exercises A, B, and C from page 95.

A- IDENTIFY DUPPORTING DETAILS Circle T (true) or F (false). Explain each of your

B- PARAPHIRASE What are the main differences in the dress codes of Turkey and
Unite States? Use the Vocabulary form page 94 in your description.

In Turkey, tourists tend to dress more moderately, short-sleeved blouses for women
and short-sleeved shirts for men. To visit historical places, they tend to go more
formal. To visit the mosque, the level of clothing that they must carry is very strict.
Women must cover their knees, shoulders and head. While on the beaches he is very
liberal with shorts, sandals, etc.

In unites states it is very dependent on the region. You can search the internet for
clothing for each place you want to visit. That they are generally very liberal. You can
wear sandals, shorts, and a short-sleeved shirt for informal settings. But young people
often dress wild. But it is inappropriate to go to schools, restaurants or religious
institutions.

C- APPLY INFROMATION Imagine you are going on a trip to New York in June,
when the weather is warm or hot during the day and cool at night. You want to
go nice restaurants and visit historic place and parks. Plan your clothes for a
one-week visit. Be specific. Explain your choices.

The first thing I would choose would be everyday clothes. Some shorts to be at home
and some polo shirts to accompany it. Also, some long pants for somewhat informal
places considering the rural nature of the place. Some shirts for more formal things
and smoking if necessary, with a tie. He would wear sandals to be at home but relaxed
tennis shoes to go out. More daily polo shirts than anything else and many shirts for
restaurants and jackets for more formal things or religious activities.

2. Copy and complete exercises B, C, and D  from page 96.

B- Express your opinion. Complete the chart with appropriate kinds of shoes and
clothes for certain places ad occasions.

C- Complete the travel article with comparative form of each adjective. Use than
when necessary.

Travel & Clothing


When you travel, think carefully about the clothes you pack. As far as is concerned,
darker (1- dark) colors are usually more practical (2- practical). For cooler (3- cool)
destinations, a blazer can be more convenient than (4- convenient) a windbreaker or
cardigan because you can wear it in more conservative (5- conservative) settings such
as offices and more formal (6- formal) restaurant. For travel to hotter (7- hot) areas of
the world, lighter (8- light) clothes are more comfortable than (9- comfortable) heavier
(10- heavy) ones.

D- Rewrite each sentence. Change the underline prepositional and noun phrases to
object pronouns.

CRITICAL THINKING Base on the reading and your own ideas, discuss the following
topics.

1 Why do you think airlines overbook flight?


I think that despite being more comfortable it is very unreliable since some passengers
who reserve seats stay on the flight due to the limited number of seats.

2 Are there some advantages of getting bumped from a flight? What are they?
There are no advantages, it is always a bad idea. You are delayed on the flight and will
not reach you.

3 What are some advantages of GPS systems? What are some disadvantages?
The advantages are that you have all the information without counting on the margin
of human error that can occur unlike paper maps or the experience of a human. The
disadvantages are that these systems can fail and are left without remedy, although
the probability is minimal.

4 Do you prefer GPS system, online maps with instructions, or paper maps? Explain.
I prefer the GPS System for the security and greater confidence that they give. We
have been using it for years and the amount of damage can be counted, they are few.
