Abstract
The globalization of Indian economy encourages more and more domestic and
foreign direct investments in India and in turn leads to growth of Industries and
increased urbanization in all environmentally sensitive areas.
Lack of adequate water resources and ever increasing demand of water for various
needs have been matters of huge concern at present. Further, the need to satisfy the
food demands of ever increasing population, the poor quality of water bodies due to
water pollution, ever increasing groundwater overdraft and continuously dwindling
groundwater tables, increased use of chemical fertilizers for bumper crop production
are the major factors contributing to increased stress and environmental degradation
of the wetlands.
All the above factors show that the need of the hour is micro and macro level study
on the various wetland ecosystems to understand the problems and possible
solutions and to disseminate the results so that the sustainability of wetland irrigation
can be better assured.

farmers and the impacts caused by using mine drainage for irrigation and also
explore the possible solutions for remediation and to ensure long term sustenance of
agricultural production.
