Dear CHS Choir Students and Families,

I hope that this email finds you well amidst this crazy time. I hope you are all continuing to stay
healthy and safe. The current situation presents a new challenge to all of us. Hang in there, we
will get through it!

As some of you may know, MSVMA has decided to cancel all events for the rest of the
2019-2020 academic year. A disappointing, but understandable decision. MSVMA is currently
exploring virtual options and I will be in touch about this.

We are going to be moving forward with the current repertoire and I may be adding some
additional music when we return. Students, I strongly encourage you to make our choir routine
part of your daily routine at home, whether that be working on improving your music theory
and/or individually practice your music.

Some things to do with your current music:

- Finishing up writing in the solfege for your vocal part
- Writing in the translation if a piece is in a foreign language (we’ve read and talked about
the English text, now it’s time we write it in our music!)
- Use the rehearsal tracks on Google Classroom to help you practice your individual part.

Strategies you can take to practice your music:

- Speak the text in rhythm without pitch. If a foreign language piece, speak the language in
rhythm before adding pitch.
- Sing your line with the rehearsal track, then try parts of it a cappella to help improve your
ear training.
- Sing your line with the ‘balanced voices’ track.
- Sing your line with the accompaniment track, as needed.
- Work through your part under tempo first before speeding it up, particularly sections that
are more difficult rhythmically and/or note-wise.

This individual practice and work is also extremely beneficial to those who are thinking about
curricular choir placements for next year. Use the resources that are provided for you and I am
here for additional support as well.

UNIFORMS: with the possibility of an extended closure after April 6th, we will need to think
about uniform and black folder returns. Stay tuned for more information about this.
