ABSTRACT
After the long procedure of brainstorming the researchers achieve what they desire
proposing an automated system for canteen transaction.
The purpose of this innovation is to fasten the way of transaction, preventing the
losing of money that is encountered the by almost every student, and this will help them
to avoid eating outside the school. The swipe card also help the school to gain more
enrollee and to improve their canteen from manual to automate. The project was
appraise by twenty five IT experts using ISO9126 or software quality model. The study
shows that the manual and the proposed automated system has a significant
difference. That states that the proposed automated system is effective and feasible as
the result of the survey.

Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
The students of Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College is in chaos by buying food because they
do not have enough time to fall in line and to buy a food because of the number of students
the school canteen is in a disordered situation. Cafeteria is commonly known as a type of a
food service located inside the institution, in which there is no staff that will take the costumer's
order and serve it right away to the costumer's tale. Unlike in a restaurant, the costumers may
sit and the waiter/waitress will take the costumers order and serve. Cafeteria is a traditional
food service that is popular to the students and the common thing that you will see at every
school. The student must fall in line properly and buy food orderly.
Nowadays, Swipe card such as debit card, magnetic swipe card any kind of swipe
card is quite famous among people. They are used most everywhere and usually work as
keys to enter, doors paying a payment instead of a cash and usually used as attendance
monitoring. Therefore, the researchers are proposing an innovation, swiping card to upgrade
the system of school canteen in Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College.
With the help of swiping the card in buying a foods at the canteen will be fasten the
transaction. It may also help the students to buy food more easily and it also prevent an event
like losing money because there is no money involved.
This study will help to make the students easier for them to buy foods at the canteen
in organized way and they will be healthier because of this card the parents do not have to
give money to their children, and avoid buying street foods from their extra money
The swiping card will give once a student enrolled in Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College and
will pay for 1000 pesos and the swiping card will automatically have a 500 pts. This swiping
card will last until they graduate or leave Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College. Swiping card will load
at the cashier it depends on the students or parents of the students how much they will load
it. The canteen will also provide a machine same on the mall using a credit card. Also in this

machine the students will see their balance in their swiping card. In this proposal it will help
the students to have an easily transaction in canteen.
This study aims to develop the transaction and to provide automated system in
payment procedure for the school canteen.
1. To propose an electronic system and accounting system for the school canteen.
The Researchers made this study to tackle and discuss about implementing a swiping
card to the school canteen of Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College. The chosen respondents are from
the annex and main building of Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College.
The Researchers will also tackle about the payment of the swiping card that will be pay
at the cashier. The students will go to the cashier and load their swiping card. The cashier will
also have a loading machine where they will type the amount of load and swipe the card, the
load will automatically transfer to the card of the students. The school will provide a swiping
card for every students who will be enrolled in Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College that will be given
and paid on enrollment. The swiping card cost 1000 pesos and the swiping card that will be
given will have a 500 points of load. The swiping card will last until they leave and graduated
in the school. The swiping card have no expiration date it will become hassle to the students.
The swiping card will give it back to the school to reuse it for another enrollees. Once the
swiping card is lost or damaged they need to report and pay for the new swiping card. The
Researchers will also tackle about the transaction between student and the canteen. The
students will buy food in the canteen and the total amount of purchase will be type by the
canteen’s personnel at the swipe machine. The students will swipe the card and it will be
automatically deduct the points in the card. The swipe machine will have a total receipt that
will be keep by the canteen’s personnel. The Researchers will also tackle about the
transaction between the cashier and the canteen’s personnel. The cashier will handle the
money. The one who is in charge in the canteen will collect the receipt from the swipe machine
and will total how much product they sell for a week, they will give the receipts of total to the
cashier and the cashier will give the profit to the canteen’s personnel.
The study conducted for them to have a faster transaction and automated canteen. The
study help the school to gain more enrollees, to encourage other students to enroll here at
Dr. Carlos S. Lanting College and improve the payment procedure at the canteen. The
Student, School, Entrepreneur, Parents, Cashier and Researcher.
Student, as the main respondents of the study they will have a new technology
invented way of payment, they will have much more time to eat and the security of their
money.
School, they will gain or encourage more enrollees, because of their child new way of
payment at the canteen and more funds will come because of this.
Cashier, it will lessen their job it comes with much faster transaction.
Entrepreneurs, they can use this study to wisely used and make a swiping card to their
future buildings.

Parents, will get a benefit to this study too because, their child will no longer buy junk
foods outside the school and their allowance are secure so they don’t have to worry about the
money of their children.
Researcher, who are also future entrepreneurs that aims to build their own school or
company, they can get some information of the easiest way of paying in the most effective
way.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
This chapter are consist of different studies of Foreign Literature, Foreign Studies,
Local Literature and Local studies that are mainly about swiping card. This chapter designed
to identify and enumerate several researches related to the present study. This includes a
number of citations from magazines, journals, newspapers, research papers and other
reliable literature sources.
ABS-CBN CORPORATION (2018) LRT officals said that if the result of today's tests
is positive, the new ticketing system will be made available in other stations, "one at a time."
The machines can dispense single journey and stored value cards. The stored value cards
can be loaded from P11 to up to P10,000 and can last up to 4 years.
Once implemented, the magnetic stripe tickets currently in use will be replaced by
contactless, tap-and-go smart cards that come with a microchip much like Hong Kong's
Octopus cards and Singapore's EZ link. - report from Francis Faulve, ABS-CBN News
Timezone Swiping Card to see the balance and insufficient load of the card at the
Philippines
In Philippines there is a time zone, a place that people can play basically. It is an
arcade were generated by modern technology. A common arcade that people usually saw is
they use token but in Time zone Philippines, they use a modern way to play with the help of
swiping card. The card has a points that the commoners can get in counter. The points
represent as a token. You will load it in machine were you have to insert a real money then
insert your card that how you load it. If you win a ticket you can exchange it at the cashier with
the same value as many as your ticket.
According to Jennifer Link Jones, since spring 2002, Students, faculty and staff at Georgia
State University (GSU) Library have been required to swipe their campus ID cards at turnstiles
in order to enter the library building. The swipe-card system is primarily a security measure,
however, with each swipe of a card’s magnetic stripe, data associated with the respective
visitor are sent to a database. The GSU Library’s swipe-card data sat unused until a fortuitous
conversation between the Assessment & Staff Development Librarian and the Director of the
Student Recreation (Rec) Center. The Rec Center Director explained that he decided to
capitalize on the data being collected automatically, so he partnered with Advanced Campus
Services (ACS), GSU’s high performance. ACS built a tool to allow the Rec Center to access
and query against the data. Coincidentally and at the same time, the Dean of Libraries was
having a similar conversation with the Director of ACS. The Director of ACS encouraged the
Dean of Libraries to consider setting up a similar system with the help of ACS. Campus
Collaboration After a few preliminary conversations with the library, ACS was ready to start
the process of building out an analytics system similar to the Rec Center’s system. Meetings
between the library and ACS began in January 2009 with a demonstration of the Rec Center’s
analytics system. After a few additional meetings, ACS presented a project charter to the
library for approval and signatures, and the project was underway. The system was completed
in July 2009, and the ACS project leader conducted training for seven library employees in
August. Currently, only the Assessment & Staff Development Librarian uses the system
regularly. The nature of the system is that unless one uses it regularly, it is somewhat difficult
to run reports and interpret results. Since the Assessment & Staff Development Librarian is
the most frequent user, the result has been that the Assessment & Staff Development
Librarian provides data on demand for other library employees. Visit/Visitor Data in the
Literature Gate count, door count, and exit gate data are mentioned extensively in the
professional literature, and the references typically relate to studies of library usage trends.
Martell reported on changes in numbers of various types of library transactions between 1995
-2004. He noted that while gate counts would be valuable in helping determine library usage
patterns, libraries do not consistently collect and/or make these data publicly available.
Researchers from the University of Technology, Sydney Library, described implementing a
swipe-card system to restrict building access, with the future plan of gathering visitor data
from the system. In the absence of literature describing tools for analysis of and practical
uses for 5 swipe-card data, particularly in informing library decisions, this paper suggests
options that other libraries can consider adopting.
Cummins (2003) mentioned on his thesis titled “A University Wide Smart Card
System” that this tertiary educational institutions utilize card technologies and student
identification and the support of other related services within institutions. The researchers has
developed a technology card known as Smart Card, where an existing plastic card has an
embedded integrated circuit and is capable of expanding the range of applications and
services capable within an institutions
According to Rogers (2004, p.1), ‘‘HCI is now effectively a boundless domain’’. This suggests
that HCI is a vast field that involves people, computer and interaction, as it can be used in
different disciplines of work. Nowadays we are using computers in every field of life to perform
different types of tasks, as computers become more realizable and capable of performing
more activities. The HCI study is based on ergonomics, which concerns the relationship
between machines and people - how machines are helping people perform different activities.
This is also true for smart cards, which also concerns the relationship between machines and
people - how smartcards are helping the people perform different activities in different
environments for different purposes. We know that design means to intentionally change the
world and ourselves. According to Nelson et al. (2012), design creates unintentional outcomes
along with the intentional ones. This suggests that HCI design concepts can help designing a
smart card in a better way, allowing that smart card to be more valuable to the society. Design
is always moving and representing the unknown and unknowable things. Benyon (2010,
p.489) says that ‘‘HCI and interaction design in ubicomp environments is concerned with many
computing devices interacting with many others’’. We are now entering a time where we
develop networks of interacting systems that support various domain-oriented artifacts. This
is also the reason why we need to think about the image of new HCI. In the past, people would
go to a market to buy everything, but with the advancement of technology the people’s
demands are changed and they are using smart cards from home or even from mobile
platforms instead of going to market; this facility makes peoples life so easy and time
consumable. As a result designers also are combining the concept of HCI with the information
spaces to fulfill the requirements of the people with help of ubiquitous computing (e.g. iPads,
Smartphones). According to Benyon (2001, p.428) “Traditional HCI issues are those
concerned with how people can know what a particular device can do and cannot do and with
devices ‘knowing’ what other devices can process or display’’. This means that the HCI has
entirely changed the concept of designers - where previously they developed new technology,
they are now embedding different computer technologies in different objects to help the users
with the rise of HCIempowered embedded technology. Technology is changing day by day
and we are merging different technologies with artifacts to get a better result. Sauveron (2009,
p.70) describes about ‘‘new technologies have changed the business models and pushed the
smart cards towards new domains and to a world where they will integrate lots of new
functionalities’’. This suggests that technology how evolve and become essential in our lives.
As for example, magnetic strip-based driver’s license in Sweden has evolved to provide better
security of a person’s and driving details. However, a consequence of such technology
integration is that the evolution of technology, addresses all the needs of the society and often
with the widespread use of technology trails of personal information are left behind
unknowingly. According to Reid (2007, p.53) ‘‘RFID smart cards enable companies and State
enterprises to automatically identify, track and capture information electronically. The
commercial and social applications of RFID smart cards are limitless’’. This suggests that
Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) enabled smart cards results in even more
capable smart cards. It can automatically detect and capture information electronically. It can
create strong relationships between consumer and retailer, citizen and the State, employer
and employee, and also doctor and patient, to name a few. Therefore, a RFID enabled smart
card has huge importance for the society. Domingo-Ferrer (1997, p.65) talks about that ‘‘future
smart cards will no longer be dedicated devices implementing a single issuer-dependent
application’’. However we can expect that the future smart cards will no longer have a
dedicated device. Rather it could contain its own operating system installed in the chip that
can be used on multiple devices. In this way, an individual bearing a single card will be able
to interact with several service providers (operating on the data stored in the card). In order
for the card to be able to cope with several applications, it has been suggested that the card
should contain the holder’s data and that the code of functions to be performed on data should
be imported by the card operating system from an outside server.
Debit Card
Zaidi and Ali (2006) states that this research aims to review the Debit Card market
place culminating addressing the statement “Risk and Scope of New Debit Check Cards in
Competitive Market of Pakistan” Habib Bank was the first bank in Pakistan to launch Visa
Debit through 1 LINK in August last year. Growth of Visa debit check card is also discussed
that there are nearly 250,000 Visa Debit check cards in Pakistan and the card numbers have
been growing at over 100 percent per annum.
Ramsbrock et al., (2006) states that magnetic swipe card systems are widely used
by many different organizations to provide both convenience and security. The Researchers
also mentioned that they trust the systems that have hundred of thousands of dollar
transactions and equipment. The goal of the research paper is to investigate just how easy it
is to circumvent such a system and based on the research, to develop realistic and affordable
recommendations for making the system more secure.
A smart card is any standard-sized plastic card with embedded integrated circuits. In
brief, we can say ‘‘a smart card is a card incorporating one or more integrated circuits within
its thickness. Smart cards are also often called chip cards or integrated circuit (IC) cards’’
(Hendry, 2007, p.17). In its simplest form the definition of smart card according to Walters
(1992) ‘‘Smart card is a standard-sized plastic card that contains an integrated circuit or chip
which gives the card the ability to store and/or process data’’ (Mitra et al., 2004). The
application of smart cards has become more common and visible in our society due to its
easy access and usage. Its introduction into different areas of our life has made us quite
dependent on it as well. Smart cards have revolutionized the types of physical interaction
between different agents such as a producer and a customer, citizen and state. An example
of such a smart card is the bank card provided upon opening a bank account in Sweden. This
card allows us to avoid the long queue in the cash register (kassa) and make the payment
through the self-service terminals in shops by simply inserting the card in the card reader and
scanning all the desired products’ bar codes. We do not even need to rely on the banking
hours to do any important transaction. The social acceptance and the constant needs act as
the motivating factors behind the evolution of technology, which is visible in the above
example. The need for avoiding a long queue to pay in a shopping mall has led to the
introduction of smart cards and customer terminals. There are ranges of different motivational
factors that influence how technology evolves, such as making an application more secure,
making a service more efficient, or making a device more user friendly. With such a constant
evolution of technology, it has become an increasingly integral part of people’s daily lives
Smart cards
Parke, J, Rigbye, J and Parke, A (2008)Utilise a chip which stores data directly on the
card itself in a more secure manner than magnetic stripe technology. They are more durable
and have a larger storage capacity. However, these facilities come at a greater cost of
production

ERP canteen module, every sale will be supported by a bill. This will ensure that cash is never
mishandled in the canteen by cashiers and other staff. The new canteen module will help the
management to track down the sales for given month. This will further help in the process of
comparison of accounting figures. Another thing that often gets misused at college canteens
is the inventory. Thanks to the ERP system, management of colleges will be able to track the
procurement and use of stock for given period for comparing with sales. In the past, there
were no ways to know the actual profits and losses for college canteens, which was a
monumental concern. With the new canteen management system, the entire process of
canteen handling will get automated, and that will ensure that the business mindedness of the
organization is never diluted or compromised with. Software companies offer directional help
in setting up the canteen module.
According to Leon, Kaye (January 26, 2012) in the past decade ,south Korea has
increased in prominence on the global stage with its hosting of huge international events like
the world cup in 2002 and the G2O Summit 2010. The cosmopolitan flair of its capital, Seoul,
is on display in neighborhoods like wealthy Akpujong and artsy Samcheong-dong. Living in
the 13th wealthiest nation on earth, South Koreans spend and consume far more than they
did a generation ago. According to the South Korean government food waste disposal cost
the country about 18trn won those (GBP 10bn) annually. A 20% reduction in food waste could
reduce those 5bn won (GBP 2.8bn) and present the emission of 4m tons of greenhouse
gasses. Therefore SK Telecom designed new bins have been fitted with the radio frequency
identification (RFID) technology that will charge residents and business owners for the amount
of food waste they create. The system promises to work quickly. First, users will tap a card
with an RFID tag (which can also double as a public transport fare card) on a reader. The
bin’s disposal bin lid immediately opens, allowing the user throw their food waste in for
weighing. The lid then snaps shut, and the food waste is immediately calculated with a free
changed to the user’s credit card.

According to Douglass B. & Patch S. (2012) When students arrive at Ocean city High
School next year, they'll be required to swiping student ID Card to create an electronic
attendance record that will follow them throughout the school day in each period during the
day teachers will be able to check actual attendance against the record of which students
should be in class. The new technology will make cutting class a much more difficult
proposition and make taking attendance a much easier task. The new system will replace one
already in use this year. The Ocean City Board of Education heard a presentation on
Wednesday night on swipe k12 school solutions technology that will be used. Students will
swipe cards at two stations at the front entrance to the high school. As they do, a teacher
monitoring the system will be able to see a photograph from the student ID and check to make
sure that it matches the student swiping the card. Students who forget their IDs will be able
to visit two other stations in the attendance office to receive temporary IDs or even time
stamped late passes. The swiping stations will create a database of attendance records, and
a web-based application will allow teachers and school administrators to see records and run
reports. Ocean City High School will be the only school in the immediate region using such a
system. Other schools in New Jersey have similar technology but use fingerprint Scanners
instead of swipe card.
According to Bodin, W. (2012) The system and method allowing a consumer to make
a purchase within a retail area and to remove that purchased item from the retail area without
causing an alarm by an electronic article surveillance (EAS) system. The system first identifies
the consumer and the product to be purchased, then validates the selected item. If the
selected product is a valid selection, then the system posts the transaction to the consumer's
account, optionally including a convenience charge, and commands the EAS to allow removal
of the purchased item from the secured retail area, thereby allowing the consumer to make
the purchase and avoid waiting for the availability of a human cashier or salesperson.

According to Tomasz, K. & Damian, K (2015). The vision system for shape and color
recognition of dishes (plates, bowls, mugs), which can be used to automate the process of
customer service in a self-service canteen is described. In consists of three basic
components: object segmentation using so-called background model subtraction, shape
recognition using geometric invariant moments and SVM classifier, as well as color
recognition using a Gaussian model. In addition, recognition in case of close or abut objects
using a distance transform like approach is presented. The solution was evaluated on a
dedicated test stand with controlled LED lightning. A 98% accuracy was obtained on over 100
test images, which indicates that the solution could be used in business practice.

information you have gathered in the interview.
9. When the questionnaire has been fill out with the needed information, start to tally all the
common answers to make some raw data for the statistician to examine and compute for
the desired mean in order to provide support to the claims of the researcher.
To answer the questions raised in this study, the following statistical tools will be
employed:
• Likert Scale
• Thematic Analysis
Since this research used descriptive method to interpret the data that have been
gathered during the interview and the survey questionnaire two types of treatment can be
done to analyze the given information of the respondents. It is by likert type scale and by
thematic analysis. In likert type scale, the respondents should rank a table from 5 to 1 in which
5 is the strongest and 1 is the weakest. When it comes to thematic analysis, it is considered
as one of the most popular statistical tools used in analysing qualitative data’s by using codes
and themes to create a more structured answers based on the transcript of the in depth
interview and other related question which are not classified as a qualitative data in the study.
To determine the acceptability of the study based on the evaluation of the IT experts, the
weighted mean will use. Below are the descriptions of weighted arithmetic mean.

Where:
µ = Weighted arithmetic
f = Frequency
n = Sample Class
Weighted arithmetic mean is a kind of average. Instead of each data point contributing
equally to the final mean, some data points contribute more “weight” than others. If all the
weights are equal, then weighted mean equals the arithmetic mean (the regular “average”
you’re used to.)
With the help of the weighted arithmetic mean as the formula to analyze the
quantitative data, the researchers will be able to identify what factors are visible when it comes
to how well the performance of the Proposed automated system for canteen transaction based
on the perception of the selected IT experts.

Based on the findings of the study, the following conclusions were drawn:
1. The manual system somehow not exact when it comes to the summary of the
price. since this automated system for the canteen could help to give the
detailed summary of the price that will be ordered in the cafeteria it will make
vendor because of several students. Since the automated system can help to
3. The student will become healthy because they can’t buy street foods for
snack. they can only buy foods in canteen which is healthy and safe to eat.
4. The future enrollees at school will increase because, of the attractive system
