    Course Description -NECESSARY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPLETE,


    SOCIAL MAN
    Art Appreciation is a three-unit course that develops -PROVIDES MAN WITH A MEASURE OF HIS OWN
    students' ability to appreciate, analyze, and critique -PASSION & DESIRE
    works of art. Through interdisciplinary and multimodal
    -REGULATE MAN’S BEHAVIOUR
    approaches this course equips students with a broad ETYMOLOGY OF ART
    knowledge of the practical, historical, philosophical, and -ART comes from the Aryan root word AR which means
    social relevance of the arts in order to hone students' to put together
    ability to articulate their understanding of the arts. -latin word ARS which means skills/ability
    The course also develops students' competency in -cover those areas of artistic creativity -embraces the
    researching and curating (selecting, organizing, and visual arts, literature, music and dance
    looking after the items in (a collection or exhibition) art -expresses aesthetic ideas by use of skill & imagination
    as well as conceptualizing, mounting, and evaluating art DIVISION OF THE ARTS
    productions. The course aims to develop students' Visual: arts that are primarily seen, occupies space

    EXAMPLES:

    significance. PURPOSES OF THE ARTS
    Define and demonstrate the elements and principles of -Create beauty
    design;
    Explain and evaluate different theories of art;
    Situate Philippine arts in a global context.
    Analyze and appraise works of art based on aesthetic
    value, historical context, tradition, and social relevance.
    COURSE OUTCOMES (CO)
    Mount an art exhibit (concept development production
    and postproduction, marketing, documentation,
    critiquing).
    Create their own works of art and curate their own
    production or exhibit.
    Utilize art for self-expression and for promoting
    advocacies.
    Deepen their sensitivity to self, community, and society.
    Discover and deepen their identity through art with
    respect to their nationality, culture, and religion.
    Develop an appreciation of the local arts.

    INTRODUCTION:
    ART APPRECIATION (ARTA 111)
    HUMANITIES
    Humanities came from the Latin word humanus
    meaning refined, cultured and human.
    -study of the different cultural aspect of man, his
    frailties in life and how it can be improved
    records man’s quest for answers to the fundamental
    questions he asks about himself and about life
    Humanities are expressions of man’s feelings and
    thoughts
    -emphasizes dignity and worthiness of man and
    recognizes creative expressions
    -aimed to shape students subjective energies (feelings,
    attitudes and aspirations)
    Importance of humanities
    -MAN NEEDS AN IMAGE OF HIMSELF
    -UNDERSTANDING OF HIS NATURES
