REFLECTION: KUNG FU PANDA III

1. SUMMARY
Master Oogway was trying to find peace in the spirit realm when his old friend and adversary
named General Kai, started a fight. Oogway lost, and his chi was taken by Kai. But before that,
Oogway warned Kai that the dragon warrior, Po, will defeat him. Soon enough, Kai traveled back
to the mortal realm using all the chi that he obtained, and have a single objective in mind, find the
dragon warrior. Meanwhile, Master Shifu had renounced his role as a teacher and passed it to Po.
Eventually, Po complied, but later he regretted it after what happened to the Furious Five on his
first day of teaching. Po felt down and depressed. Shifu advised him to do what he cannot do so
he’ll be more than who he is, and on the process, he must do it on his own unique way, not like
being Shifu. On other hand, Kai reached the mortal realm and used his jade zombies to find Po.
While Po, was about to meet his long-lost biological father, Li Shan. They quickly spend time with
each other, much to the jealousy of Mr. Ping, Po’s adoptive father. On the verge of their bonding
together, the jade zombies attacked the valley. Thus, the furious five and Po went to the rescue.
They had defeated the jade zombies and known their enemy’s name, Kai. Although, Kai figured
out their location. Eventually, Po and the others went searching on the scrolls: who Kai is. They
stumbled upon a jade scroll who was written personally by Oogway. And there, they found out
that Kai was Oogway brother-in-arms in the war and his closest friend, and Oogway had to banish
Kai in the spirit realm because the latter was consumed with the power of chi. Po did eventually
go to the secret village of pandas, to train how to master chi under Li, because only the true master
of chi will defeat Kai.
Kai arrived at the valley. He fought Master Shifu, and defeated all of them including the
remaining of the Furious Five except Tigress. Tigress escaped and managed to find the secret
village of pandas to warn Po of the coming disaster. Then, Po asked Li to teach him how to master
chi. That’s when he found out his father doesn’t know it. Li lied to Po, to protect his once-lost son.
Po got mad and assumed his anger to a vigorous training. Because he had to face Kai no matter
what. Soon enough he obtained the help of his fellow pandas as his own army to fight alongside
Kai. All the Pandas from young and old had trained fighting. With Po as their teacher, they had
turned themselves to the best they can be. Afterwards, Kai arrived and launched his jade warriors.
The pandas managed to defend the village and distract Kai. So, Po was able to do his best move.
But he failed, it didn’t work for spirit warriors like Kai. Po had no remaining plan on mind. Though
he realized that since his best move requires a mortal. He sacrificed himself to relieve he and Kai
on the spirit realm, and there they continued their fighting. Po still didn’t stand a chance. His chi
was about to be taken until all the people on the village helped Po by giving him each of their chi.
Po fought back and eventually won the match by posing exceptional strength. As a result, all the
chi who were taken by Kai has returned to their realm, except Po. Although, Po met Oogway on
spirit realm and made him realize that he can go back to the mortal realm. When Po had returned,
he became officially a master of chi. All the people on the village were very happy.

2. How did the protagonist solve the problems in the movie?

Po wasn’t so smart as the protagonist. He wasn’t also so powerful, a deus ex machina. Or else,
it will not become a movie. But for me, he had 2 ways on solving his conflict with Kai. First, he
must become more than he can. Basically, he must do things he wasn’t used to. On the movie, that
was teaching. Though at first, no one expects you to do just fine. You’ll fail, but then you’ll
eventually catch up, which he did. He successfully taught his fellow pandas the same ideals that
Master Shifu taught him. With that, he created himself an army to fight Kai. Second, he must know
who he really is. By doing that, you’ll unlock your deepest potential, your own advantage of being
who you are. For Po, that was being a Panda. And a Panda is intrinsically kind, helpful, mindful,
and a natural master of chi. This helped Po defeat Kai. Even at the end, he actually gave his chi to
Kai, but Kai cannot contain its power. Thus, Kai was defeated. Also, a strong self-knowledge will
help you strengthen your ideals. For Po, that was being a dragon warrior. Lastly, he had many
people that he could trust. His dads, Master Shifu, Furious Five, and all the pandas on the village
contributed with the success of Po. It boosted Po’s confidence. Also, you knew he had something
to protect – his Family. That’s the strongest way to solve the problem – with Love.
3. How will you use the lessons unlocked by the panda in your own life?
The Pandas knew how to be the best they can be by not changing their own intrinsic nature. It
was very hard, which why it was term “unlocked” because it wasn’t suppose to be open. It takes a
lot of realization about the self. And honestly, I’m far from achieving that, but I know it’s possible.
It must be because some famous people do it their way to become successful. For instance, Manny
Pacquaio, with his passion of boxing, he turned himself from rags to riches. Bill Gates, with proper
motivation, he achieved the richest man on Earth. Together with Steve Jobs and Martin Luther
King, who envision the impossible, possible. I wish I could do the same stance my own way. But
no, our education system keeps us the same. You’ll never express yourself. That’s why I don’t rely
much on grades. I’ll do what I think will matter most. Just like knowing who you really are, you
bend the rules of society to your likes, not theirs. At this age, I think I’m finished filling up the
expectations of anyone. Now, they all need to do is to accept it or not. Their discretion won’t affect
my self-understanding. But like how Po knew himself, I must visit where I came from and start
looking that everyone is unique, so am I.
