I. Objectives:
1. Content Standard: The learners demonstrate an understanding of…
 The unit, mole that quantitatively measures the number of very small particles of matter.

2. Performance standard: The learners shall be able to:

 Analyze the percentage composition of different brands of two food products and
decide on the products’ appropriate percentage composition.
3. Learning Competencies/Objectives:
 Use the mole concept to express mass of substances. (S9MT-IIi19)
 Determine the percentage composition of a compound given its chemical formula and
vice versa. (S9MT-IIj20)
4. Specific objectives: The learners will be able to…
 Examine the relationship between the number of materials and their masses.
 Complete the table comparing the mass and number of materials.
II. Subject Matter
1. Topic : Total Count vs. Mass
2. Reference : Teacher’s Guide
3. Materials: Visual aid, Marker, etc.
III. Learning Task
1. Review
 Review to the students the following to the students.
o Mole
o Atomic mass
o Molar mass
2. Motivation
As a motivation to the learners, present a riddle and have them answer it.
“Which is much heavier, 1 kilo of nails or 1 kilo of cotton?”
3. Lesson Proper
3.1 Activity
Provide the learners a platform balance. Instruct them to perform Activity 2 on pages 149-
150. Have them answer the guide questions afterwards.
3.2 Analysis
 Do different materials with the same number have the same masses?
3.3 Abstraction
 Even though there is the same number of materials, different types of materials have
different masses.
Substance Chemical Formula Molar Mass Number of
(g/mol) Particle

Oxygen gas O2 32.00 6.02 x 1023

Sucrose C12H22O11 342.34 6.02 x 1023

Hydrogen peroxide H2O2 34.02 6.02 x 1023

Elemental calcium Ca 40.08 6.02 x 1023

3.4 Application Have the students fill the table.
