Fifth: Du`
Fifth The most important rite on this day is to say the supplicatory prayer known as Du ` ¡'
Ummi-
Ummi-D¡w£d. This great supplicatory prayer brings about innumerable rewards some of which are
that it grants the requests, relieves from anguishes, and saves from the persecutions of the
wrongdoers.
In the word of Shaykh al-±£s¢, in his book of Mi¥b¡¦ al-Mutahajjid, one who intend to do this rite
is required to observe fasting on the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth days of Rajab. At the
midday of the fifteenth, one should bathe himself. After midday, one should offer the obligatory
²uhr and `A¥r Prayers so excellently that one should do all the parts perfectly. It is advisable to be
in a vacant place so as not to be engaged with anything and not to be addressed by anyone. When
the (obligatory) prayer is accomplished, one should face the kiblah direction and recite S£rah al-
F¡ti¦ah one hundred times, S£rah al-Taw¦¢d one hundred times, and ªyah al-Kurs¢ ten times.
Afterward, S£rahs al-An`¡m (No. 6), al-Isr¡’ (also called Ban¢-Isr¡'¢l; No. 17), al-Kahf (No. 18),
Luqm¡n (No. 31), Y¡s¢n (No. 36), al-¯¡ff¡t (No. 37), al-Zukhruf (No. 43), al-Sh£r¡ (No. 42), al-
Dukh¡n (No. 44), al-Fat¦ (No. 48), al-W¡qi`ah (No. 56), al-Mulk (No. 67), al-Qalam (No. 68), al-
Inshiq¡q (No. 84) and all S£rahs following up to the end of the Holy Qur'¡n should be recited.
After reciting all these S£rahs, one may, still facing the kiblah, say the following supplicatory
prayer:
True are the words of Allah,
the All-great. ¥adaqa all¡hu al`a¨¢mu ‫ﻴﻢ‬‫ﻌﻈ‬ ‫ ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ ﭐﻟ ﱠﻠﻪ‬‫ﻕ‬‫ﺻﺪ‬
‫ﹶ‬
There is no god save Him, alladh¢ l¡ il¡ha ill¡ huwa ‫ﻫﻮ‬ ‫ﻻ‬
‫ ﹺﺇ ﱠ‬‫ﻱ ﻻَ ﹺﺇ ٰﻟﻪ‬‫ﭐﱠﻟﺬ‬
the Ever-living, the Eternal, al¦ayyu alqayy£mu ‫ﻴﻮﻡ‬ ‫ ﭐﹾﻟ ﹶﻘ‬‫ﺤﻲ‬
 ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
The Lord of Majesty and
Honor, dhuljal¡li wal-ikr¡mi ‫ﺍ ﹺﻡ‬‫ﻹ ﹾﻛﺮ‬
ِ ‫ﭐ‬‫ﻝ ﻭ‬
‫ﺠﻼ ﹺ‬
 ‫ﺫﹸﻭ ﭐﹾﻟ‬
the All-beneficent, the All-
merciful, alrra¦m¡nu alrra¦¢mu ‫ﻴﻢ‬‫ﺣ‬‫ ﭐﻟﺮ‬‫ﺣ ٰﻤﻦ‬
 ‫ﭐﻟﺮ‬
the Forbearing, the All-
generous. al¦al¢mu alkar¢mu ‫ﻜﺮﹺﻳﻢ‬
‫ ﭐﹾﻟ ﹶ‬‫ﻴﻢ‬‫ﺤﻠ‬
 ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
There is nothing like Him, alladh¢ laysa kamithlih¢
shay'un
‫ﻲ ٌﺀ‬
 ‫ﺷ‬
‫ﻪ ﹶ‬ ‫ﻠ‬ ‫ﻤ ﹾﺜ‬ ‫ ﹶﻛ‬‫ﻴﺲ‬ ‫ﻱ ﹶﻟ‬‫ﭐﱠﻟﺬ‬
and He is the All-hearing,
the All-knowing, wa huwa alssam¢`u al`al¢mu ‫ﻴﻢ‬‫ﻌﻠ‬ ‫ ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ﻴﻊ‬‫ﺴﻤ‬
 ‫ ﭐﻟ‬‫ﻫﻮ‬ ‫ﻭ‬
the All-seeing, the All-
aware. alba¥¢ru alkhab¢ru ‫ﺨﺒﹺﻴﺮ‬
‫ ﭐﹾﻟ ﹶ‬‫ﻴﺮ‬‫ﺒﺼ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
Allah bears witness that
there is no god but He,
shahida all¡hu annah£ l¡
il¡ha ill¡ huwa
‫ﻫﻮ‬ ‫ﻻ‬
‫ ﹺﺇ ﱠ‬‫ﻻ ﹺﺇ ٰﻟﻪ‬
َ ‫ﱠﻧﻪ‬‫ ﺍ‬‫ ﭐﻟ ﱠﻠﻪ‬‫ﺷ ﹺﻬﺪ‬
‫ﹶ‬
and (so do) the angels and
those possessed of walmal¡'ikatu wa ul£ al`ilmi ‫ﻢ‬
‫ﻌ ﹾﻠ ﹺ‬ ‫ﻭﻟﹸﻮ ﭐﹾﻟ‬ ‫ﺍ‬‫ﻜ ﹸﺔ ﻭ‬
‫ﺋ ﹶ‬‫ﻤﻼ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ﻭ‬
knowledge,
maintaining His creation
with justice. q¡'iman bilqis§i ‫ﻂ‬
 ‫ﺴ‬
 ‫ﻘ‬ ‫ﻤ ﹰﺎ ﹺﺑﭑﹾﻟ‬‫ﻗﹶﺎﺋ‬
There is no god but He, the
Mighty, the Wise.

‫ﻴﻢ‬‫ﺤﻜ‬

conveyed the mission

O Allah, to You belongs

 ‫ ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻬﻢ‬ ‫ﺍﻟ ﱠﻠ‬
to You belongs glory, wa laka almajdu ‫ﺠﺪ‬
 ‫ﻤ‬ ‫ ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs might, wa laka al`izzu ‫ﻌ ﱡﺰ‬ ‫ ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs pride, wa laka alfakhru ‫ﺨﺮ‬
‫ ﭐﹾﻟ ﹶﻔ ﹾ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs supreme
power, wa laka alqahru ‫ﻬﺮ‬ ‫ ﭐﹾﻟ ﹶﻘ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belong bounties, wlaka alnni`matu ‫ﻤ ﹸﺔ‬ ‫ﻌ‬ ‫ ﭐﻟ ﱢﻨ‬‫ﻭﹶﻟﻚ‬
to You belongs greatness, wa laka al`a¨amatu ‫ﻤ ﹸﺔ‬ ‫ﻈ‬

to You belongs reverence, wa laka almah¡batu ‫ﺑ ﹸﺔ‬‫ﺎ‬‫ﻤﻬ‬ ‫ ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs sovereignty, wa laka alssul§¡nu ‫ﺴ ﹾﻠﻄﹶﺎﻥ‬

to You belongs beauty, wa laka albah¡'u ‫ﺎ ُﺀ‬‫ﺒﻬ‬ ‫ ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs benevolence, wa laka al-imtin¡nu ‫ﺘﻨﹶﺎﻥ‬ ‫ﻣ‬ ‫ﻻ‬
 ‫ ﭐ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs glorification, wa laka alttasb¢¦u ‫ﺴﺒﹺﻴﺢ‬
 ‫ ﭐﻟ ﱠﺘ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs holiness, wa laka alttaqd¢su ‫ﻳﺲ‬‫ ﭐﻟ ﱠﺘ ﹾﻘﺪ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs the
confession of Your being the wa laka alttahl¢lu ‫ﻞ‬
‫ﻴ ﹸ‬‫ﻬﻠ‬ ‫ ﭐﻟ ﱠﺘ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
One and Only God,
to You belongs the
confession of Your being the wa laka alttakb¢ru ‫ﻜﺒﹺﻴﺮ‬
‫ ﭐﻟ ﱠﺘ ﹾ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
most Great Lord,
to You belongs that which is
seen, wa laka m¡ yur¡ ٰ‫ﻯ‬‫ﻳﺮ‬ ‫ﺎ‬‫ ﻣ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs that which is
not seen, wa laka m¡ l¡ yur¡ ٰ‫ﻯ‬‫ﻳﺮ‬ َ‫ﺎ ﻻ‬‫ ﻣ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belongs that which is wa laka m¡ fawqa
‫ﺕ‬
 ‫ﺍ‬‫ﺎﻭ‬‫ﺴﻤ‬
 ‫ ﭐﻟ‬‫ﻮﻕ‬ ‫ﺎ ﹶﻓ‬‫ ﻣ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
far above the high heavens, alssam¡w¡ti al`ul¡
ٰ‫ﻌ ﹶﻠﻰ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
to You belongs that which is
deep down under the abyss, wa laka m¡ ta¦ta alththar¡ ٰ‫ﻯ‬‫ﺖ ﭐﻟ ﱠﺜﺮ‬
‫ﺤ ﹶ‬
 ‫ﺎ ﹶﺗ‬‫ ﻣ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belong the worlds
below the heavens, wa laka al-ara¤£na alssufl¡ ٰ‫ﺴ ﹾﻔ ﹶﻠﻰ‬
 ‫ ﭐﻟ‬‫ﺿﹸﻮﻥ‬‫ﻻﺭ‬
 ‫ ﭐ‬‫ﹶﻟﻚ‬‫ﻭ‬
to You belong the end and
the beginning, wa laka al-¡khiratu wal-£l¡ ٰ‫ﻭﹶﻟﻰ‬‫ﭐﻻ‬‫ ﹸﺓ ﻭ‬‫ﺧﺮ‬

and to You is all thanks, all

‫ﻫ ﹺ‬ ‫ﻻ‬

‫ﻴ ﹺ‬‫ﻤﻌ‬ ‫ﻔ ﹺﺮ ﭐﹾﻟ‬ ‫ﺴ ﹶﺘ ﹾﻐ‬
 ‫ﻤ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ﻭ‬
forgiveness and assisting the
ahli §¡`atika
people of obedience to You. ‫ﺘﻚ‬ ‫ﻋ‬ ‫ﻃﹶﺎ‬

blessings to Seraph, all¡humma ¥alli `al¡ isr¡f¢la ‫ﻞ‬
‫ﻴ ﹶ‬‫ﺍﻓ‬‫ﺳﺮ‬

 ‫ﺻﹶﺎ‬‫ﻭ‬
Resurrection Day),
the one waiting for Your

and the one apprehensive
and fearful of You.

‫ﺮ ﹺ‬ ‫ﻌ‬ ‫ﺔ ﭐﹾﻟ‬ ‫ﻤ ﹶﻠ‬ ‫ﺣ‬
 ٰ‫ﻋ ﹶﻠﻰ‬ ‫ﻞ‬
‫ﺻ ﱢ‬
‫ ﹶ‬‫ﻬﻢ‬ ‫ﺍﹶﻟ ﱠﻠ‬
blessings to the pure angels
al`arshi al§§¡hir¢na
who bear Your Throne, ‫ﻫﺮﹺﻳﻦ‬ ‫ﭐﻟﻄﱠﺎ‬
upon the scribes; the noble, wa `al¡ alssafarati alkir¡mi ‫ﺍ ﹺﻡ‬‫ﻜﺮ‬
 ‫ﺓ ﭐﹾﻟ‬ ‫ﺴ ﹶﻔﺮ‬
 ‫ﻋ ﹶﻠﻰٰ ﭐﻟ‬ ‫ﻭ‬

the virtuous, and the

upon Your angels; the
wa `al¡ mal¡'ikatika alkir¡mi

virtuous recorders (of the
alk¡tib¢na
deeds), ‫ﺗﺒﹺﻴﻦ‬‫ﭐﹾﻟﻜﹶﺎ‬
upon the angels of the
gardens of Paradise, wa `al¡ mal¡'ikati aljin¡ni ‫ﻥ‬
 ‫ﺠﻨﹶﺎ‬
‫ﺔ ﭐﹾﻟ ﹺ‬ ‫ﻜ‬
‫ﺋ ﹶ‬‫ﻣﻼ‬ ٰ‫ﻋ ﹶﻠﻰ‬ ‫ﻭ‬
upon the keepers of Hellfire, wa khazanati alnn¢r¡ni ‫ﻥ‬
 ‫ﺍ‬‫ﺔ ﭐﻟ ﱢﻨﻴﺮ‬ ‫ﺧ ﹶﺰﹶﻧ‬
‫ ﹶ‬‫ﻭ‬
and upon the Angel of Death
and his assistants.

 ‫ﺍ‬‫ﻋﻮ‬ ‫ﻻ‬
 ‫ﭐ‬‫ﺕ ﻭ‬
 ‫ﻮ‬ ‫ﻤ‬ ‫ﻚ ﭐﹾﻟ‬
 ‫ﻣ ﹶﻠ‬ ‫ﻭ‬
O Lord of Majesty and
Honor! y¡ dhaljal¡li wal-ikr¡mi ‫ﺍ ﹺﻡ‬‫ﻹ ﹾﻛﺮ‬
ِ ‫ﭐ‬‫ﻝ ﻭ‬
‫ﻼﹺ‬‫ﺠﹶ‬
 ‫ﺎ ﺫﹶﺍ ﭐﹾﻟ‬‫ﻳ‬

the foremost of Your

‫ﺎ ﻗﹶﺎﹺﺑ ﹸ‬‫ ﻳ‬‫ﺋﺪ‬‫ﺎ‬‫ﺎ ﻋ‬‫ﺙ ﻳ‬
‫ﺎ ﹸ‬‫ﻏﻴ‬ ‫ﺎ‬‫ﻳ‬
O He Who has mounted to
the most elevated point, y¡ man `al¡ fasta`l¡ ٰ‫ﻌ ﹶﻠﻰ‬ ‫ﺳ ﹶﺘ‬
 ‫ﻼ ﹶﻓﭑ‬
‫ﻋ ﹶ‬ ‫ﻦ‬
 ‫ﻣ‬ ‫ﺎ‬‫ﻳ‬
He thus occupies the most
exalted site! fak¡na bilman¨ari al-a`l¡ ٰ‫ﻋ ﹶﻠﻰ‬ ‫ﻻ‬
 ‫ﻈ ﹺﺮ ﭐ‬
‫ﻤ ﹾﻨ ﹶ‬ ‫ ﹺﺑﭑﹾﻟ‬‫ﹶﻓﻜﹶﺎﻥ‬
O He Who has approached
so closely that He has
become the nearest of all y¡ man qaruba fadan¡ ‫ﻧﹶﺎ‬‫ ﹶﻓﺪ‬‫ﺏ‬‫ﻦ ﹶﻗﺮ‬
 ‫ﻣ‬ ‫ﺎ‬‫ﻳ‬
things
and, at the same time, He
has been so far that He is in wa ba`uda fana'¡ ٰ‫ﺎﻯ‬‫ ﹶﻓ ﹶﻨ‬‫ﻌﺪ‬ ‫ﺑ‬‫ﻭ‬
the furthest point,
and He has known the secret
and even what is more wa `alima alssirra wa akhf¡ ٰ‫ﺧ ﹶﻔﻰ‬
‫ ﹾ‬‫ﺍ‬‫ ﻭ‬‫ﺴﺮ‬
 ‫ ﭐﻟ‬‫ﻠﻢ‬ ‫ﻋ‬ ‫ﻭ‬
hidden!
O He to Whom all
management is relegated y¡ man ilayhi alttadb¢ru wa
‫ﹶﻟﻪ‬‫ ﻭ‬‫ﺪﺑﹺﻴﺮ‬
 ‫ﻪ ﭐﻟ ﱠﺘ‬ ‫ﻴ‬ ‫ﻦ ﹺﺇﹶﻟ‬
 ‫ﻣ‬ ‫ﺎ‬‫ﻳ‬
and to Whom all measures lah£ almaq¡d¢ru
are referred! ‫ﻳﺮ‬‫ﻤﻘﹶﺎﺩ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
O He for Whom the most
wa y¡ man al`as¢ru `alayhi
‫ﻞ‬
‫ﻬ ﹲ‬ ‫ﺳ‬
 ‫ﻪ‬ ‫ﻴ‬ ‫ﻋ ﹶﻠ‬ ‫ﻴﺮ‬‫ﻌﺴ‬ ‫ﻦ ﭐﹾﻟ‬
‫ﻣ ﹺ‬ ‫ﺎ‬‫ﻳ‬‫ﻭ‬
difficult thing is easy and
sahlun yas¢run
simple! ‫ﻴﺮ‬‫ﻳﺴ‬
O He Who has power to do
whatever He wills!

qad¢run

O He Who sends forth the

O Lord of magnanimity and

sustenance to whomever He

You are verily worthy of all

Have mercy upon my

 ‫ﻭ‬‫ﻱ ﻭ‬‫ﺍﺩ‬‫ﻔﺮ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻧ‬‫ ﹶﻓ ﹾﻘﺮﹺﻱ ﻭ‬‫ﻭ‬
humbleness before You, wa khu¤£`¢ bayna yadayka ‫ﻳﻚ‬‫ﻳﺪ‬ ‫ﻴﻦ‬ ‫ﺑ‬ ‫ﻲ‬‫ﺧﻀﹸﻮﻋ‬

the afraid, the miserable, almushfiqi alb¡'isi ‫ﺲ‬
‫ﺋ ﹺ‬‫ﺎ‬‫ﻖ ﭐﹾﻟﺒ‬
‫ﻔ ﹺ‬ ‫ﺸ‬
‫ﻤ ﹾ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
the modest, the
insignificant, almah¢ni al¦aq¢ri ‫ﻴ ﹺﺮ‬‫ﺤﻘ‬
 ‫ﻦ ﭐﹾﻟ‬
‫ﻤﻬﹺﻴ ﹺ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
the hungry, the poor, alj¡'i`i alfaq¢ri ‫ﻴ ﹺﺮ‬‫ﻊ ﭐﹾﻟ ﹶﻔﻘ‬
‫ﺋ ﹺ‬‫ﺎ‬‫ﭐﹾﻟﺠ‬
the seeker of Your refuge,
the seeker of Your al`¡'idhi almustaj¢ri ‫ﺴ ﹶﺘﺠﹺﻴ ﹺﺮ‬
 ‫ﻤ‬ ‫ﺬ ﭐﹾﻟ‬
 ‫ﺋ‬‫ﺎ‬‫ﭐﹾﻟﻌ‬
protection,
the confessing of his sins, almuqirri bidhanbih¢ ‫ﻪ‬ ‫ﺬﹾﻧ ﹺﺒ‬
‫ ﹺﺑ ﹶ‬‫ﻘﺮ‬ ‫ﻤ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
the implorer for You to
forgive his sin, almustaghfiri minhu ‫ﻣ ﹾﻨﻪ‬ ‫ﻔ ﹺﺮ‬ ‫ﺴ ﹶﺘ ﹾﻐ‬
 ‫ﻤ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
and the humble to his Lord; almustak¢ni lirabbih¢ ‫ﻪ‬ ‫ﺑ‬‫ﻟﺮ‬ ‫ﻦ‬
‫ﻴ ﹺ‬‫ﺴ ﹶﺘﻜ‬
 ‫ﻤ‬ ‫ﭐﹾﻟ‬
I implore You with the
imploration of one whom
has been disappointed by
du`¡'a man aslamat-hu
thiqatuh£
‫ﺛ ﹶﻘ ﹸﺘﻪ‬ ‫ﻤ ﹾﺘﻪ‬ ‫ﺳ ﹶﻠ‬
 ‫ﻦ ﺍ‬
 ‫ﻣ‬ ‫ﺎ َﺀ‬‫ﻋ‬‫ﺩ‬
those whom he trusts,
rejected by his intimate
ones, wa rafa¤at-hu a¦ibbatuh£ ‫ﺒ ﹸﺘﻪ‬ ‫ﺣ‬
 ‫ ﺍ‬‫ﻀ ﹾﺘﻪ‬
‫ ﹶﻓ ﹶ‬‫ﺭ‬‫ﻭ‬
and whose catastrophe has

I implore You the
imploration of one burning, du`¡'a ¦ariqin ¦az¢nin ‫ﻦ‬
‫ﺣﺰﹺﻳ ﹴ‬
 ‫ﻕ‬
‫ﺣ ﹺﺮ ﹴ‬
 ‫ﺎ َﺀ‬‫ﻋ‬‫ﺩ‬
sad,
weak, mortified, ¤a`¢fin mah¢nin ‫ﻦ‬
‫ﻣﻬﹺﻴ ﹴ‬ ‫ﻒ‬
 ‫ﻴ‬‫ﺿﻌ‬
‫ﹶ‬
depressed, wretched, b¡'isin mustak¢nin ‫ﻦ‬
‫ﻴ ﹴ‬‫ﺴ ﹶﺘﻜ‬
 ‫ﻣ‬ ‫ﺲ‬
‫ﺋ ﹴ‬‫ﺎ‬‫ﺑ‬
and resorting to Your
shelter. bika mustaj¢rin ‫ﺴ ﹶﺘﺠﹺﻴ ﹴﺮ‬
 ‫ﻣ‬ ‫ﹺﺑﻚ‬
O Allah, I also beseech You
in the name of Your being all¡humma wa as'aluka
bi'annaka mal¢kun

and Your alleviating

‫ﻴﻒ‬ ‫ﺎ ﹶﺗﺸﹶﺎ ُﺀ ﹶﻛ‬‫ﻟﻤ‬ ‫ﻠﻚ‬ ‫ﺴﻬﹺﻴ‬

‫ﹶﺗ ﹶ‬‫ﻱ ﻭ‬‫ﺎﺩ‬‫ﺘﻬ‬ ‫ﺟ‬
