Reggae is usually played with a swing feel (or somewhere between straight and swung). Some of the characteristics of the style are the empty beat one (known as a one drop reggae), a heavy bass drum/snare cross-stick on count 3 and

the 2 & 4 guitar skanks (dampened scratch chords). The rst two reggae grooves start with fundamental one-drop patterns, and 3 & 4 are versions of a steppers groove (with the four-on-the-oor bass drum).
