RATIONALE
Beekeeping is a business opportunity with social, economic, and ecological benefits that requires
minimal time, labor, and resources.
Bees help increase crop yield and biodiversity of wild plants through pollination. In order to
protect and conserve these species, it is necessary to learn and understand their biology and
management for pollination and production of valuable hive products as source of additional
income.
Beekeeping could hardly be learned through reading materials. It requires hands-on training to
appreciate all steps in bee propagationIn this course, UPLB developed technologies for
pollination and production of honey, pollen and propolis will be taught to the participants. The
lecture portion is complemented with hands-on.
OBJECTIVES
The general objective of this training course is to provide the necessary skills in beekeeping to be
able to raise bees either for crop pollination or honey production.
At the end of this course, the participant should be able to:
learn how to process bee products
learn how to split the colonies
