Fire products overview
• Fire dampers FDMA, FDMB, FDMC, FDMD, CFDM, prepared FDMS
Fire ventilation and Smoke exctraction dampers, they
belong to „passive fire protection“ in buildings
MGM Grand Hotel – Las Vegas
The fire was caused by an electrical ground fault inside a wall socket.
Due to faulty smoke dampers within the ventilation duct network,
the toxic fumes circulated throughout the hotel's air circulation system,
accelerating the spread of the poisonous gases.
75 people died from smoke inhalation and carbon monoxide poisoning (many of them
in their sleep), four from smoke inhalation alone, three from burns and smoke inhalation,
only one person died from burns alone.

Collectives night club - Bucharest

Firework ignited the club's flammable polyurethane acoustic foam, and the fire spread rapidly.
27 people died from burns and smoke inhalation.
Most of the victims were poisoned by toxins released from the burning foam.
Romanian government had resigned and since then Passive Fire Protection regulations
have been improved.
Romanian authorities follows and requires strictly the EN in fire passive and active
fire protection in buildings.

Lakhani House
The Lakanal House fire occurred in a tower block on 3 July 2009 in Camberwell,
London. Six people were killed, and at least twenty injured, when a high-rise fire
developed and spread through a number of flats in the twelve-storey building.
The inquest concluded that years of botched renovations had removed
fire-stopping material between flats and communal corridors, allowing
a blaze to spread, and that the problem was not picked up in safety inspections
carried out by Southwark council.

Grenfell Tower fire

The Grenfell Tower fire occurred on 14 June 2017 at the 24-storey, 67 m.
It caused at least 80 deaths and over 70 injuries.
The fire started in a fridge-freezer on the fourth floor.
The growth of the fire is believed to have been accelerated by the building's
exterior cladding. No „exit-way“ with efficient smoke extraction system
have been used.

Fire dampers – EU regulations/ „CE marking“

EU regulations

Ø New Construction Products Regulation (CPR) are effective from 1.7. 2013
Ø MANDÍK fire dampers have carried the CE marking from 29.8. 2012 in compliance
with EN 15650.
Ø The CE marking ensures that MANDÍK fire dampers and AHUs can be used for all
approved applications across the EU.
Ø On 1 July 2013, the European Construction Products Regulation (305/2011) has
replaced the Construction Products Directive (89/106/EEC).

Ø The Construction Products Regulation, or CPR, has become immediately effective

in all member states of the European Union.

Installation, transport of fire dampers
Fire damper
• must be installed independently to the air ductwork – no connective load is allowed
• the opening and the sealing is according installation instructions – see TPM or IM (attached in
plastic bag as hard copy or QR code on label)
• for revisions use the pre-installed inspection door, opening for micro-camera or opening on
the duct
• handling and transportation of fire damper is recommended in „close“ position
Note: FDMA fire dampers has additional steel holders of blade, which have to be removed before
installation!!!
• actuator can be exceed to temperature max. 50 degr. Celsius and always in shadow place (do
not leave it on the sunshine).
