    sage vishwamitra was given this mantra.The ancient Hindu scriptures describe
    how the sage Vishwamitra was given the Gayatri mantra by the Supreme Being
    as a reward for his many years of deep penance and meditation. This was to be a
    gift for all humanity. According to the Vedas, there are seven realms or spheres
    or planes of existence, each more spiritually advanced than the previous one. It
    is written that through spiritual awareness and development, we can
    progressively move through these realms and ultimately merge with the Supreme
    Being. Many Buddhist teachings have also referred to these seven realms.
    om parabrahma
    BHUR - Bhu Loka (Physical Plane) - This refers to the
    five elements this body is made up of
    BHUVA - Bhuva Loka (Middle Plane) - This refers to
    the power in man which animates the body.
    This is actually the Prana Sakthi
    SVAHA - Swarga Loka (Heaven)
    TAT - - That, this refers to God, or Paramatma.
    SAVITUR - That from which all is born
    VARENYAM Fit to be worshipped
    BHARGO - he Radiance, the Spiritual Effulgence, the
    light that bestows wisdom
    DEVASYA - Divine reality

    DHEEMAHI - We meditate

    DHI YO - Buddhi, intellect

    YO - which

    prachodayat enlighten

    Om bhurbha-vasuvah tatsaviturvarenyam bhargo-devasya dhimahih


    Dhiyo-yonah prachodayat,Deva savitah prasuva
    Satyam tvartena parishinchaami
    Amrutah opatarana masi

    Om apo-jyoti raso-mrutam brahma-bhurbha-vasuvaro


    Om pranaya-swaha
    Om apanaya-svaha,
    Om vyanaya-svaha,
    Om udanaya-svaha,
    Om samanaya-svaha,

    PApoham pApa karmAham pApAtma pApa sambhavaha
    TrAhi mAm kripayA dEva sharaNA gata vatsala
    AnyaTha sharaNam nAsti tvamEva sharaNam mama
    TasmAt kAruNya bhAvena raksha raksha janArdhanaha
    Tva mEva mAta cha pitA tvamEva tva mEva bandhu cha sakhA tvamEva
    Tva mEva vidyA Dravidam tvameva, tva mEva sarvam mama dEva dEva
    You alone are my everything, mother father, friend, helper, protector, knowledge, spiritual
    prosperity. My Lord, you are
    my everything.
    KAyena vAchA manasendri evA bhudyAtma nAvA prikrite swabhAvAth
    KarOmi yadyath sakalam parasmai nArAyaNA yeti samarpayAmi
    Whatever sins I have committed in all my lives
    May all of them be absolved as I circumambulate
    in thy worship
