Last week, I was invited to speak at my alma mater, the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design (MIAD). At the end of one of the presentations, one of the professors asked, “Rachel, can you talk more about the importance of arts writing, why it’s necessary, and how you began writing?” As I started to form a response, I decided that this was one of the most important questions that could have been asked.

While it’s not every day that such a large group fills our spaces, this bustling scene signals the return of a vibrant collaboration between the Wausau School District’s Gifted and Talented program and the Museum.

My father’s side of the family has always been close because of a shared love for my grandparents, one of whom I never met. Although my grandpa George passed away before I was born, I inherited from him a love for something that has helped me stay close with my cousins, aunts, and uncles through the years—bonding over the University of Notre Dame.
