    To fit: child aged 1-4 years; head circumference 51 cm/20 inches.


    Yarn Required: 145 yds of DK weight yarn.

    Notions

    4 mm/US 6 circular needles


    3.25 mm/US 3 needles
    Waste yarn/spare needles for provisional cast on
    Stitch marker

    Gauge 22 sts = 10 cm/ 4" on 4 mm/US 6 needles or size required to meet gauge.

    Abbreviations
    k - knit
    st/s - stitch/es
    Rnd - round
    k2tog - knit 2 sts together - decreases by one st.
    M1 - make a new stitch by picking up the running strand and knitting into the back of it.
    YO - yarn over
    s1 - slip one stitch knitwise

    Body of Hat Rnd 1: [M1, k6, M1, k7] repeat to the end
    of round.
    Provisionally cast on 94 sts using 4 Rnd 2 & 3: knit all stitches.
    mm/US 6 needles. Rnd 4: [M1, k7, M1, k8] repeat to the end
    (See www.knittinghelp.com/videos/cast-on for
    help) of round..
    Join in the round place marker for Rnd 5 & 6: knit all stitches.
    beginning of round and purl one round. Rnd 7: [M1, k8, M1, k9] repeat to the end
    of round.
    Knit every round until work measures Rnd 8 & 9: knit all stitches.
    7.5 cm/3.5 inches. Rnd 10: [M1, k9, M1, k10] repeat to the
    Decrease round: (k21, k2tog, k22, k2tog) end of round.
    repeat once more. Total 90 sts.
    Rnd 11: knit all stitches
    Crown Shaping
    Lacy Edging only: Bind off loosely.
    Rnd 1: (k8, k2tog) repeat to end of rnd.
    Plain edge only: purl one round. Bind off

    Rnd 3: (k7, k2tog) repeat to end of rnd.

    Rnd 7: (k5, k2tog) repeat to end of rnd. Using smaller diameter needles cast on
    Rnd 9: (k4, k2tog) repeat to end of rnd. 4 sts.
    Rnd 11: (k3, k2tog) repeat to end of rnd. Knit one row.
    Rnd 13: (k2, k2tog) repeat to end of rnd. Row 1: s1, k1, (YO) twice, k2.
    Rnd 15: (k1, k2tog) repeat to end of rnd. Row 2: s1, k1, (k1, p1) into the YO sts
    Rnd 17: (k2tog) repeat to end of rnd. from previous row, k2.
    Row 3: s1, k5.
    Rnd 18: knit all sts.
    Row 4: Bind off 2 sts, knit to end. Total 4
    Cut yarn leaving a 25 cm/10 inch tail, sts.
