Centralized vacuum systems create and maintain vacuum in a system by means of information that comes from an
electronic control unit by means of an absolute pressure sensor installed on the tank.
Each system has a START parameter and a STOP parameter. The software installed in the PLC controls operation
of the vacuum pump(s) automatically depending on the type of system and guarantees even wear and tear of
pumps (for systems with more than one pump).
Programming and management of MENU parameters are protected by three password levels. Thanks to this
precaution, staff members can work on functions that fall within their area of qualification.
• Password level 0 (Operator)
• Password level 1 (Maintenance)
• Password level 2 (Factory)

3 – UNIT SETUP
3.1 - PUMP CAPACITY
Setting range: from 50 to 50,000 litres/minute (5 l/min. steps).
Default setting: 1000 l/min (to be modified depending on reference unit).

3.2 - TANK CAPACITY

Setting range: from 50 to 99,000 litres (step 10 litres).
Default setting: 1000 l (to be modified depending on reference unit).

3.3 - PUMP WORKING HOURS

Selecting this parameter the pumps of the unit and their hours of work are displayed:
Pompa n°1 = xxxx h
Pompa n°2 = xxxx h
Pompa n°3 = xxxx h
This parameter allows to enter the work hours of the pumps of the vacuum unit, when the PLC is installed or
replaced.

3.4 – SAFETY TIME

Setting range: from 2 to 300 sec. (5 sec. steps).
Default setting: 10 sec.
This parameter sets the time that must pass between turning the single pump off and turning it on again.

3.5 – POWER DOWN TIME

Setting range: from 0 to 3600 (5 sec. steps).
Default setting: 0 sec.
If this parameter is set choosing a value different from 0 second, when the unit is stopped by means of the 0 (OFF)
button, or timer or remote START/STOP, it allows the pumps to remain active till the set time is up and the display
shows OFF falshing to countdown the OFF time.
During this time countdown, any restarting commands cannot be accepted.
When time countdown ends, the message OFF will stop flashing and the centralised vacuum system goes off.
NOTE: while the turning off phase the emergency button remains active, so it is possible to stop the unit
pressing it.

3.6 – EMERGENCY PUMP TIME [this is only active on vacuum systems Duplex and Triplex]
Permissible setting: YES / NO.
Default setting: NO.
If setting is NO: pumps will work in accordance to the ON / OFF parameters that have been set.
If setting is YES: Setting range from 1 to 60 min. (default setting 5 min.). The vacuum system works as follow:
In case the air entering the system prevents the pump to reach the STOP pressure value, the reserve pump (the
one with less working hours) starts working after that the set time (counted from the turning on of the pump) has
elapsed. When the second pump starts working , the countdown of the set time begins again and if at the deadline
the pressure has not reached the STOP pressure value yet, the third pumps starts working.
In this way it is possible to equilibrate the working hours of the pumps.

3.7 – STARTS PER HOUR

Permissible setting: YES / NO.
Default setting: YES.
If this parameter is selected, , it allows the management and monitoring of the PLC software with reference to the
numbers of the startups per hour of each single pump installed on the vacuum unit.
If setting is NO: the starts per hour are not counted by the PLC, but only visualized in “MIS” menu (Measurement)
of the main display visualization.
If setting is YES: setting range 6 ÷ 20 starts/hour (default value 12). The 1 hour timer starts working from the very
first START (I – ON) of the vacuum unit, in this way the numbers of starts of each pump are counted and PLC
activates the pump with less working hours. In case the pumps have reached the set limit of starts/stops, when the
system activates them, the visualization of P1, P2, P3 flashes on the diplay, RL4 is de-energized (see chapter 9 –
Alarms) and the event is recorded in the alarm history.
When the hour is up, memorization resets to zero and a new one starts.

3.8 – STARTER PRIORITY

If this parameter is selected, the following items appear in the PLC display:
PUMP NR.: possible settings 1 ÷ 3 (default setting: 1)
DELAY: possible settings 5 ÷ 240 sec. (default setting: 5 seconds)
The first item (pump nr.) establishes which pump starts working first each day.
The second item (Delay) establishes the time after which the second and third pump start working.
So this procedure avoids electrical input peaks during the starting of the unit.

3.9 – PUMPS WORKING TIME BALANCE [this is only active on vacuum systems Duplex and Triplex]
Permissible setting: YES / NO.
Default setting: NO.
This parameter allows the PLC software to manage the work of each pump in order to balance the working hours.

3.10 - RESTART
Permissible setting: MANUAL / AUTOMATIC.
Default setting: MANUAL.
If setting is MANUAL: if a power failure occurs and the switchboard goes off, when power is resumed, the PLC
puts itself in OFF condition and the "No Power" alarm message appears. The pumps of the vacuum system are off.
If setting is AUTOMATIC: if a power failure occurs and the switchboard goes off, when power is resumed, the
vacuum system starts automatically depending on the pressure of the system.

DANGER: considering the risk relating to use of this operation, read the "Instructions for use"
paragraph of the use and maintenance manual with particular care!

3.11 – EMERGENCY PUMP [this is only active on vacuum systems Duplex and Triplex]
Permissible setting: YES / NO.
Default setting: NO.
If setting is YES: setting range from 1 to 3 (default setting: 1). This parameter allows the selection of the pump,
which is NOT used during the normal functioning of the unit, but only in case a working pump fails or a pump is
momentarily stopped for maintenance.
NOTE: during the first start of the day of the unit the reserve pump is activated for a sigle cycle in order to
verify its correct functioning.

3.12 – SECOND LEVEL

Permissible setting: YES / NO.
Default setting: NO.
If setting is YES: this parameter permits to manage the set values for 2° level START and STOP of the vacuum
unit (see 4.6 and 4.7).
NOTE: the parameter “Second Level” is only controlled by the activated “Timer” function (parametr 7).

3.13 – STOP DELAY

Setting range: from 0 to 60 min.
Default setting: 0 sec.
Thanks to this set parameter the PLC makes the “Turn Off” command active when the set STOP value is reached
and activates the delay, which is performed , if the control algorithm allows the turning off.

3.14 – START DELAY

Setting range: from 0 to 60 min.
Default setting: 0 min.
Thanks to this set parameter the PLC makes the “Turn On” command active when the set START value is reached
and activates the delay, which is performed, if the control algorithm allows the turning on.

3.15 – RELAY STATUS

This parameter controls relay alarms (see 9 – Alarms)
Pressing F3 (ENTER) the parameter lights up and relay RL4, RL5 and RL6 and their status are displayed.
Pressing F1 or F2 ( / ) the relay to check is selected and confirming with F3 the relay changes status for 5
seconds, after this time the initial menu will appear.

Manual functioning) visualizing the alarm on the display and recording it in the alarm memory.

3.17 – MANUAL OPERATION

Permissible setting: YES / NO.
Default setting: NO.
If setting is NO: The PLC works in “Automatic” mode controlling the functioning of the vacuum unit by means of
set parameters START (4.2) and STOP (4.2).
If setting is YES: The PLC works in “Manual” mode. Starting the unit by pressing button I (ON) and/or by the
opening of ID2 (remote START/STOP) or by the clock signal ( see parameter 7 – Timer in ON mode).
NOTE: in this mode pressure is not checked by the transducer, as a consequence the pump (or pumps)
works continuously and STOP and START settings do not appear in the display to signal the “Manual”
mode of the pump/s.

3.18 – ENABLING SENSORS (only if sensor kit is installed, signalling the efficiency of the exhaust filter, oil
temperature and level – available upon demand)
Permissible setting: YES / NO.
Default setting: NO.
If setting is NO: the sensor kit is not fitted to the pump/s and the PLC will not be displaying the following
parameters:
• Temperature parameter and all temperature controls (parameter 5 - Temperature);
• In the main visualization of Measurement menu (MIS) is not active the visialization of the oil temperature of the
pump/s;
• Temperature alarm parameter (STx) (Parameter 9 - Alarms);
• Oil level alarm parameter (LOx) (Parameter 9 - Alarms);

8 – MAINTENANCE

8.1 – Pump OFF

Permissible setting: YES / NO.
Default setting: NO.
Selecting this parameter all the unit pumps are visualized in the PLC display showing all the saved settings (ON and
OFF).
If setting is ON: The pump in ON mode is active and it is involved in the work cycle of the unit.
If setting in OFF: The pump in OFF mode is not active and, as a consequence, it is not involved in the work cycle
of the unit.

8.2 – Time setup

This parameter allows the management of the counters signalling the kinds and intervals of maintenance of pump/s
of the unit.
Selecting this parameter all the pumps of the unit are visualized and the following items are displayed for each
pump:
• Oil check (M1) – [Oil level check]
Setting range: 100 ÷ 3.000 h.
Default setting: 100 h.
• Oil and oil filter (M2) – [Change of oil and oil filter]
Setting range: 100 ÷ 9.900 h.
Default setting: 500 h.
• Inlet and exhaust filter (M3) – [Change of inlet and exhaust filter]
Setting range: 100 ÷ 9.900 h.
Default setting: 1000 h.

If the new setting is lower than the countdown underway, the latter is reset.
The countdown refers to the hours of work of each pump (hours of work are counted down); when the countdown
reaches 0, the relative maintenance alarm is given and the countdown is continued in negative.
Hours are memorised every 15 minutes. If a power failure occurs during the countdown, the 15-minute lapse of time
will not be considered.

With the maintenace message on the display the yellow signal of the optional alarm visualization kit turns on and
RL5 relay contact is closed. (see section 9 – Alarms and vacuum unit maintenance manual).
NOTE: cancel the displayed alarms, once maintenance is carried out. After cancellation of the alarms the
calculation starts again to signal the next maintenance alarm.

9 - ALARMS
The access to this menu section (password level 0 – Operator) allows the visualization of the alarms with relative
codes, meaning, progressive number, cause, date and time of the event.
The memory may contain till 100 alarms and message nr. 101 cancels the first alarm and so on.
If the memory is empty, the message “EMPTY MEMORY” appears.
When an alarm is obtained, in the low right part of the display the symbol of “Alarm Presence” (triangle) appears
and the red Led (Alarm Presence) turns on, RL6 relay on NC is closed and button F4 alternatively changes meaning
from Measurement to Alarm (ALL). Selecting F4 (when on ALL) it is possible to visualize the generated alarm.
