Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson was born on the 19th of November 1989 and raps under the name Tyga. He signed a contract with Young Money entertainment in 2007 after his very first mixtape and has since released three studio albums.
The name is an acronym for Thank You God Always and with a career like his; one has reason to suspect some divine intervention. However, this is not to say he hasn’t earned the right to be one of the biggest names in mainstream hip hop.
The truth is you don’t get signed to the label of one of the world’s most notorious rappers and work with everyone from Drake to Nicki Minaj to Wiz Khalifa without earning the right to do so. It’s just that it’s happened faster than anyone could have predicted.
I mean, who predicts that the second major label single than an artist is a part of goes up to number 2 on the Billboard charts, as Tyga did with the Young Money collaboration “BedRock”? However, Tyga has never been one to let things happen around him.
They say you make your own luck, and in the music industry that’s more true than anywhere elese. For Tyga it was a chance encounter that he had in a shoe store with Travie McCoy. Tyga rapped for him on the spot and the Gym Class Heroes frontman took his mixtape there and then. They now refer to each other as cousins.
Tyga is a golden example of where a well taken opportunity can get you, and his time at the top has only just begun.

Having achieved a string of underground hits as well as a commercial album in the States, Tyga's fan base has grown substantially and he now backs out gigs with fans who rap along to every verse of opener 'I'm The Shit'.
A short interlude with Honey Cocaine makes the crowd cheer with joy as the two artists duet with staggering pace and aggression. His collaborative track 'Roger That' with Young Money is also a clear fan favourite, perhaps due to the hope that L'il Wayne may join for a verse or two. The complexity in verses found on such as 'Kings & Queens' and 'Hard in the Paint' prove that Tyga can really hold his own onstage and has no problem hitting every lyric on point.
His audience are enthusiastic throughout as they dance to the heavy bass that reverberates constantly through the whole gig. The finale of 'Rack City' gets the largest cheer as its huge chart success in the US is clearly reflected by the crowd, and they'll be humming the tune long after the gig has finished.
Tyga, whose real name is Michael Ray Nguyen-Stevenson (you can see why he shortened it) is a rapper and R&B artist who has developed somewhat of a cult following during the years of his musical career. He has achieved both commercial success (mostly due to his infamous tunes ‘Ayo’ and ‘Rack City’) and massive underground success due to his music. Tyga’s fan following is only too apparent during his shows, when whole audiences belt out the lyrics to some of his tunes. The controversial ‘Rack City’ is probably Tyga’s biggest hit and is easily recognisable. Tyga performed this to rapturous cheers. Indeed, his whole performance was fun and high energy. Tyga performs incredibly fast paced and his tunes are catchy enough that you can forgive the explicit language. ‘Hookah’ and ‘Switch Lanes’ were two of the highlights of the night. However, it was Tyga’s massive tune ‘Ayo’ with Chris Brown that generated the most excitement and that had the entire crowd jumping up and down and singing along in excitement. It was quite something to see thousands of fans screaming ‘Ayoooo’ repeatedly.
I think Tyga put on a GREAT show and definitely gave the people what they wanted and more. I would of liked to see him perform more songs off the album but it probably would of thrown off the party tempo of the night. Tyga did perform one of my favorites off his album entitled “Im Gone”. I had my fingers crossed hoping that Big Sean would appear from back stage to spit his verse but it didn’t happen. I figured since Bieber showed his face then anything could happen. Honey Cocaine came out and performed “Heisman”, YG ended up coming back out to perform “Bitches Aint Shit” and FiNaTTicz came out to perform everyone’s guilty pleasure “Thun Thun Song”. Overall it was a cool upbeat show and every artist gave 100%. The whole audience left the venue humming the “Rack City” hook with the “Thun Thun Song” lingering somewhere in their minds as well. The show was ideal for someone not so much into focusing on lyrics but more interested in having a good time and partying with the people around them.
It was great even with the extended wait time for t raw. He brought out Oakland's D Lo and had many other artists. Great music, great sound and stage lighting. Epic concert beautiful women.
it was so much fun... thanks for a good time. the ambiance is great the decor in the women's restroom was beautiful. love roses. the staff was friendly and helpful around the venue.
So dope!! Would so go again and recommend it.
Best moment was when everyone was yelling tyga's name and when the whole crowd put their flashlights on and it looked so cool!
