Domestic orders fell by 17.1% from December, amounting to 26.41 billion yen. This marked
the month-on-month decline for the first time in two months. Moreover, this figure was a
decline of 10.8% from the same month of the previous year and marked the twenty-sixth
consecutive months of year-on-year decline. Looking at major industries, orders compared to
December fell by 21.2% in industrial machinery, by 11.4% in motor vehicles, by 14.3% in
electrical & precision machinery, and by 17.8% in aircraft, shipbuilding & transport
equipment.
Foreign orders fell by 7.2% from December to 62.22 billion yen, marked the first month of
month-on-month decline for three months. Nevertheless, foreign orders showed an increase of
21.5% over the same month of the previous year, and this marked the third consecutive month
of year-on-year growth. By region, orders from Asia fell by 13.9% from December to 35.60
billion yen. This was an increase of 82.5% over the same month of the previous year. Orders
from Europe rose by 9.8% over December to 10.78 billion yen. This was a decrease of 12.9%
from the same month of the previous year. Orders from North America fell by 13.4% from
December, amounting to 14.09 billion yen. This figure was a decline of 22.5% from the same
month of the previous year.
