✓ Activity 1. Overview
Good morning everyone
Today, we are discussing comparative degree used with adjective and noun
Adjectives of comparison are used to compare differences between the two objects
they modify (larger, smaller, faster, higher). They are used in sentences where two
nouns are compared.
Learn the following list of comparison:
Noun of comparison can be identified by the use of more with noun phrases to create
comparisons which are similar to the comparative forms of adjectives. The examples
are:
- There was more rain this year than last year
- He has more problems than everyone
This is an optional activity. Does any one can explain how to make a degree of
comparison by using an adjective?
For example: smaller vs more important (How do they have differentiate form?)
Note: This activity is not a requirement. You can have the answer or you may skip
this activity. If you want to answer, just click reply and write down your explanation
in online text
My Answer :
A comparative degree is used to compare something that has more properties than
other things. The -er prefix is used for two-syllable words. For example, happy turns
into happier or big becomes bigger. Meanwhile, for words with more than two
syllables, use more. For example, beautiful becomes more beautiful or expensive
becomes more expensive. After the adjective or adverb, add the word than which
means 'rather than'
Example :
1. This sofa is more comfortable than that chair
2. I should learn more diligently next week
✓ Activity 4.

menggambarkan suatu perbandingan. Anda dapat memiih salah satu dari topik berikut,
atau Anda memiliki topik sendiri diperboehkan yang jelas didalamnya dapat
menggambarkan berbagai perbandingan yang menggunakan kata sifat atau kata benda
sesuai dengan pelajaran hari ini.

My Answer :
There is a clear difference between country life and city life. The village is a
settlement where the phase of life is rather slow. Most of the population density in a
village is low. Life in the village is simple and free. Pollution, corruption and
complexity are reduced. However compared to the village, city life is full of
excitement, complexity, etc. Fast life phase. This is the main difference between
country life and city life.
Village life is more comfortable than city life. Why do I say comfortable?
Because in the village there are still many shady trees, there is no air pollution, we
can still see the clear river flow,The river in the village is clearer than the river in the
city, rice fields and fields stretching out wide.Meanwhile, in the city there is less
trees than in the village, there is a lot of air pollution in the city.
The biggest difference between urban and country life is that there are more
opportunities in cities compared to villages. City areas allow people to benefit from a
number of facilities provided with various ways for them to make money. Also, city
areas offer better educational facilities for children.
Children in cities can get better education with better schools than in villages. In
addition, the city area provides better facilities for people as far as health services are
concerned. Shopping is another factor that needs to be discussed, people in cities have
better options for shopping while villagers have several opportunities for shopping
and in most cases, and people from the village often have to visit the nearest city for
most of their shoping. urban and rural communities. People in town have no time for
other people and are unfriendly most of the time. On the other hand, village people
like to help and maintain close relationships.

Comparative adjectives
Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between the two objects
they modify (larger, smaller, faster, higher). They are used in sentences where two
nouns are compared, in this pattern:
The second item of comparison can be omitted if it is clear from the context (final
example below).
Examples
My house is larger than hers.
This box is smaller than the one I lost.
Your dog is faster than Jim's dog.
The rock is higher than the roof.
Jim and Jack are both fast, but Jack is faster. ("than Jim" is understood)
Superlative adjectives
Superlative adjectives are used to describe an object which is at the upper or
lower limit of a quality (the tallest, the smallest, the fastest, the highest). They are
used in sentences where a subject is compared to a group of objects.
The group that is being compared with can be omitted if it is clear from the context
(final example below).
Examples
My house is the largest one in our neighborhood.
This is the smallest box I've ever seen.
Your dog was the fastest of any dog in the race.
We all have trees in our yard. My tree is the tallest. ("of all the trees" is understood)
Two syllables
Adjectives with two syllables can form the comparative either by adding -er or by
preceeding the adjective with more. These adjectives form the superlative either by
adding -est or by preceeding the adjective with most. In many cases, both forms are
used, although one usage will be more common than the other. If you are not sure
whether a two-syllable adjective can take a comparative or superlative ending, play it
safe and use more and most instead. For adjectives ending in y, change the y to an i
before adding the ending.
Adjective Comparative Superlative
Examples
Today is the worst day I've had in a long time.
Your painting is better than mine.
This is the least expensive sweater in the store.
This sweater is less expensive than that one.
His house is far from town, but her house is even farther.

✓ Overview
Learn the book (four corners) unit 6A
The lesson is present tense (simple and continuous) used for future.
In the following is its example of how the expression is used. George's plans for the
weekend.
Now, discuss with your friend in a group about the following issues:
1. Discuss how the present tense can be used to show the future activity.
2. Provide the examples of present tense used for future. It is recommended that every
member has his/her own.
Notes:
1. Discussion activity is done via text online. Every member is expected to contribute.
2. Provide the summary of your discussion at the end. Only one person as the
representative who writes the summary at the end of discussion.
3. Discuss with the group members as shown in the group division.
According to me
1. The simple present tense can certainly replace Future tense. To reveal activities in
the future or the future.
Ex:
Bai Lu and her family leave for Shanghai at 6 o’clock tomorrow morning.
Here is marked by a description of the future, That is tomorrow morning.
2. The present continuous tense is a form of tense used to express that an action is
taking place for a certain time in the present (present). This form shows that action it
occurs before (begins before), during (is in progress at the present), and continues
after (continues after) time or other action.

REQUESTS and OFFERS
- Can you check my homework, please?
- Could you pick me up at 10.30 am?
- Would you give me a ride to my doctor's appointment?
- Would you mind telling Josh that the meeting is tomorrow?
The auxiliary verbs such as 'can, could, would' and the expression of 'would you mind
+ verb+ing" are used to request in a conversation. Then, you can respond the request
by saying: sure, of course, I don't mind, etc. After the expression you can provide a
promise or offer by using 'will':
- Sure, I'll be there for you at any time
- No problem, I'll be very grateful
- No, I don't mind. I'll do it for you
You can probably decline a request. Remember, whenever you reject the request, you
should make an excuse, for example: I'd love to, but I have to leave early
✓ Work in pairs
Find a partner in your class. Do an English conversation via TEXT of WhatsApp
application (chatting). In your conversation, you can exchange requests and promises.
You can talk about campus, home, or etc. Screenshot your conversation (the chat),
then upload it. Every one uploads one. You can be a partner of more than one friend
whenever it is needed, but you should upload only one of them.
My Answer
A conversation about Asking and Offering
GIVING OPINION
Giving opinion is an expression in English that is used to express or express an
opinion. In this topic there will be 2 things that you have to learn :
When we negotiate, express opinions, or just chat with a friend, we often say /
express agree or disagree with other people. But we don't fight for our own opinions,
so we have to know how to show empathy with different opinions and also disagree
without sounding aggressive so that the ongoing conversation seems monotonous. We
need to express our opinions and, at the same time, show that we listen to, understand
and value other opinions. If they feel comfortable, they will be more open to our ideas,
opinions or suggestions.
In this article, I will provide a complete review of how to use the Asking and Giving
Opinion that you can apply in your daily life.
Tip: It is always a good idea to justify your opinions. Don't just say 'I agree' or 'I
disagree', but say 'I agree because I think that… (explain your reason)', etc.
Example:
Exa: The technology of this day, most of the young generation use the internet for
communication. It's easier to share the information. What do you think about that,
Jim?
Exa: Today's technology, most of the younger generation use the internet for
communication. It's easier to share information. What do you think about that, Jim?
Jim: Yes, you are absolutely right. We can't hide from technology. But there are lots
of negative impacts of the internet, especially for us as the students.
Jim: Yes, you are absolutely right. We can't hide from technology. But there are many
negative effects of the internet, especially for us as students.

5. Submit the results of your discussion in the form of ppt file.
6. The submission is only done by a representative (identify your group and the
members).

My Answer
▪ Type 0
Type 0 conditional sentences are still very simple and easy to understand. This type of
conditional sentence is used to say a fact by using the formula "if ... Then". Example. In
Indonesian, if we say "when it rains. The grass gets wet." It can also be expressed in
English
using the type 0 conditional. Because grass that gets wet when exposed to rain is a well-
known fact.
The formula that can be used is as follows.
✓ If + simple present, simple present
✓ Simple present + if + simple present
Example : - If you freeze water, it becomes ice.
- I feel sick if I eat too much.
- If you don’t brush your teeth, you get cavities.
▪ Type I
This type is also relatively easy to understand. Type I conditional sentences are used to
say
something that may happen in the future. The meaning. If you use this conditional
sentence,
it means that you are sure that the conditionality will still possibly happen in the
future. The formula used is as follows:
✓ If + simple present, present future (will)
✓ Present future + if + simple present
Example : - If Raina study hard, she will get A for the tests.
- If i have much money, i Will help poor people
- If you set your mind to a goal, you will eventually achieve it.
▪ Type 2
This type is used to say something that is very unlikely to happen. Or in other words it is
almost impossible to happen. This type of conditional sentence is suitable for
expressing
dreams and dreams.
The formula is:
✓ If + past tense, past future
✓ Past future + if + past tense
Example : - If the admission fee were cheap, we could get inside
- If i were a president, i would make indonesia be better
- If I owned a zoo, I might let people interact with the animals more
▪ Type 3
This third type is used to wish about something that is contrary to what has already
happened.
The formula is as follows :
✓ If + past perfect, future perfect
✓ Future perfect + if + past perfect
Example : - If I had arrived earlier, I would not have gotten scolded by teacher.
- If i had studied hard, i would have gotten a good job
