2. Brief Description of the Course

The course is designed to offer a practical and realistic approach to study of human resource
management. While the course is essentially pragmatic, it is balanced throughout by current
human resource management concepts. Special consideration has been given to highlight the
applied or practical side of management rather than theories alone. To help students develop
the knowledge and skills needed in the core areas of human resource management practices
while also tackling application to specific business contexts.

4. Objectives of This Course


By the end of this course, it is expected that the students will be able to demonstrate

a. An advanced understanding of the techniques, principles and theories underpinning the


functions of HRM in organizations,
b. A comprehensive knowing of analytical techniques in the key HRM practices, such as
methods of recruitment and selection, use of assessment instruments, methods for
performance management, and reward/compensation models, and
c. A set of core skills in HRM practice, including application of specific instruments and
techniques of psychological testing, analyzing jobs and designing job descriptions,
designing performance appraisal systems, and measuring HRM outcomes.

3. Misc. Instructions:

 Class room Behavior(On Campus Students Only)

During class all cell phones and tablets must be turned off or set to “silent.” If you are on-
call for emergencies, please let me know at the beginning of the class. To encourage
adherence to class rules and to foster class participation, “instructor evaluation” points
(up to a maximum reduction of 100 points) are given and are a factor in the grade for the
course. In short, student must adhere by these rules

o No personal comments on each other during class

o Share knowledge

o Misbehavior will not be tolerated

 Project Instructions
Final project will be assigned to the class and the format and guidelines will be informed
later

 Assignments
The participant is responsible for all information presented in class (unless told otherwise)
and all information in the reading assignments, whether or not covered by the instructor.
In case of absence it is the participant’s responsibility to get class notes, handouts, and/or
directions from a classmate. Retakes will only be taken on providing with medical
evidence on medical leave or as per instructors discretion.

 Quiz Policy

Both surprise and announced quizzes can be taken by the resource person.
 Final and Midterm Papers (General Guidelines)

A Participant found cheating on any exam/ assignment/ project will receive no credit (i.e.
no grade) for that exam/ assignment/ project.

Students are encouraged to visit my office during counseling hours for clarifying any
confusions or resolving any problems pertaining to the subject matter. They are also
encouraged to contact the resource person via email for any confusions or
ambiguities. In case of any confusion, ambiguity, conflict, or clarification, either meet
me in person or immediately email me.
