SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. Always weld in well ventilated place.

2. Do not weld around combustible materials

3. Never see the weld arc without weld shield.

4. Always wear the hand gloves, safety goggles, and apron.

5. Always use spark lighter to light the cutting / welding torch.

Experiment No. 1
OBJECT:
Study of tools and operation in welding shop.

EQUIPMENT USED IN WELDING SHOP:

1. Electric Holder: - It is used for holding the electrode.

2. Electrode: - Electrodes are made up of low carbon steel & iron. During
the welding the coasting of carbon removes and iron for welding.

3. Earth Clamps: - It is used for resist the earthing and flow of current in
the system.
4. Chipping Hammer: - It is used for removing the waste material and
flux coating from the welded job.

5. Wire Brush: - It is used for cleaning the surface of job before welding
and also used for cleaning the scales from welded surface.

6. C-Clamp: - It is used for holding the job properly.

7. Scriber: - It is used for marking the jobs according to the drawings.

8. Scale: - It is a main and general measuring tool to measure open

dimensions.

9. File: - It is used for chipping the material from the job.

10. Tong: - It is used for holding the materials or hot jobs which can not
be hold without it after welding.

11. Gloves: - It is a safety tool to protect hands while welding is under

process.

12. Goggles: - During welding, a large amount of heat is generated and

it may harmful for eyes so to protect the eyes from these heat goggles
are used during welding.

Experiment No. 2

OBJECT:
To prepare a butt joint by arc welding.

MATERIAL USED:
M.S.Plate (75 X 45 X 5mm. - 2 Nos.)

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Welding transformer, wire brush, chipping hammer, electrodes,
electrode holder, face shield, apron.etc.

PROCEDURE:
1. Place work piece on welding table in proper position after
preparation of it.

2. Hold the welding holder with electrode and then switch on the
welding transformer and start welding on properly hold job.

3. Set proper current and polarity prepare welding

4. Then start the welding very carefully

PRECAUTIONS:
1. Do not weld without welding shield and apron.
2. The work piece and place of work should be dry and oil free to
avoid any type of accident.

Experiment No. 3
OBJECT:
To prepare a lap joint by using arc welding.

MATERIAL USED:
M.S.Plate (75 X 45 X 5mm. - 2 Nos.)

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

Welding transformer, wire brush, chipping hammer, electrodes and
electrode holder etc.

OPERATIONS:
Place the work piece on the welding table in proper position after
the edge preparation. Set proper current and polarity to prepare for
welding. Hold the welding electrode holder with a M.S. electrode and start
welding very carefully on well clamped job pieces to get lap joint. To get
proper welding we should tag weld the job.

Precautions:
1. Do not weld without face shield and apron to avoid eye problem.

2. Always take proper safety measure to successive welding.
