MELC: Describe the parts of different kinds of plants

A. Science Concept- The main parts of plant are roots, stem, and leaves. Some
plants have flowers and fruits. Different parts of the plants have different
function.

1. Motivation

Observe the plants around. Do you see many different kinds of


plants? In what place do you find plants and their function?

Show the picture of a plant then ask it parts


2. Activity

Let the pupils label the parts of a plant. Can a plant grow without
two or more of its parts?

3. Discussion/ Analysis

PARTS of the PLANTS

1. Roots- found under the soil. They hold the plant to the soil. They
get and other nutrients from the soil that the plants need. It helps in
preventing soil erosion by keeping the soil together.

2. Stems- look like tubes. They carry the water, minerals and food
taken by the roots to the other parts of the plants. They also give support
to the plant.

3. Leaves- called food factory of the plant. They are continuation of


the stem. They usually green.
4. Flowers- flowers of plant come in different colors. They are
sometimes given nameafter their colors. They also have different shapes.

5. Seeds- it is a part of the flower, which develops into a new


plants. It comes in different shapes and colors. A seed is covered by a seed
coat.

6. Fruits-Contain seeds which become new plant

The main parts of the plants are roots, stem, and leaves. Some
plants have flower and fruits different parts of plants have different functions

Answer the following question

1. What are the different parts of the plants?

2. What are their functions?

IV. Evaluation: Match column A with column B.
