QUESTION 1 : WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE PEOPLE STATED ABOVE

i. Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Shah Bin Syed Nor Al-bukhary

Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Bin Syed Nor Al-Bukhari is a person who never knew the
meaning of failure and he always learned from the mistakes he made. He is also very
cautious in business especially with regard to buying and acquiring interests in companies
and projects. He seemed to think of the people, especially the Bumiputera before making
any important business decisions. He has a great personality that everone shoul emulate.

ii. Oprah Winfrey

She is a millionaire, producer, and host of world-renowned TV shows. Her


accomplishments have been countless, including being the first black woman to have her
own talk show on national TV. Oprah is also the first black woman to be awarded an
award at a prestigious event such as the Golden Globe and the Academy Award for her
acting talents. Her countless talents and her ability to bring the show to life have been
honored as one of the number one hosts in the world today.

iii. Datuk Nicol Ann David

Datuk Nicol Ann David is a female Malaysian professional squash player, currently
ranked 6th in the world. She was born on August 26, 1983.She has a record of 51
consecutive victories from March 2006 to April 2007. Her squash career started early at
age 8. At the age of 8, she was selected to represent Penang in the 1992 Milo-Dunlop
National Junior Intermediate Championship. She was given the title of Bakti Degree in
conjunction with His Majesty's birthday, Mizan Zainal Abidin. Nicol was also honored to
bring the Olympic torch to Malaysia in preparation for the Athens Olympics in 2004 and
was also named the UNDP's Goodwill Ambassador of Malaysia.
iv. Bill Gates

Full name is William Henry Gates III, he was born on October 28 1955. He is an
American business magnate, software developer, investor and philanthropist. He is best
known as the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation. During his career of Microsoft, Gates
held the position of chairman, chief executive officer (CEO), president and chief software
architect, while also being the largest individual shareholder until May 2014. He is one of
the best-known entrepreneurs and pioneers of the microcomputer revolution of the 1970s
and 1980s. He started computer programming since he was 13 years old. He then founded
the iconic software company with his colleague Paul Allen in 1975. At that point he
decided to drop out of his studies at Harvard University and start focusing on Microsoft.
Between 1978 to 1981, Microsoft was growing rapidly. The company’s employees grew
from 25 to 128. The company’s revenue began to increase from USD 4 million to USD
16 million at that time.

v. Tan Sri Dr. Anthony Francis Fernandes

Tan Sri Dr. Anthony Francis Fernandes was born 30 April 1964 is a Malaysian


entrepreneur. He is the founder of Tune Air Sdn. Bhd., who introduced the first budget
no-frills airline, AirAsia, to Malaysians with the tagline "Now everyone can fly". He
managed to turn AirAsia, a failing government-linked commercial airline, into a highly
successful budget airline public-listed company. He has since founded the Tune Group of
companies. He is also the majority shareholder of Queens Park Rangers Football Club.
He became known as he revived Air Asia from retractable airline to a brilliant public
company. He also played a key role in lobbying the Prime Minister of Malaysia Tun Dr
Mahathir Mohamad. In mid 2003, he presented and proposed the idea of entering into an
Open Sky agreement with neighboring countries which is Thailand, Indonesia and
Singapore.
vi. Mark Zuckerberg
Full name is Mark Elliot Zuckerberg and was born on May 14, 1984 is an
American internet entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is known for co-founding and
serves as its chairman, chief executive officer, and controlling shareholder. He also co-
founded and is a board member of the solar sail spacecraft development
project Breakthrough Starshot. He was born in White Plains, New York, he
attended Harvard University, where he launched the Facebook social networking
service from his dormitory room on February 4, 2004, with college roommates Eduardo
Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. Originally launched
to select college campuses, the site expanded rapidly and eventually beyond colleges,
reaching one billion users by 2012. He took the company public in May 2012 with
majority shares. His net worth is estimated to be nearly $54 billion as of March 2020. In
2007, at age 23, he became the world's youngest self-made billionaire. As of 2019, he is
the only person under 50 in the Forbes ten richest people list, and the only one under 40
in the Top 20 Billionaires list.

i. Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Shah Bin Syed Nor Al-bukhary

 Being the richest Bumiputera in Malaysia with 167 billion assets, his name is well
known both locally and abroad.
 He was awarded medals and honorary ddegrees including ‘Panglima Setia
Mahkota’ (PSM) by DYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Dipertuan Agong who
carries the title Tan Sri and Dato Setia Mahkota Kedah (DSDK) by KDYMM
Sultan Kedah carrying the Dato.
 Yayasan Al-Bukhari which is founded by him, contributed RM1 million to the
Langkawi Project.
 He founded a private university, Albukhary International University (AIU) in
Alor Setar, Kedah in 2010.
 He set up and managed the RM70 million Islamic Art Museum in Kuala Lumpur
as well as carrying out many charities, especially around Kedah and Perak.

ii. Oprah Winfrey

 The 100 most influential people in the world in 2006.


 The richest and influential black woman in the world.
 Producing the world’s most watched show “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, publishes
two popular magazines which are “The Oprah Magazine and O At Home”, she
has a show on XM Satellite radio and develops other wide ranging projects.

iii. Datuk Nicol Ann David


 Ranked number 1 squash in the world for 108 months from 2006 – 2015
 The first Asian woman to rank first in the world in women’s squash sports.
 Having won the British Open titles in 2005, 2006 and 2008, as well as the World
Open titles in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 and 2010, Nicol has won professional titles
at the age of 16 (2000).
 Holds the 7th annual WSA Best Player Award from 2005-2012.

iv. Bill Gates

 He has been a regular contributor to Forbes magazine the “400 Rich People in the
United States” from 1993 to 2006 and ranked number 1 on the world’s richest list
from 1995 to 2007.
 In addition to Microsoft, he also invests in other companies. He opened Corbis, a
digital image company in 1989. In 2004, he became a director at Berkshire
Hathaway, an investment company led by his friend Warren Buffett.
 Has the most expensive home in the world which is USD 125 million.
 In 2000, he established the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a charitable
foundation with his wife.

v. Tan Sri Dr. Anthony Francis Fernandes

 Commander of the Order of Loyalty to the Crown of Malaysia on 2011


 "Malaysian CEO of the Year 2003" in December 2003; so far awarded to only
nine other recipients in the country, by American Express and Business Times.
The award was an initiative to recognise entrepreneurial and managerial expertise
and performance among leaders of Malaysian corporations.

vi. Mark Zuckerberg

 Founder of facebook and have more than 250 million of facebook user.
 He was crowned the youngest rich man which is total wealth in 2018 is USD 72.3
billion.
 A list of the 400 richest people in the world, he took 14th place.
