The Beautiful Ordinary (2007)
Such a boring movie!
I'm probably in the minority for saying this, but this movie sucks. The movie jumps from character to character and it gets confusing after a while. The cheerleader character seemed enjoyable in the beginning, but I started to hate her after she was so whiny about wanting to get wasted. The only reason I saw this movie is because Amber Heard is in it, but not even she could save this movie. Watching Never Back Down (another Amber Heard movie) will erase the torture I went through with watching this movie. This movie makes Can't Hardly Wait look like Avatar and I hate Can't Hardly Wait. I am baffled at all the positive reviews this movie has gotten. Don't let the skewed numbers fool you. Pass on this or you'll be in a "daze" after seeing this horrible movie!
Houseguest (1995)
Sinbad's best movie
When I saw previews for this, I really wanted to see it. Unfortunately I never got time to go the movie theater to go see it. But when it became a new rental, I went right down to Blockbuster and rented it. And I loved this movie. The pairing of Sinbad and Phil Hartman was excellent. The part when they leave the airport is hilarious and also when Sinbad tells Jason "Caress the wheel like a woman. Don't hold it like a pervert!" Then Jason says "But I don't know how to caress a woman." LOL. That part was hilarious. From beginning to end, this movie is definitely an all-time classic. Too bad they don't make movies like this anymore. Now a days it's over-hyped garbage like The Da Vinci Code or these teen slasher psycho movies where everyone just runs around and screams. Another part I really liked was when Sinbad says to the wine critic "Sounds like someone needs a woman." That part was hilarious too. Houseguest is a comedic gem that very few comedies can live up to. Definitely worth seeing for anyone who hasn't seen it yet and definitely worth buying to add to your collection!
Personals (1999)
Entertaining!
I love this movie. It's a very fun movie to watch. Although Keith (Malik Yoba) is a womanizing jerk, I felt it was a good change of pace for Yoba from the responsible on top of things characters he usually plays. Point being even though I didn't like the actions of his character for the most part, I felt Yoba did a great job with the role. His friend Mick was hilarious. Stacy Dash was OK in this movie. Despite admiring Keith's effort to win over Leah (Dash), I just felt Dash seemed too much like a robot. The dates Keith went on were entertaining but none of the women really caught my eye except for Veronica (Delilah Cotto). Her wardrobe was killer and she seemed very promiscuous however very sweet and loyal. Cotto is the main reason why I really like this movie. Too bad Keith screwed that one up. Personally I would have went for Veronica over Leah. Cotto seemed more lively in her performance than Dash was in her performance. This movie is very entertaining and the comedy is fresh. Not that same boring shtick you see in Jim Carrey movies. A must see for people who want to see something new and interesting!
Empire (2002)
Excellent movie
I didn't think much of this movie when I saw the previews and I didn't intend to see it. But a couple years after it was made, I decided to give it a chance so I decided to go to Best Buy and buy The DVD. So one Monday night I popped it in my DVD player and I was hooked from beginning to end. John Leguizamo gives a tour de force performance as Victor Rosa, a very successful South Bronx drug dealer. Victor hooks up with Wall Street Banker Jack Whimmer (Peters Saarsgard) for an investment opportunity to get money beyond his wildest dreams. Little does Victor know that Jack and his girlfriend Trish (Denise Richards) don't seem to be who they really are. As the movie goes on, you'll see Victor running into even more trouble. Denise Richards might not be my favorite actress but she's watchable in this film and Peter Saarsgard is excellent as Jack. The two performances that easily get over looked are Vincent Laresca as Victor's hot headed trigger happy best friend Jimmy and Treach as Victor's less volatile friend Cheddah. And of course the real standout performance in this movie is Carmen (Delilah Cotto) Victor's college student girlfriend. Cotto plays the role to perfection. Her and Leguizamo have excellent on screen chemistry together. Contrary to what some people say, this is an excellent movie from start to finish and fires on all cylinders. This film is a true masterpiece!
