 “You must be rich to collect art” – Building an art collection takes time and does take a bit of money,
but it doesn’t always have to be a lot. You can also lookout for bargains.
 “You need an MA in Art History or Fine Arts” – Art literacy is different to art appreciation. You don’t
have to know every detail of the painting or the painter to enjoy a piece of art.
 “The higher the price, the better the art” – Not all trends deserve to have good money spent on them.
 “My art is just as good as (name) so therefore, I can base my prices on their prices or maybe even
charge as much for my art as they do for them” – If you’re not widely known, or are relatively early in
your career or just starting out, you’re basically unproven. The difference between you and proven
artists is that they’ve already demonstrated their abilities to survive, consistently create quality art,
and succeed and prosper over time.
 “There is good art and bad art” – The only distinction is that there is “art I enjoy” and “art I don’t
enjoy”, it’s all about the observer’s perception.
 “Art is a visual concept” – Art is more a combination of ideas, feelings and meanings expressed with
artistic means.
 “Art depends on the talent and imagination of the artist” – Talent is a myth. Inspiration, practice and
enjoying art process result in producing quality artworks.
