Classroom Management 1 1
Classroom management is established through the use of positive discipline that is centered on a
classroom community that promotes the six pillars of character that District 308 encourages;
trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Daily predictable and consistent
routines are a part of the curriculum throughout the day to support learning while aiding in building
positive behavior and controlling negative student behavior. My role as the teacher is to serve as a
positive role model by following the classroom rules along with my encouraging and optimistic attitude.
Positive praise is given on a regular basis. My behavior plan reinforces appropriate student behavior and
utilizes natural/logical consequences with direct instruction. These all lead in providing students with a
safe atmosphere to allow them to feel respected, valued, and comfortable so they have more engaging
learning experiences and contribute positively to the community.
Every student is a part of our classroom community and are given clear expectations and logical
consequences. Together, classroom rules will be created. My role during this process is to guide students
to create appropriate classroom rules that foster a positive learning environment. A sample list of rules
would be:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Logical consequences will be given if rules are broken. If students make the mistake of breaking a rule, I
let them know that mistakes are forgiven and I guide students to take ownership of their mistake by
having them state what the negative behavior was, what they should have done, and what they can do if
the problem arises in the future. I see this as a teachable moment for students to understand that they can
learn from their mistakes. Students are encouraged to work through problems that they are able to
appropriately solve on their own.
