Grays Socrative Technology Workshop


Lesson Plan

Overview: Our goal is to use data to find effective strategies to improve student academic
achievement. Socrative is a student response system that allows you to collect data by building
assessments and seeing results in real-time while engaging and assess students using
smartphones, laptops, and tablets.
Learning Objectives:
After completing this professional development, teachers will be able to:
Discover how Socrative can aid them in meeting the vision and goals established in the
School Improvement Plan
Explore the benefits of Socrative by creating quizzes, quick questions, a space race and
exit tickets.
Implement Socrative as a tool to engage students in the learner process, while assessing
students current knowledge and skills.
Implement Socrative as a tool to aid them in collecting data as they obtain immediate
feedback on student progress
Create goals for ways to implement Socrative into their own classrooms to engage
students and collect data.
NETS Teacher Standards:
2. Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and
assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content
learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the
StandardsS.
a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and
resources to promote student learning and creativity
b. Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue
their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational

Teachers exhibit knowledge, skills, and work processes representative of an innovative
professional in a global and digital society.
a. Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to
new technologies and situations
b. Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools
and resources to support student success and innovation
d. Model and facilitate effective use of current and emerging digital tools to locate,
analyze, evaluate, and use information resources to support research and learning

4. Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility


Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving
digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.
b. Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing
equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources

5. Engage in professional growth and leadership


Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning,
and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and
demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources.
a. Participate in local and global learning communities to explore creative applications of
technology to improve student learning
b. Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in
shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and
technology skills of others
c. Evaluate and reflect on current research and professional practice on a regular basis to
make effective use of existing and emerging digital tools and resources in support of
student learning
d. Contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession

students uses a variety of sources and types of student, educator, and system data to
plan, assess, and evaluate professional learning.

results for all students integrates theories, research, and models of human learning
to achieve its intended outcomes.

Hook: How many of you are tired of taking student work home to grade? How many of you are
tired of putting student scores into excel by hand? What if there was easier way to grade,
collects, and analyze student data from your smartphone, laptop or tablet?

4. Ask teachers to log into their laptops. Once teachers have logged in, direct them to open

beneficial in helping use reach the goals establish in the School Improvement Plan.

16. Demonstrate what students will see and what teachers will see by having the teachers
complete their previous survey using Socrative. The teachers will log into my classroom
using an anonymous name. They will complete the pre survey again. As the teachers are
completing the survey, I will use my projector to show them what I see as they complete
the survey. This will allow the teachers to experience Socrative from both the teachers
and students point of view.
17. 5 minute break: Encourage teachers to use the restroom. Serve snacks

Informal Assessment: I will observe teachers as they participate in workshop.
