Between the Lions (1999)
Has good intentions
Ah, Between the Lions ... there are too many people who like the show or have praised it. Have they ever taken the time to watch an episode? I'll admit it, the show has some good intentions - it has humorous pop culture references, parodies, and celebrity guest stars. You'll need to include all of those to make a good kids show. The show also teaches kids how to read - letter sounds, making words, vowels and constants, you name it. Most PBS Kids reading shows are either rarely airing or off the air. I've seen bits and pieces of this show, and from what I've seen so many people like it. But the characters are annoying and aside from what I've mentioned, the skits are all bad and low quality writing. How and why has this show been going on for 10 years?
I'm glad this show isn't on anymore. There are other, much better kids shows which are a lot more tolerable.
Preschool Musical on a Stick (2008)
The Sprout equivalent of A Muppet Family Christmas
This special's a bit rare, but the premise is a little familiar as we've seen it in other Christmas specials ... family reunion. Could this be the Sprout equivalent of A Muppet Family Christmas? Maybe.
Wibbly Pig (2009)
Should be banned from kids
Seriously?! This show has a mackerel terrible influence on kids. It teaches them to sing all day and never stop singing and the phrase "hey Wibbly" gets old even after two viewings. Kids don't watch Wibbly Pig for educational purposes - they watch for entertainment. If you're letting your kid watch Wibbly, go the other way, and watch Blue's Clues.
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! (1989)
Like it ... I guess ...
I remember owning a copy of "Mario in the Deep" and I remember it didn't have the live-action segments.
I kinda like this show, maybe because it's live-action but has animated segments, setting the standard for The Chica Show and Wild Kratts years later.
The CBeebies House Show: Tweet Dreams, Andy (2019)
My favorite CHS episode
I love this episode. It's my favorite House Show episode in the whole wide world! In this episode, Andy Day stays up late on his computer. Andy realizes that he doesn't get any sleep, so his friends think of a way for him to stay up again tonight. When you don't get enough sleep, you'll feel grumpy, cranky and tired. I don't want to get grumpy and cranky just like Andy.
The Sunny Side Up Show (2007)
Awesome - a Modern Day ZOOM!
This show is almost all material sent in by viewers, and that's why it's reminiscent to the 70s PBS gem "ZOOM". The presenters are excellent. It is designed to empower preschoolers and was the most successful children's programme on Sprout from 2007 to 2017. This is no surprise to me since I love it. Sometimes there is a crossover with a Sprout show such as Sesame Street, Barney, The Wiggles, or the Good Night Show, or guest stars like Michelle Obama or Faith Evans.
"Sunny Side Up" will probably be enjoyed by kids from 0 to 7 and it better prepares children academically than "Sesame Street", "Mister Rogers", or "Bear in the Big Blue House".
Seriously, however, I'll admit it wasn't too bad, for the wee set. I believe that just about any live-action kids show, will always be compared to "ZOOM." Both this show and many like it, combined puppets with humans, and some an important lesson, or two. However, "ZOOM," a show with bigger funding and larger market appeal, seemed a much better produced product.
But "ZOOM" didn't have Kelly, Carly, Sean, Dennisha, Liz, and Kevin!
Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn (2014)
HORRIBLE!
If people say they hate children's television, this is what they're talking about. Too much verbal agressions and bad role models. Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, and Dawn whine about everything. You may not think it would be impossible for your kid to get even whinier, but if they have Nicky, Ricky, Dicky, and Dawn for models, all bets are off. Their saccharine Nickelodeon show is stuffed with adults pretending to be children, complete with a steady diet of giggles, and their parents Anne and Tom try their hardest to tie it all together. The annoying theme song sounds more like fingernails scratching on a blackboard. For those looking for better shows, head on over to PBS Kids and go watch "Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood" instead. It's way better than the Quad Squad. This show was thankfully taken off in 2018. I recommend you keep your kids far far away from this show as possible, I'll thank you later!
Yo Awesome Awesome!: Favorite Songs (2001)
Favorite Songs
This episode, where Estuardo Alvizures dressed as Michael jackson, originally aired in 2001. NBeebies accidentally aired "Favorite Songs", in January 2006. As a result of this, 216 complaints were received so the NBC banned the show from airing for 3 whole months up to April.
CBeebies Adventures (2019)
A Jewel in a Sea of Mediocrity
A must see if you have kids, a continuation of the Cbeebies House Show series! It is also the one show that will hold a 2-or-3-year-old's attention for very long.
This show teaches a lot more than just colors and shapes, they talk about flying ("Up, Up, and Away!"), the beach ("SPLASH! Hit Those Waves!"), horses ("Giddy Up!"), pyjamas ("Pyjama Time"), and more. Dodge is just sweet without tasting like diabetes, the songs are memorable and fun without being annoying andthe presenters are peppy without being hyper. Most of all, I LOVE how kind everyone is to each other, how all the characters are polite, respectful and say please and thank you. Too many children's programs are leaning towards sassy, sarcastic characters who look down on and disrespect everyone else.
The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius: One of Us/Vanishing Act (2006)
The Happy Show Show
If this show existed in real life, I would actually be hypnotized by it too. I can relate because here in real life, we have our own hated children's show (that is, "Barney")
Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (1968)
This is a KIDS show
Mister Rogers, regardless of personal opinion is too boring, too slow-paced, and too sweet. Most of the reviews on here are positive but I think my review is the first negative one. Sure, he displays negative emotions, but does so too slow. Slow-paced television can't hold a child's attention that long. It's aimed at KIDS, and not anyone else. No humor or anything, it's (again) just for kids. Kids over 6 won't find anything appealing in this show, unlike Sesame Street, which has appealing stuff to kids over 6.
Fun Song Factory (1998)
Not Good
This show is an obvious, cheap, and (as Rick from Rick and Morty would say) "legally safe" knock-off of Barney. Except they used adults instead of kids, whose virginities are taken by the canine doofus Ozzy Octave. Again, Ozzy is what Barney would be like if he were a dog. At least the show's creators also made Tweenies, which was way more successful and FAR better. This show has TERRIBLE songs, but Tweenies sang them much better. This show looks like it was filmed in one of the presenters' basements and written on a napkin in the car on the way home from taping. Again, the creators had little hope of quality as this show is a cheap Barney rip-off.
Baby Einstein: Baby Da Vinci (2004)
Got me into Baby Einstein
Even though I watched BE as a very small girl, this was the video that made me a true fan! It started when I was searching for the part of the Little Einsteins episode "Puppet Princess" where June was saying "Nose" repeatedly, when results popped up for Baby Einstein (particularly this) instead. So I watched it immediately. If it weren't for that moment, I would've not liked BE in the first place.
Leapfrog: Learn Numbers and Shapes (2013)
Very Boring
I watched LeapFrog DVDs when I was little, and I watched them again in 2019 but they were boring, with boring storylines and annoying songs. I think Baby Einstein videos are better.
LeapFrog Letter Factory Adventures: Amazing Word Explorers (2015)
Too Boring and Too Fast-Paced, Wild
I watched LeapFrog videos when I was little, and I watched them again in 2019 but they were all boring. All 19 LeapFrog videos (like this one) include boring storylines and annoying songs. Baby Einstein videos are definitely a much better buy!
LeapFrog Letter Factory Adventures: The Great Shape Mystery (2015)
Not Okay
I grew up watching LeapFrog videos, and I watched them again in 2019 but I was bored of them. All 19 LeapFrog titles (like this) also do not spend a lot of time helping your child learn letters, numbers, shapes, and phonics with boring storylines and annoying songs. Skip the LeapFrog series and go with Baby Einstein videos. Kids will learn calmer and in a much smarter way. If you're looking for an introductory shape recognition dvd, this is not it.
Leapfrog: The Magnificent Museum of Opposite Words (2013)
No Good.
I grew up watching LeapFrog videos, and I watched them again in 2019 but did not care for it at all, and honestly neither did I. All 19 LeapFrog titles (like this one) have boring storylines and annoying songs. I would recommend you buy Baby Einstein DVDs instead.
LeapFrog Letter Factory Adventures: Counting on Lemonade (2014)
Nothing but Boring
LeapFrog DVDs are both wild and so very very boring. I prefer Baby Einstein videos and you should buy those instead.
Leapfrog: Adventures in Shapeville Park (2013)
Too Boring and Too Fast!
LeapFrog DVDs are lame and boring. They include non-understandable scenes that will make brains turn into mush. My two year old can't stand these, and neither can I. Compared to the clever, creative Baby Einstein series these are just pitiful. DO NOT waste your money.
LeapFrog: Sing and Learn with Us! (2011)
Too much energy for kids
If you are looking for repetition, you found it!
I grew up watching LeapFrog videos, and I watched them again in 2019 but didn't hold my attention. the Baby Einstein videos, however, do.
Leapfrog: Numberland (2012)
Not True
I grew up watching LeapFrog videos, and I watched them again in 2019 and found them all to be truly disappointing. Also the age group is bogus up to six yrs no way!!!! You can try to make it fun but you still have to do a lot of the teaching for this to work. Children learn through repetition but also songs that include them, steal their attention by making them feel a part of it not the annoying singing on these DVDs (Dee , Let's Count!). Try Baby Einstein videos instead, they're way better at teaching, they're slower and calmer, and they keep kids engaged way longer.
Leapfrog: Phonics Farm (2011)
All 19 LeapFrog titles are not great
I watched LeapFrog videos as a little girl, and I watched them again in 2019 and they were all huge disappointments. As a 12 year old now, I'm so bored with them that I can't sit through them. Also, THEY DO NOT INCLUDE CLASSICAL MUSIC, which can be good for kids. I am a big fan of Baby Einstein, whose videos are much better for teaching numbers, shapes, and the like. The videos last for a full half hour and is much more engaging. I suggest buying Baby Van Gogh and not "The Letter Factory," "Let's Go To School," and "Letter Machine Rescue Team".
Leap Frog Letter Factory Adventures: The Letter Machine Rescue Team (2014)
Too Wild, Too Fast-pace, Too Boring
Now having said that all 19 LeapFrog videos are EXTREMELY boring! I grew up watching them, and I watched them again in 2019, but they were too boring. The videos use boring storylines and annoying songs and are much too repetitive.
If I do recommend something, then you should buy your kids Baby Einstein videos instead, because those videos are smarter, slower-paced, and keep the kids engaged much longer. Be sure to keep your kids far away from these videos as possible, and I'll thank you later.
Leapfrog: The Amazing Alphabet Amusement Park (2011)
Hate It, too boring!
This, like other titles in the LeapFrog series, is very boring. I grew up watching LeapFrog videos, and tried to watch them in 2019 but they were boring. All 19 LeapFrog videos do not hold kids' attention. They have boring storylines, annoying songs, and are very repetitive. But there are much better stuff like Baby Einstein, whose videos are not boring and will keep kids engaged way longer.
LeapFrog: Math Adventure to the Moon (2010)
Not Just Yet
I watched LeapFrog DVDs when I was little, and now as a 12 year old, I'm a little disappointed in LeapFrog DVDs. I wanted to like them in 2019, but I got bored halfway through. All 19 LeapFrog videos like this have kind of low budget animation, boring storylines, and annoying songs. I like Baby Einstein videos better.
