A totally waste of time. An overweight Tom Hardy valse through this film without a glimpse of enjoyment in his eyes. He says time after time that he has an enormous hangover but that doesn't excuse his poor performance. Zombie like. Depressing. And the storyline doesn't make any sense. Thinner than Deadpoles multilayer of timelines. And that was impossible to understand. The research doctors in the compound while trying to include a one dollar sob Freud to one of them just fall flat because it doesn't really have any meaning and the military agenda is just plain dumb. The WW couple are supposed to be a comic relief but is just sad. Summa summarum. Like Deadpole and Penguin this is a film that want to cash in on the comics series but have lost all energy in the process and end up as stone cold films with no heart and no panache. Sad.

The Penguin
(2024)
Anything goes
18 October 2024
You have a town that should look like a town in the fifties but with mobile phones and electric cars it look like a studio plant. You have lead actor that is Colin Farell but doesn't look like Colin Farell. He plays the Penguin but doesn't look like a penguin. Anything goes. You have a mob family that's suppose to care for the family but put the next in line in an asylum. Or third or second or an uncle or whoever because anything or everything goes and we don't know who's who. You got a script that's Plothole City and tries to tell a story about the Penguin but flip flops around several timelines and flashbacks and give us an hour in Gothams asylum with ham acting. Do the crazy peoples boogie. Roll your eyes and out with the tongue. Anything goes. Mr Farell should have said "Hey, shouldn't the Penguin look a bit like me?
No?
Well, we have come up with this concept and we think that anything goes in a tv series about serial killers and grotesquely drawn characters. Farell doesn't have to be Farell.

Monsieur Spade
(2024)
Excellent. Best TV drama this year.
24 September 2024
I haven't been a fan of Owen, he was just one film from being the new Nick Cage i. E. never a really good film the last ten years. So I was a bit reluctant when this series comes along. Sam Spade? But lo and behold, Clive Owen carry the leading role with panache and gets his character just right. Amazing. The story about spies and resistance movement and some boy who is kidnapped and maybe a genius is hard to follow but Owen sort of make sense of it all with his performance and appearance. Not an easy task but we get plenty rewards along the way. An American in the countryside in France in the fifties seems like a bad idea, but it's not. It's interesting and suspenseful and sensuous and great entertainment. Kudos to Owen and the team behind this series.
Deadpool & Wolverine
(2024)
A sad and boring rip off
20 September 2024
I quite liked the first Deadpool. And the Logan movies. The one in Japan especially. With the Shogun actor as his antagonist. But the more Ryan interfered with the script the more boring the Deadpool character became. I understand that being in a red leather suit 90% of the movie, that an extra could have performed as good, you want to blabber on as much you can when you get tens of millions for the 10%. Hey guys, what about if I say this. He, he. Poor Wolverine has to put up with it. Through the history of Logan in every film he's quite a serious guy. Now he has to put up with all the silliness all the time. And what about all this timelines? Did anyone get it? Yes I understand that Disney has to milk every cent of the characters they bought. But in the end it's us who pay for this sad and boring spectacle.
The Continental
(2023)
No Wick
11 October 2023
To make a series with the only connection to John Wick is a hotel he use to stay at and call it The world of John Wick is snake oil selling. The episodes take place forty years before Wick checked in and was angry because his dog was killed. Similar motives dance around in this universe. Yes Wicks films is always over the top. But the plotholes in the Continental set new highs. Like the women that are willing to lend her homeless men/killers for Wilsons cause. Not for money but for a story? Guess Mel Gibson is up for a raspberry for his role as the psychopath/ owner of the hotel. Overacting? You kidding me? And what about two American brothers where one of them suddenly is supposed to be English. Winston.
Guy Ritchie's the Covenant
(I) (2023)
Rhapsody in blue.
25 September 2023
There is a sadness in this movie that has a lot to do with Jake Gyllenhaals acting. He is tired and sad the whole film. War films aren't happy films but you have to lighten up the story now and then. Even a dystopi like On the Westfront have it's moments of laughs and fun. Too bad.
And when it comes to modern warfilms a lot of trolls want us to believe what happened and why. At the end of the film you can read what happened to translators and other servicemen who helped the American Army under 20 years of war. And go to factcheck and read the timeline when Trumps administration made the deal with the Taliban to withdraw from Afghanistan and how Bidens administration inherited the fiasco and couldn't handle their allies safety. This film doesn't help people to understand what really happened to those loyal families who was left behind.

Something is missing.

Season 2 of The Chelsea Detective is a great disappointment. Something is missing and of cause it is the talented Sonita Henry as Max sidekick. I loved their chemistry and acting. Now Scarborough lacks energy and the new DS is not specially interesting. Sonita is a hard act to follow. And Henry and Max could get away with some plotholes in the story but now it's too much strange twists and strange incitement to swallow. An ex cop who's just a private driver, something about a who is rich and ten other red herrings along the way without any real explanation. Max lovelife is just strange and you can't understand the attraction. And so on. Why did Sonita Henry leave the show? Get her back. Now its just another half good detective story among others.
It ends with me... here

Well, the two first seasons were great (8/10). The third was, so far, a real nothingburger. The love intrest for Charles doesn´t make any sense. Sans fish. Martin Short try to do his best Al Pacino improvsation and fall short, and Selena Gomez just walk through the scenes, lost and without any direction. Rudd and Streep are just irritating, though Maryl Streeps lullabye show her talent. But her role doesn´t give her any oppurtunity to shine. Why did it fall from a certain 8 to a certain 5? Seem like their heart isn´t in there any more. And those white craziness scenes that Steve Martin is given, is just bad and unintresting. Who can save this series? Not any "guest" apperance. We like to se the interaction between the three main characters. Not on one on one, but all three. Together. Then maybe I´m back.
The Diplomat
(II) (2023– )
Great stuff!
8 May 2023
Keri Russell is outstanding. Own this series from start to finish. So talented. So interesting. The story about diplomacy and politics are fascinating and a lot of fun. The cast is excellent. But when everybody says her husband is a dish and a catch it's hard to believe. And the motifs for their divorce seems unnecessary and typical American writing. He's interesting without all epithets. And the geopolitical subplots are believable for once and so are CIA and MI6. The creator seems to know her way around the map of Middle East and Europe. So summa summarum; Great show, and specially the women in the show. Smart, funny with a bite. You don't even notice that they are one Asian, one Black and one White as in all series to meet the right criteria. It seems completely natural.
A Spy Among Friends
(2022)
A great spy series
16 February 2023
Lewis and Pearce, as Elliot and Philby, are really good in this slow and interesting semi fictional spy story. More about friendship than about ideology. But the best performance come from Anna Martin as Elliots interrogator. Sharp and dangerous and with a mind of her own. Typically for our time they have to saddle her with a black doctor and some politically correct speech which
doesn't have anything to do with the story and drama. Things some controller demands in every series. Diversity etc. But this is a spy story about the white boy upperclass club that produced five spies who knew each other from university. Not a tale of equality. I would have liked a bit more from Philby and Elliots home life than from the fictional Anna Martins love life. Great acting anyhow and a really interesting tale from a time when membership in the boy's club made you get away with treason and betraying your country.
Colette
(I) (2018)
Colette - a pleasure to watch.
6 February 2023
The film is beautiful and sure. And the lead character, Keira Knightley as Colette and Dominic West as her husband Willy are showing us how people behaved at the turn of the century. Or misbehaved. Willy pressure Colette to write but take the credit for it. Women authors doesn´t sale. Specially when it comes to romance and sex. Something Colette knows about but Willy doesn´t understand. He understand adultery, voyeurism and sex, but he can´t write about it. Keira Knightley as Colette is perfect as is West as Willy. Things happens between the two and the director Westmoreland let it happen. It´s authentic and interesting and we understand that Willy is both deplorable and charming. And Colette not only a victim. .
The flaw come in the end when Colette has an inflammatory speech about women and their right to their life. Well, that´s what we have seen the last two hours, n´est ce pas? They should just have cut it out - but the director got cold feet and didn´t trust his film so he had to sum it up with something Colette never would have said. His "sureness" wobbles - as the director hammer in the message. Pity.
Still very good film, even if the "Cabaret" episodes are something writers and directors seem to have much more fun at then us viewers.

Nothing works
30 January 2023
Charlie has only been the new head of MI 6 a couple of days when his wife becomes suspicious of him and tell her friend about it. A friend she hasn't seen for some years. Tell her that he can't handle the pressure. Well, give him a least three days. Her nagging and sneaking up on him is strange and make no sense.
And I don't like it when you use children in spy stories. It usually means that the writers aim for the easy way out.
And a more loveless couple than Chaplin and Charlie make you wonder why they stay together. And the plot. Don't get me started on that. Plothole City. Nothing make any sense.

Hartde to swollow

The problem with adopting a good book to a TV-series is that the writers want to put in their hobby horses instead of stripping the story to the bone.
Here it is a one-dollar Freud about Gamache childhood in the form of a bird feather or a bird that make him see birds all the time. And have nightmares and so on. It has nothing to do with the main story or solving of the crimes. Worse. The lost Native American story that run through the whole series and make the excellent Elle-Maija Tailfeathers - spend time with that story which is like an own film. It just drag Penny's storytelling down son that her other lovable characters, Zardo, Oliver etc. Has no screen time at all.
Molina? Well, not my Chief Inspector Gamache, No French ambiance there. Not a whiff. As in her books.
Tailfeathers as Lacoste. Just right and great acting..
And the Deus ex machina - in the form of a bear - is way over the top of a detective solution.

Emily rules
8 January 2023
Nearly as good as season One. Paris is a movable feast as Old Hem wrote in his memories. Not that much have changed in a hundred years. Americans in Paris behaves as usual and like then refuse to learn the language.
But it's fun and Lily Collins is perfect as Emily. The cast is excellent and the story intriguing. The creator of miss Collins wardrobe is a genius. Even when it's over the top. Great. And a Vespa from Dior. Marvelous. Of cause Emily in Paris is a fantasy. But everyone who have lived in Paris for some time, like me, know that a lot of the characters and stories are true. I was never put off if it sometimes comes out as a cartoon of French lifestyle. I see it as a homage to Paris.

Jack Ryan
(2018–2023)
Terrible
31 December 2022
The third season of Jack Ryan was terrible bad. Not a new thought or a good story. And the characters are really bad. Krasinski look like Clive Owen with a hangover. Slow, no energy and no acting. Like he could get away with doing nothing.
In Tom Clancys universe are Geer an Admiral. In this series he is just a busboy, a sidekick to Jack Ryan. Using the phone and staring at the horizon. He doesn´t seem to have a clue - we don´t in any case. Everything is muddy. When Jack and Geer walk down a street it´s like two bears lumbering on.
And everybody is at least a dubble agent, more often a tripple agent. Hard to understand who´s who. Even in the CIA. And every Russkies are soaked in vodka and at least a traitor or a plant. And suddenly a Russian hitman can take commando over the Greek Police to hunt down Jack Ryan. Hmm.. You wish.
After Jack Ryans character, with actors like Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck, this one(Krasinski)are hopless with his little boy lost apperance.

Doc Martin
(2004–2022)
Great TV show.
14 August 2022
The doctor(Clunes)and the teacher (the lovely Catz)are excellent actors. Specially Catz who seem to do everything right. Great chemistry between the leading roles. Not too keen on the nutty policeman and the pharmacist. Way over the top and more tragic than funny or interesting. Morwenna at the reception desk have a difficult role but the actress pulls in off with flying colors. So do the two aunts. And son and father Large when they have a good storyline. Tricky because they sometimes get off the road and become dumb and dumber. Seems unnecessary. However. It never becomes boring or silly with Catz and Clunes. Great show.
Mank
(2020)
Blew it
7 August 2022
Here was a chance by one of the best directors around to make an interesting film about the fundament in all film making. The storyteller. He blew it. Nothing works. Boring and a bit pretentious and Oldham isn't good enough to carry the lead under those circumstances. Too bad.
Krag & Virkner
(2022)
Scene's from a marriage. Danish style.
4 August 2022
This is a mature and pitch perfect semi documentary. And a reminder of our history through the years and quite brave. It's about the Prime minister of Denmark Krag and his constant choice between love and politics and about the actress Virkner and her role as an actress, mother and first lady. Interesting! A close up at a politician sounds boring, but thanks to the direction and the two actors it's really fascinating. Great entertainment.
Slow Horses
(2022– )
Brilliant.
30 May 2022
Didn't care much for the book, but this series was brilliant. God plot and writing. Excellent acting. Excellent casting. It's not le Carre, nothing elegant about it with his intelligent players. Not Oldman as Smiley in disguise. This lot is bunch of dirty, failed, spies. Some not that clever. A tragic menagerie but also interesting. You would think that Oldman should totally dominate the show, but others got to shine too. Thankfully! Looking forward to season 2.
Blackhat
(2015)
Really good. Mann is always interesting.
29 May 2022
A bit miss understood. This film is Mann entertainment at its best. Not Heat but really good. Tang Wei excellent. She always is. A contemporary touch to the cinematography gives it edge. Pure fun and also an interesting story. Those who gave this around five star didn't see it. Hate marks.
The Lost City
(2022)
A classic Bomb
19 May 2022
Nothing works. The acting is terrible, the jungle and the mountains are computer animated on an old PC. The story more sad than funny or interesting. Part of it is of cause borrowed from Romancing the Stone but without the sex and the smartness. Sandra B is tragic no only her role and give her worst performance in a long time. A total bore.
Terrible

Death on the Nile
(2022)
Rather terrible
8 April 2022
The data animations of Egypt, Nile and the boat were terrible. I think the director and the film company wanted it to be flat and theatrical. We really should know that it was just make believe. That did work. You never believed any character. Just carbon copies. And the boat I suppose were a homage to the Glass menagerie. But it was as boring as every time a director think he's an artist and don't really care for the audience. The Ustinov and Suchet film of the Death are superior to this.
A treat
27 March 2022
After the two first seasons I was worried that the 3 was going to be dull when the female cop disappeared from the show. Au cointrarie! With the always annoying Saskia as a replacement the show become genuinely more interesting. Great show.
Reacher
(2022– )
Not my Reacher
28 February 2022
Always liked the Reacher character in the books. Great writing. Hard to find the right actor to the films. This guy is too clumsy and a too bad an actor to land it. And the screenplay are from plothole city. Very little makes sense and the resurrection of Picard make you blush. But Willa Fitzgerald is stellar as the small town cop. And she can deliver the most terrible lines and make them believable. I guess she is out for next season when Reacher tear down the next town. Give her an own series. She can really act and without her this series would have crash landed big time.
