Pre-lesson
1. Show pictures about Ancient Egypt to introduce the topic and elicit what pupils may know.

Lesson delivery
2. Show the pictures again and tell pupils that they are about the past. Put the pictures on the board.
3. Read or play the text that you have prepared and get pupils to guess which pictures are mentioned in the
ACTIVITIES text.
4. Introduce the vocabulary at the top of the page and ask pupils to work in pairs to complete the quiz.
5. Discuss the answers with pupils. You can check the answers at the end of the Student’s Book (page 118).

Post-lesson
6. Review learning by asking pupils to tell each other what they learned from the quiz. Focus on what pupils
remember, rather than on accurate use of language.

Pre-lesson
1. Choose a pre-lesson task from the list which reviews/reintroduces the theme of ancient history.

2. Write some new words from the previous lesson on the board, including some verbs. Ask pupils to identify
two or three they don’t remember well. Have them check the meaning in the dictionary in pairs.
ACTIVITIES 3. Do an activity where pupils talk about ancient cultures in and around Malaysia, sharing what they know.
. Using the verbs in Simple Past Tense, have pupils work in pairs to say sentences about ancient cultures in
and around Malaysia.
5. Choose a few pairs to present their discussions.

3. Follow instructions for Grammar Box in the Teacher’s Book. Draw attention to punctuations (use of

comma, full stop and apostrophe) and word order in writing questions in past tense.
4. Prepare a set of questions in past tense without punctuations. Get pupils to punctuate correctly.
5. Then, follow instructions for Activity 3 in the Teacher’s Book.

Pre-lesson
1. Introduce the title of the poem.
2. Recite the poem to the pupils.
3. Pupils recite the poem together with expression. Stress on the correct pronunciation, intonation and stress
points.
4. Display the poem on the board. Highlight the use of rhyming and alliteration.
Rhyming words: tree/see, win/in
Alliteration: tapping and tree

Lesson delivery
= Divide the pupils into groups of five.
2. Hand out envelopes containing a picture puzzle to each group (either puzzle 1 or puzzle 2, or both to make
it more challenging) .
ACTIVITIES 3. Ask the pupils to put the puzzle together and paste the complete puzzle on a piece of construction paper.
(The pupils can be given a time frame and the activity can be turned into a competition)
4. Pupils describe the picture formed and talk about the characteristics of the woodpecker with the help of
questions posed by the teacher.
e.g. What is the name of this bird? What does it eat?

Post-lesson

5. Give pupils a picture (Worksheet 1).


6. Ask pupils to cut out the pictures in Part B and paste them in Part A to create the scene depicted in the
‘Woodpecker’ poem.
7. Pupils copy the poem creatively in Part A.
8. Display all the poems in the room. Pupils can do a gallery walk
