8 Overview of Boards

Describes the classification and appearance of boards.

8.1 Overview of Electrical-layer Service Board Naming Conventions


This topic introduces the naming conventions for electrical-layer service boards.

This topic describes the warning symbol and label affixed to all boards.
8.4 Board Barcodes
The barcode of a board is provided on the front panel of the board and shows the
basic information about the board, including the BOM number and delivery time.

8.1 Overview of Electrical-layer Service Board Naming


Conventions
This topic introduces the naming conventions for electrical-layer service boards.

For the OSN 1800, the electrical-layer service boards are named in accordance
with the following naming structure:

Generally, a board name consists of 14 letters and digits in total:


● 1 to 4 bits indicate the hardware version, such as TNF1, TNF5, and TNZ5.
● 5 to 11 bits indicate the board name. Different types of boards have different
board names, which contain less than or equal to seven bits. For naming

conventions for different electrical-layer service boards, see the detailed


description of each type of board.
● 12 to 14 bits indicate the extension name of the board.

8.2 Dimensions of Boards


This topic describes the dimensions of the boards.

CAUTION

Always wear an ESD wrist strap when holding a board, and ensure that the ESD
wrist strap is well grounded, to prevent static discharge from damaging the board.

The dimensions of boards are shown in the following table.

NOTE

The depth of a board refers to the length from the backplane connector to the front panel,
excluding dimensions of protruding components such as ejector levers, terminals, and optical
modules.

8.3 Symbols on Boards


This topic describes the warning symbol and label affixed to all boards.

DANGER

It is strictly forbidden to stare into optical ports during fiber installation and
maintenance, because the laser beam inside the fibers would hurt your eyes.

Laser safety class label This shows that the laser


safety class of the board
is HAZARD LEVEL 1M,
indicating that the
output optical power of
the board optical port
ranges from 10.00 dBm
to 21.3 dBm (10.00 mW
to 136 mW). It warns
users not to look directly
at fiber connectors
without using protective
measures. Always use an
optical instrument that
can attenuate optical
power when working
with boards.

The laser safety class


label CLASS 1 indicates
that the maximum
optical power of the
optical port is less than
10 dBm (10 mW).

8.4 Board Barcodes


The barcode of a board is provided on the front panel of the board and shows the
basic information about the board, including the BOM number and delivery time.

Figure 8-2 shows a one-dimensional barcode, and Table 8-2 provides the
description of the barcode.

NOTE

The barcode shown in the figure is used as an example only and it may differ in practice.

Table 8-2 Description of the one-dimensional barcode


No. Item Description

1 Type Code Indicates whether a board is a manufactured or finished


board. "02" indicates a manufactured board and "03"
indicates a finished board.

2 BOM Code Indicates the last four digits of an 8-bit BOM number.

3 Vendor Indicates the vendor of a board. "10" indicates Huawei.

4 Manufacture Indicates the last digit of the year when a board is


Year manufactured. For example, "4" indicates 2004. From
2010 onwards, a letter is used to indicate the
manufacture year. For example, letter A indicates 2010,
letter B indicates 2011, and so on.

5 Manufacture Indicates the month when a board is manufactured.


Month The value is expressed in hexadecimal format. For
example, letter B indicates November.

6 Serial Number Indicates the production serial number of a board. The


value ranges from 000001 to 999999.

board.
