaat-


Purnnam-Udacyate
पूण य पूणमादाय पूणमेवाविश यते ॥ Puurnnasya Puurnnam-Aadaaya Puurnnam-Eva-
ॐ शाि तः शाि तः शाि तः ॥ Avashissyate ||
Om Shaantih Shaantih Shaantih ||

Meaning:
1: Om, That (Outer World) is Purna (Full with Divine Consciousness); This (Inner World) is also Purna (Full with
Divine Consciousness); From Purna comes Purna (From the Fullness of Divine Consciousness the World is
manifested)
2: Taking Purna from Purna, Purna Indeed Remains (Because Divine Consciousness is Non-Dual and Infinite).
3: Om Peace, Peace, Peace.

The aim of Yoga is to experience that completeness which is nothing but pure blissful freedom.
and ... Regular practice of Yoga has unbelievable bene its on your health. Reap those bene its with
faith and practice for a passionately ful illing life.
