Need to Have
200gs black double knitting wool
100gs white double knitting wool
3mm crochet hook
4mm crochet hook
small amount of stuffing
darning needle for sewing up
Need to Know
ch – chain
st - stitch
dc – double crochet
htc – half treble crochet
tc – treble crochet
slst – slip stitch
tc3tog – treble crochet 3 stitches together
yrh – yarn round hook
rnd - round
Need to Do
fasten off.
ch 2, 2 tc in same st, 2 tc in the next 2 sts, 3 tc in the next st * 2 tc in the next 3 sts, 3 tc in the next
st, rep from * to end join with slst in 1st tc. (27 sts) Fasten off
Lightly stuff the claws. They don't all need to be identical, as long as they are roughly even they'll
be perfect.
Using double crochet all the way round attach a stuffing stopper to the open end of each claw. This
can be a little fiddly until you've done a few sts. Before you close the claw totally you might want to
add a little more stuffing. Join with a slst in the 1st dc and fasten off.
Foot
Using two strands of black held together and 4mm hook
Hold a set of three claws so the stuffing stoppers are upper most. Pick a stitch on the outside edge of
one of the claws and join on the wool for the foot.
Ch 2, 1 tc in same st, 1 tc in each st until 1 stitch before the join between two claws.
You're going to treble 3 sts together at this point; the st before the join, the end of the joining dc and
the st after the join. Once the treble 3 together is complete carry on with 1 tc in each st until you
reach the st before the next claw join. Treble 3 sts together as before. Continue in this way all the
way round. Join with a slst in 1st tc.
2nd Round
ch 2, tc in same st, 1 tc in each st until one sts before tr3tog on last row, treble the next 3 sts
together, carry on working 1 tc in each st until one stitch before the next treble and treble the next 3
sts together. Work in this way for the rest of the round, slst in 1st tc to join.
3rd round
repeat 2nd round (43sts)
At this point you may need to fasten off. It depends where you joined the first st for the foot.
Lay the slipper flat and find the middle stitch. Count 6 sts to the right and join wool here. (still
working double strand and 4mm hook) Once again, hopefully the picture below will make things
clearer. The crochet hook on the left marks the middle stitch and the one on the right is 6sts along
and this is where you join the wool for the next row.
Heal shaping
ch 2, tc in same st, 8tc, tc3tog, 6tc, tc3tog, 9tc turn
ch 2 tc in same st, 7tc, tc3tog, 4tc, tc3tog, 8tc turn
ch 2, tc in same st, 6tc, tc3tog, 2tc, tc3tog
making sure seam is on the inside slip stitch back seam together. Fasten off
Ankle
Join wool at back seam, ch 2, tc in same stitch, work 2 tc in each end tc and one tc in each of the sts
across the front of the foot. Join with slst in 1st tc
Roll the ankle down to the top of the first row of treble crochet. You're going to be working an
elongated double crochet over the roll to secure it.
Starting at the back seam insert hook in between two treble crochet posts. Draw a long loop
through, then yrh and draw through, there's now one loop on the hook. Insert hook through next
space between two treble crochets, yrh, draw through, yrh and draw through all loops on hook.
Continue in this manner until round is complete join with a slst and fasten off.
Toe Pad
Using two strands of white held together and 4mm hook
turn ch 2, tc in same st, 1 tc in the next 4 sts, 3 tc in the next st, 1 tc in the next 7 sts, 3 tc in the next
st, 1 tc in the last 4 sts. Fasten off.
Heel Pad
Using two strands of white held together and 4mm hook
ch 2, 2 tc in the same st, 2 tc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 htc in each of the next 3sts, 2 tc in each of
the next 3 sts, 2 htc in each of the next 3 sts, slst into 1st tc to join
ch 2, tc in same st, 2 tc in next st, (1 tc, 2 tc in next st)twice), (1 hdc, 2 hdc in next st)three times), (1
tc, 2 tc in next st)three times), (1 htc, 2 htc in next st)three times), slst into 1st tc to join. Fasten off.
Position the toe pads two rows under the claws and sew in place. The heel pads get sewn in place on
the row before the heel shaping.
Sew in any loose ends and your monster feet are ready to stomp!
