_____________________________________________________________________________ PATIENT CARE SUPPORT/ HOSPTIAL EDUCATION AND STANDARDS CONSULTATIVE SERVICES PURPOSE: To provide a consultative process that shall facilitate and enhance achievement of individual, departmental, and organizational goals. Services may include but not be limited to: Education to meet individual or unit needs. Individualized precepting of new employees. Development of general Competency Assessment Tools. Education and training regarding new forms. Development and analysis of unit performance improvement plan. Assistance with interpretation and implementation of Joint Commission Standards. To provide education to patient families. POLICY: 1. Request for Consultative Services A verbal or written request for consultative services is required from the appropriate Administrator, Director or Unit Manager. 2. Contacting Consultants Education #56285, Standards #55145, WOCN #57206, Diabetes Education Department #57389,Vascular Access Specialty Team (PICCs) #7422 Assessment of Services Required A Patient Care Support Consultant shall communicate with the individual who makes the request within 48 hours to assess the services required. Departments that can be consulted include: a. Director of Hospital Education and Standards b. Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurse (WOCN) Program Coordinator c. Instructor, Diabetes Education d. Professional Practice Clinical Nurse Specialists e. Vascular Access Specialty Team (PICCs) Documentation For family education documentation shall be included in the electronic health record, if indicated. Depending upon services provided, documentation shall be given to the appropriate personnel and be kept on file in the respective Patient Care Services/Hospital Education and Standards office.
