ACCOUNTABILITY MATRIX

Position: All Workers


This document explains your Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Responsibilities, Authorities
Purpose: and Accountabilities in your role.

Responsibility
Specific requirements assigned to personnel for the fulfilment of a task (what is expected of you in
your role)
Authority
Definitions: The delegation of official power to carry out tasks with and through others to fulfil assigned
responsibilities (defines what decisions and actions you can take)
Accountability
The active measurement of a person’s fulfilment or otherwise of an assigned responsibility (how
you will be measured against your responsibilities)

RESPONSIBILITIES
(These responsibilities will apply so far as is reasonably practicable and not beyond the control of the individual.)

The following responsibilities are applicable to all workers in ISS.

1. Take reasonable care of yourself and others in the workplace.

2. Work in a way that does not compromise your own Health and Safety and that of others as well as the
environment.

3. Follow ISS Business Management System Policies, Procedures, Work Instructions or equivalent, Programs and
HSE Legislation, as appropriate. In addition, adhere to all Client requirements as specified within the contract.

4. Do not bypass or misuse systems or equipment provided for any purpose.

5. Report unsafe conditions or acts which come to your attention and address where possible. Notify your
supervisor of actual or potential HSE risks in your work area.

6. Notify your supervisor and the CARE Hotline within 24 hours of incidents or injury. Seek medical attention if
necessary and where required participate in an injury management plan making all efforts to return to work as
soon as possible in line with medical advice.
For all Resources contracts the following applies:
Notify you supervisor immediately of all incidents and injuries. Your supervisor will arrange notification to the
Client and Site Management within 15 minutes. The ISS CARE Hotline shall be contacted within 120 minutes (2
hours). Your supervisor will arrange medical attention if necessary and in consultation with Injury Assist and
where required will direct you to participate in an injury management plan making all efforts for you to return to
work as soon as possible in line with medical advice.

7. Maintain and use equipment and chemicals appropriately and only use if trained and authorised.

8. Follow the ISS Safety Rules and signage and participate in training as identified.

9. Co-operate with management, Health and Safety representatives and other people as necessary to enable
compliance with any requirement under HSE legislation.

ACCOUNTABILITY MATRIX
LEVEL OF AUTHORITY
All workers are authorised to:
• Stop any activity where there is imminent risk of harm to self or others and to the environment.
• Instruct others to stop a task considered to present a risk to health and safety and the environment.
• Raise and/or discuss Health, Safety and Environment matters with supervisors or safety representatives.
• Notify a direct report and follow up on any Health, Safety and Environment matter outside of one’s ability or
capacity to control.
• Escalate Health, Safety and Environment matters to an appropriate level.

ACCOUNTABILITY
ISS utilises a number of accountability processes to assess performance relating to the implementation of
management system responsibilities. These processes apply to all personnel and are performance based.
The key processes may include:
• Supervisory arrangements (in accordance with organisational and site management structures);
• System review and verification activities
• Performance appraisals (Talent Box, Half and Full-time Conversations)
