Advocacy Paper
There are many issues in this world that people need to advocate for. As a person who
wants to become a teacher, I care about what kind of education children receive. The issue of
education has come up in several conversations recently and I, as well as many others want this
issue resolved. All children, no matter their race, disability, or economic status, deserve to have
a good education. This specific issue has an effect on my life and my future. As I become more
familiar with the world of education, I want to make sure that I teach my students what they
need to succeed. Teachers or push the bad or more difficult students aside, are not helping
them succeed. A teacher needs to care about their students, not just the paycheck that comes
along with the job. I have seen what happens when teachers do not help students that need it.
They fall even farther behind. It does not matter what it is, we need to help that student. The
world today is filled with judgement and hatred towards others who are different. As teachers,
we need to educate our students to love others, even if they are different. Building a
community in the classroom can help grow a community outside of school.
The issue of education needs to be solved. There are many ways that I and others can
advocate for children, so they can have a better education. One way that we can advocate is to
set up after-school programs. These after-school programs give the children the opportunity to
get the extra help they need from their teachers. It also allows children who parents might
work late to have help with any homework and a place that is safe until their parent gets home.
Another way we can advocate is to have a committee who promotes diversity. It is important
that students understand that being different is not a bad thing. We would have a committee
who meets weekly and speaks at assemblies monthly or bi-weekly about diversity. They will
discuss ways the school can help children that are diverse. Children of color, with disabilities,
and low economic status do not always receive the same as others. The committee will also
hold assemblies, where they speak about diversity and we need to treat everyone kindly and
equally. Being an advocate for education can help schools change their ways and begin to
accept children of diverse families and treat them equally, giving them the education, they
deserve.
