Ted Lasso: We'll Never Have Paris (2023)
BAD LASSO
Where to begin with this mess of an episode. This had "jump the shark" implications. What happened to this show after a great Season 3 start? Like many mentioned in their reviews this is one of the worst Ted Lasso episodes along with Season 2's "Beard After Hours". After the boring "Sunflowers" episode this should have been expected. I remember reading the only review posted at the time of Sunflowers before watching it. There was only one. The reviewer gave it a 3 star rating and called it a filler episode. The IMDb rating at that time was a 9.4 so I was expecting a great episode. I was sure that reviewer got it all wrong. Nope. To me "Sunflowers' was filler just like I read. The following week the show seemed back to normal. Then "We'll Never Have Paris" started out bad with almost everything in it following that trend. The relationship between Keeley and Jack is just too much. Too much time spent on it and a boring relationship that's killing this show. Remember when Keeley was in love with Jamie and Roy not that long ago? Quite the 360 here. Ted Lasso was great at one time. Now it's on the way down. Sunflowers will have you SLEEPING in your seats. It's that bad. I'm sad that the writers and creators couldn't do better. They need an episode like Season 2's "Rainbow" to bounce back. Time to regroup writers.
South Park: Tweek x Craig (2015)
Man This Show Is STILL OUTSTANDING!
This is one of my faves! Just the whole tone of the episode. The plot, the incredible music and the typical South Park sick but intelligent humor. Peter Gabriel's "The Book Of Love" song just melts into the scene. The same with the super catchy "Say Something" by "A Great Big World with Christina Aguilera". Great emotion and it's in of all things, this supposedly tasteless cartoon . But anyone who follows the show knows how great they incorporate their own music, someone else's or a combination of both into some big moments. This one had me at the Book Of Love. I play this episode as much as any from the totally uncensored era. South Park is so on topic relating to the year they were released. Standing ovation for Trey and Matt on this one.
S.W.A.T.: Farewell (2022)
Great Episode But....
Chris is leaving S. W. A. T.??? Wow!!! That will change alot of what's good about this show. Lina Esco was the main reason I started watching the show in the first place. Good thing they have a decent cast. Personally I don't know if I'll be "as" interested in watching. Definitely will be watching it on the Paramount app the next day. No Chris, no annoying commercials for me. Anyway this is a good episode. The plot of the brainiac student Joseph Reid and the raging Mark Rodgers making a dangerous nerve gas is different for SWAT. Some creative type writing for this show. Kind of reminds me of Homeland with Quinn and the sarin gas. If you like this show you should enjoy this episode. Farewell Chris.
The Lost City (2022)
The Final Countdown
Glad I saw this on the Paramount app and didn't pay movie theater prices. Brad Pitt is the best part of the movie and he isn't in it long enough. Da'Vine Joy Randolph does a good job. Daniel Radcliffe is also respectable. The Sandra and Channing thing gets annoying after a while. The writing is thin and predictable during some of those parts. The author character works in certain scenes. Some fall flat though. There are definitely some laughs to be had here, but also some lulls in the middle. Fortunately things pick up some at the end. Sandra's best scene was in the cave at the tomb. Her funniest part was when she was still zip tied in a chair then put in a very small car. It reminded me of her older work. Oscar Nuñez is always my hero!
FBI: Face Off (2022)
Good Enough
Decent episode . Definitely could have been better. Shantel VanSanten has been very good. Glad she's staying. No Arctic jackets. That didn't cut it. James Chen is missing. That's too bad for CBS. Chen was outstanding in Season one. Don't know why they don't use him more. The nepotism isn't guy isn't working at all. The plot is good enough. Season one is still the best easily there best. I guess less is more for the suspense. Those episodes were more thrilling than almost every episode after.
FBI: International (2021)
Too Bad It Gets Low Scores Here
I would hate to see FBI:International get canned after just one season. Personally I think it's the best F. B. I show in CBS's appointed hashtag #FBIFam right now. Not sure if I consider it better then the original FBI show with Maggie and OA Season 1. That First Season was great minus the "Most Wanted" episode, pilot whatever you call it. To bad it tainted that awesome First Season. This FBI:International First Season reminds me of that freshness and great cast. Hope CBS is getting good ratings on this one. I love what I see.
S.W.A.T.: Survive (2022)
Sweet Stuff!
If Chris is featured in an episode and looks incredible I'm giving it a high score right there. Nice action and acting in this one. Well written. If you love SW. A. T you should be impressed.
Criminal Minds: It Takes a Village (2011)
I Miss Seaver
Rachel Nichols wasn't a fan favorite in the beginning after AJ Cook was let go by CBS for budget reasons. Terrible bonehead move Network Execs. Seaver was a solid character who was blonde like JJ. Coincidence? With Prentiss and JJ returning there was no room for 2 blondes I guess. This episodes ties together and finishes Emily's secret Interpol life and almost death. Nothing beats the original team with Gideon and Elle. Rachel Nichols was a nice fill in. Too bad CBS couldn't make room for her.
A Christmas Proposal (2021)
Decent Holiday Movie
It was better than expected. I watched it on the Paramount App the day after it was on CBS. All the commercials were removed on the app. Only 1hr 27mins long in length now. Many borrowed stereotypes from other Christmas and love stories. Very enjoyable but a lot of saccharine is mixed in. My wife really enjoyed it. Movies like this are bound to have similarities to the classics.
Hawkeye: Ronin (2021)
Episode 6 Should Be Great
My only real gripe with episode 5 is the "Jack Duquesne" character was minimally used. Tony Dalton is so creepily awesome! The storyline gets deeper and the intensity goes up. My grandkids turned me onto this series and I am so grateful. 7 grandchildren can give an old timer some fresh ideas the way my own children did. "Hailee Seinfeld" has another great performance. "Jeremy Brenner" is always fun to watch. Having "The Mayor Of Kingston" series running at the same time is a real treat. "Hawkeye" doing that NYC Christmas with style is another Holiday bonus.
Hawkeye: Partners, Am I Right? (2021)
Tony (Salamanca) Dalton Is a Great !
This show is awesome to begin with. I'm not the demographic they're after but with 7 grandkids I get shown some diverse movies and TV shows. We are having a great time with this series. Tony Dalton plays one of the creepiest most intense characters ever in "Better Call Saul". His "Jack" character here is another winner. "Hailee" and "Jeremy's characters work great together. I'm binging on the 4 episodes that are available. I need a new episode real soon! I'm sure episode 5 will be as intense as the first 4. Marvel and Disney scored big with Hawkeye.
United States of Al: Promises/Wadaha (2021)
Political And Real
The CBS writers must've been salivating over the withdrawal from Afghanistan. CBS has been political and politically correct in their plots before any other sitcom and drama from any other Network. They did LGBT plots before anyone. BLM seem to make the rounds of their lineup. Last night's episode for a comedy wasn't very funny. CBS did fuel anti Biden sentiment with the Taliban taking over Afghanistan, just like in real life. Going by the previews for next week CBS will ride this train again. There were excellent segments and acting in this episode. There was also over done scenes with overacting. I watch comedies to laugh. This Afghanistan pullout is constantly in the news. Yeah, "United States Of Al" reenacted what could've been a real life scenario. They also became a drama show. Not exactly Timmy getting dumped on from Russell from "Rules Of Engagement". I'll see how long this is a record show on my DVR schedule. CBS comedies aren't very funny these days. So glad for streaming sites where I know I will laugh.
Disclosure (2020)
Minimal Artsy Flick
I love Geraldine Hakewill or I wouldn't have even watched this. The cast is small as is the plot. Not an action packed movie. Mostly dialogue. Interesting and mysterious at times. The lack of a set changes hurts this attempt at making whatever they were going for. When you are used to watching "Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries" or "Wanted" this is a major disappointment. A very bizarre affair. Hope we get a Season 3 of Peregrine Fisher!
FBI: All That Glitters (2021)
Nice Start, Too bad "Most Wanted" Was Involved
Great start to the "FBI" season. Nice storyline and suspense. My only gripe is they had to do a special "FBI Family" (#FBIFAM) special. Definitely would give this episode a 9 or a 10 if "Most Wanted" wasn't involved. Not a fan of that show. Julian McMahon just doesn't do it for me. His line delivery, the awkward way he stands and rants, not a fan. Fell asleep during the "FBI" to "Most Wanted" transition. Hope there are less of these type episodes. CBS is still trying to build a drama empire that will be missing once all the NCIS shows are gone. A new CSI is already coming out. As far as "FBI", it's been uneven since season one ended. James Chen is off the show for good I guess. CBS doesn't realize his importance to the show. Taylor Anthony Miller is still a horrible replacement. Nepotism, what are you going to do? The in office interaction and chemistry is lacking. Sela Ward left on her own terms and the show has never been the same since. I hope most of what I saw on just the "FBI" portion of last night's episode is a sign of what's to come.
Cry Macho (2021)
An MST3K Classic Sadly
This isn't Clint in his prime. This is sad just watching Clint Eastwood trying to walk. The lines are extremely limited and the script is bad. If Mystery Science Theater 3000 was around to use "Cry Macho"in an episode the star rating would go up. 5 stars because Clint is a legend. He definitely is way past his prime. Most scenes where Clint is trying to get out of a car or make some kind of movement the camera cuts away to the end result. They don't show you Clint Eastwood laboring trying to do anything. The poor guy can barely walk. Talk for that matter. I hate to see a movie legend go out like this. The cost to make "Cry Macho" isn't listed. The 4 million dollars Box Office numbers makes sense. I feel sorry for Clint Eastwood more than anything watching this. "Cry Macho" is a bomb. If you love Clint Eastwood a true American icon, don't watch this. Remember him for the movies that made him a legend.
Ted Lasso: Beard After Hours (2021)
Had It's Moments
Surprised to see the high ratings. This episode was certainly different than the Ted Lasso formula we're used to. Hard to believe this episode is in the same season as the outstanding "Rainbow". Too much bizarre and not enough regular cast members. I supposed they saved big bucks on performance fees. Love ya Doozer but this one fell short.
The Good Fight: And the Détente Had an End... (2021)
Too Silly
"The Good Fight" seems to be fading away. The fake courtroom schtick has run its course. I'm a huge Mandy Patinkin fan too. His work on "Homeland" and "Criminal Minds" was amazing. He is one talented guy. For some reason the writers who had something good going before covid19 came back with some bad ideas. There were some good parts to this episode but not many. "Jumped the shark" comes to mind but I'm hoping for a huge season rebound. Not holding my breath though.
Five Feet Apart (2019)
Great Emotional Movie
Sure "The Fault In Our Stars" comes to mind when watching this. Heck they even use "Wait" by M83 which was also used in Fault and on their Original Soundtrack. "Five Feet Apart" is not a carbon copy of Fault by any means. Cole Sprouse, Haley Lu Richardson and Moises Arias do an outstanding job acting in Five Feet portraying CF patients . The supporting cast especially Kimberly Hebert Gregory as nurse Barbara did a great job as well. It is a movie so accuracy may be off at times for the drama. It works well though. Highly recommended. Give "Five Feet Apart" a chance. If you liked "The Fault In Our Stars" or similar movies you'll be glad you did.
Outer Banks: The Coastal Venture (2021)
Gilligan's Island?
Ok, I'm not the target audience so if I was I would probably give this a 9. It's still bothersome when they call these 20 something actors 16 and 17 when John B is pushing 30. Definitely more action scenes than Season 1. Landing on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere with no drinking water would be bothersome for me. Laughing around a campfire frying fish smiling and laughing I would not be. But hey, I watched both seasons binging so they must be doing something right. And a season 3 would be nice. P4L!
Ms Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries (2019)
Great Show!
Season 2 just ended and I miss Peregrin Fisher already. This show is pure fun. Peregrin's 60's outfits, makeup and hairstyles add so much color to the episodes. I've been in love with Geraldine Hakewill since the "Wanted" series. Australian TV has so many quality shows. Acorn TV is one of my favorites. I hope a 3rd installment of "Ms. Fisher's Modern Murder Mysteries" is in the works. All the characters do a great job. This show is a winner!
Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021)
It Is A Kids Movie
Fun movie! The Grandkids loved it. They've watched it 3 times already on HBO MAX. I've seen the original so I don't know why the other reviewers (perhaps adults?) are cutting it down. Kids under 13 will most likely love it. Can't speak for the ages over that. LeBron and Don Cheadle do a great job.
Miss Sloane (2016)
Great Movie
Surprised the box office numbers weren't larger on this one. Now that it's on Netflix you have nothing to lose. Jessica Chastain is outstanding. The entire cast does a great job actually. The writing is excellent. The plot keeps your interest. Very clever at that. Controversial topic still to this day. I suspect the lower ratings are from gun enthusiasts.
United States of Al: Blackout/Parchawi (2021)
Outstanding Episode!
Funny and touching. This show has been a winner from the start. They really hit a home run with this one.
B Positive: Transplanticipation (2021)
No Samantha Again?
"B Positive" had been heading in the wrong direction with the flow of it's plots lately. Seems like the writers are just throwing ideas out there and making an episode out of loose plots. This show started out very strong in the first 12-13 episodes and was a funny well written show. Sure, Gina's voice can get annoying and the character is overkill at times, but the formula worked. Drew's daughter and Ex-wife were part of that original formula which worked. CBS loves to tweak and change shows mid game. Example, "Man With A Plan". The laughs are starting to disappear on this one. Briga Heelan who plays Samantha has a witty delivery and added to the previously funny hi jinx in the dialysis room. Some of the funniest laughs came during those segments. Samantha is M. I. A. For the last 2 episodes and it shows. A reoccurring roll can change the chemistry of a show. The Samantha character is funny. Why take that out of the equation CBS? To make room room for the disjointed new plot of Drew and Adriana? As a cancer patient I don't mind that topic being introduced to the show but think CBS is throwing a "Hail Mary" using it so soon. The new "Big C" addition has been too awkward so far. Maybe season 2 would've been a better time to start a different plot line of this magnitude. A comedy with too much drama is what the show has become. The relationship between Drew and his daughter Maddie was well written and funny when it was a bigger part of the plot. I guess the powers to be thought a different direction was in order. Some viewers aren't going to be as critical and be satisfied with whatever you throw at them. Self evaluation time CBS, writers and "B Positive" producers. You're starting to loose the elements that made this show an instant hit in the first place. I'm rooting for this show. Don't ruin yet another comedy. Tweak a show when you're losing it. Not while it's still hitting it's stride.
FBI: Brother's Keeper (2021)
Fair
Not your season one FBI. No Ian at all in this episode. James Chen played a bigger part than the execs at CBS realize. The chemistry he offered in S1 was worth sicking with. Lame-O Taylor is getting too much nepotism airtime. Where did last week's Nestor fueled show disappear too? Paramount didn't put it up. ITunes had it for sale the day after then took it down. Anyway I didn't get to rate that one. 5 Stars and that's generous. "Brothers Keeper" was better than most Season 3 FBI episodes. The Maggie's sister drug addiction plot was stale. Can't believe CBS renewed all FBI's plus a new one. The fans that like anything CBS throws at them will never change. With all the streaming options out there watching FBI now isn't like waiting for a S1 episode. How does a show go from a solid 9 to 3-7 Stars?
