3. InfoScale Licensing Metering

When Veritas Technologies, the benchmark in Software Defined Storage solutions, updated the Storage
Foundation Suite to the InfoScale Family, we adjusted our licensing options to simplify purchasing and
deployment without sacrificing flexibility, selection options, and most importantly meeting your company’s
compliance policies.
Licensing storage and availability solutions doesn’t have to be overwhelming. When it comes to InfoScale
licensing we are now offering an easy to remember the 2 X 2 option: two licensing meters and two model
types.

3.1. License Meters

For the licensing meters, you can choose to go with per-core licensing, typically considered the
industry standard, where you pay based on the number of cores in your machines.
The other option is to purchase server-tier licenses available for UNIX only. Server-tier licenses are
designed to make it easier to manage bulk purchases by classifying servers into specific Tiers (Tiers A
– N). Tiering is determined based on server and processor capabilities (i.e.: computing power,
performance, clock speed, capacity, etc.).
3.2. License Models
For the licensing models, you can purchase perpetual licenses allowing you to use the licensed
solution indefinitely. In parallel, you can purchase suitable maintenance options for industry leading
support throughout the product’s lifecycle.

2

You can also opt for the subscription model which comes included with maintenance and offers
different monthly terms.

4. Meter Definitions
4.1. Metering by “Core” for Linux, Windows, or UNIX
• Per “Core” licensing is required for Linux and Windows, and recommended for UNIX
• One license is required for each “Core” where an InfoScale product is deployed and running,
regardless of server models and processor architecture.
• A” Core” is defined as a functional unit on a processor that reads, interprets, and executes computer
instructions, including instructions from the licensed software.
• A “Core” refers to the processor or execution core contained in the same integrated circuit within a
computer’s central processing unit, whether such” Cores” are virtual or physical.
• A multi---core processor is a single computing component with two or more independent “Cores".
• Only “Cores” that are in use need to be licensed. “Cores” disabled at the kernel level do not require
licenses.
• “Cores” are counted based actual cores in the machines and not for any additional threads based on
hyperthreading, or other multi-threaded per core technology.
4.2. Metering by Server for UNIX
• One license is required per server
• Hardware server SKUs are tiered by server type classifications (Tiers A-N) graduating higher based on
the size and performance of the Unix system.
• Available for UNIX only
• If at any time a customer wishes to transfer from per server to per core metering, this option is
available, contact your Veritas Sales Contact.
4.3. Determining the Server License Tier to Select the Veritas SKU
Manufacturer servers are assigned a tier classification A-N which correspond to unique Veritas SKUs
at different price points. The Veritas Services and Operations Readiness Tools (SORT) offers license
calculators for the InfoScale/Storage Foundation family. Use the Server Tier tab to enter and
identify your server by tier, example A. If you have a virtual server environment or a server with
multiple processor cores, per core licensing may be a better choice.

4.4. Licensing Per Instance with InfoScale 7.4.1

Prior to the release of InfoScale 7.4.1, a customer could license multiple products such as Storage
Foundation High Availability, and InfoScale Storage on the same instance. With the release of
InfoScale 7.4.1, one license is allowed per instance. It is to the customer’s benefit to license InfoScale
Enterprise to fully license the instance, instead of licensing Storage Foundation High Availability and
InfoScale Storage keys on a given instance.
Also note that InfoScale 7.2 is the last release for VxDMP for VMware. 7.3 Release Notes state
Veritas will no longer support VxDMP for VMware in next release.

5. Services Operations Readiness Tool (SORT)

The Services Operations Readiness Tool is a resource for platform support status and license calculations.
Below is an example of a license calculation to determine the server tier for an Oracle Sun SPARC server. Listed
are the options to choose to license by core (6 cores, recommended), or by Server Tier (B).

6. Licensing for Virtual Server Environments

Customers running InfoScale products in virtual server environments are required to acquire licenses only for
the Cores that are running the products, regardless of the virtualization platform. The process for counting
cores for virtual machine (VM) deployments is as follows:
1. Determine the number of virtual” Cores” assigned to all guests by the guest OS.
2. Determine the number of physical “Cores” available to the VMs.

4
Veritas InfoScale™ Licensing Guide

3. Compare the total number of virtual “Cores” assigned to VMs and the total number of physical “Cores”
available to the VMs.
4. The number of “Cores” to license is the minimum between the number of virtual “Cores” assigned to all VM
instances and the number of physical “Cores” available to them.
5. In a public cloud environment where the InfoScale products are deployed using a Bring Your Own
6. License (BYOL) model, different CPU ratios may apply.
7. Public cloud vCPUs equivalent core ratios for InfoScale are calculated as follows: Core Ratio 2:1 (example, 8
AWS vCPU = 4 InfoScale Cores)

7. License Keys
With Veritas InfoScale Operations Manager, customers can choose either permanent license keys or
keyless licensing to install and use InfoScale products. The exception is for DMP for VMware, for which
permanent license keys are required. Installation without a license does not eliminate the need to obtain a
license to ensure entitlement and compliance.
Within 60 days of choosing this option, customers must install a valid license key corresponding to the
license level entitled, or continue with keyless licensing by managing the systems with Veritas InfoScale
Operations Manager to comply with the End User License Agreement

7.1. Permanent License Key

License keys can be obtained through either of the following options:
1. Download from Veritas Licensing Portal. Within 60 days of choosing this option, a customer must
install a valid license key corresponding to the license level entitled to comply with the End User
License Agreement.
2. Receipt of a License Key Certificate. Upon purchasing an InfoScale product, a customer will receive a
License Key certificate. The certificate specifies the product keys and the number of product licenses
purchased.
7.2. Keyless License
Below is a diagram describing the options for permanent and keyless licensing for InfoScale:

5
Veritas InfoScale™ Licensing Guide

After the first sixty days, customers may continue to use the licensed InfoScale software without a Standard
License Key only if they obtain, install and use Veritas InfoScale Operations Manager (“VOM”) on a server to
track keyless licensing. InfoScale licenses includes a license to VOM. A copy of VOM may also be obtained at
http://www.symantec.com/business/veritas-operations-manager. For more information, visit the Veritas
Licensing Support website.
7.3. Evaluation Key
Evaluation keys are created for all InfoScale functionalities, except for DMP for VMware. Customers
are encouraged to use the keyless mode for evaluation of the InfoScale products for up to 60 days

8. License Terms and Support

8.1. EULA & PUR
A copy of the latest InfoScale End User License Agreement (EULA) and InfoScale Product Usage
Rights (PUR) are available on the company’s website, please refer to the Product License Agreement
page, select the Business Products tab, and scroll down to the InfoScale section.
https://www.veritas.com/company/legal/license-agreements

9. InfoScale Renewals
9.1. Renewal Entitlement
Customers who have current maintenance/support contracts for InfoScale licenses under perpetual
or subscription terms are eligible to purchase a maintenance or subscription renewal. Maintenance
and subscription renewals are available prior to End of Service Life (EOSL) of the product.

6
Veritas InfoScale™ Licensing Guide

Customers who do not have current maintenance/support have the option to reinstate
maintenance/support and pay requisite fees to become eligible to upgrade to the current version,
providing the product has not passed EOSL. For more information regarding Veritas EOL policies
refer to the Support and Maintenance Services section.
The InfoScale Entitlement Calculator in the SORT web site is available to calculate conversions licenses
based on current systems to be entitled at renewal. This calculation helps enable compliance analysis
for the server meter and per Core pricing meter of the Veritas InfoScale product family.

10. Migrating from Veritas Storage Foundation High Availability (HA)

10.1. License Upgrades and Transfer
Customers who had purchased Veritas Storage Foundation HA perpetual licenses and have current
maintenance/support for those licenses are eligible for upgrade to the InfoScale products as
illustrated below. Customers who do not have current maintenance/support again have the option
to reinstate maintenance/support and pay requisite fees to become eligible to upgrade to the
current version.

11. Cross--Grades
Cross---grade is defined as a license transfer of a lower featured product to a more full---featured product that
includes the previous product’s functionality. For example, a cross-grade from InfoScale Foundation to
InfoScale Storage would entitle the customer to both InfoScale Foundation and InfoScale Storage, providing
a fuller-more featured product. Four cross---grades SKUs for the InfoScale products are available for cross-
grade purchase:

12.1. End of Life Policies

The following diagram describes the general EOL Policy for all Veritas enterprise software products.
Any specific product or product family differences are noted in the specific EOL Policy subsection for
that product or product family. EOL phases and dates for specific product versions will be posted on
the Veritas EOL website. You can also find InfoScale product and version numbers and EOSS and
EOSL dates through the SORT tool under Knowledge Base.

12.2. EOL Term Definitions

• EOSS (End of Standard Support) – 5 years Standard Support (Engineering and Technical) for any
Release
• EOSL (End of Support Life) – customized date based on Product lifecycle (supported till underlying
OS/platform vendor Standard EOL)
• ETS (Extended Term Support) – past EOSS customer can choose to subscribe for limited Technical
support by paying nominal fees.
12.3. Extended Technical Support
Extended Technical Support is offered to support software at an additional cost purchased after End
of Software Service Sale (EOSS) and before End of Service Life (EOSL). ETS is sold in addition to a
current Essential Support contract as a supplemental service program to support software that is
no longer under development.
Customers must have active Essential Support maintenance contracts to purchase ETS. Customers
may renew this maintenance and purchase ETS at the same time. Maintenance contracts and ETS
SKUs are only valid on a release version until the EOSL of that software version.

9
Veritas InfoScale™ Licensing Guide

When InfoScale software is upgraded to the latest supported release, customers may then continue
the term of their maintenance contract without ETS. By doing so customers can then contract
Standard Support terms. If a customer does not upgrade to the latest software version, continued
maintenance requires contracted support and ETS, expiring on the EOSL date.
