What a lovely little film this was. The chemistry between Elvira Camarrone and Roberto Christian was responsible for this, but the extras were top notch as well. You can measure quality by that, by the fact that the supporting roles are also played with care and attention. The mix of love, hope and sadness makes this a movie that can proudly stand next to 'The Fault in our Stars', 'Now is good' and others in its genre. Highly recommended for those who enjoy this genre of films. For sure.
Everyone has her/his own love story. The one author Sally Rooney wrote for Connell Waldron and Marianne Sheridan was beautiful and agonizing at the same time. No show or movie (or book) ever, touched my soul more than Normal People did. It changed my view on just about everything. It made me rethink my life and how precious love and friendship are. It made me love my wife even more! And above all that I also discovered singer songwriter Lisa Hannigan whose song 'Undertow' features in one of the episodes (E04 if I'm not mistaken). I fell in love with her lyrics and songs, head over heels. A day without a Lisa song now, is simply unthinkable 😊.
Lenny Abrahamson (Room) directed the show and he is a genius. Everything is right on; the acting, the script, the mis-en-scene and the soundtrack. All wonderful. Daisy Edgar-Jones (War of the Worlds) is on her way of becoming a superstar and Paul Mescal (The Lost Daughter) has portrayed the man-of-the-future, the response of female viewers to his character Connell is almost Beatle-esk.
Personally, I would recommend Normal People for those who love shows that are realistic and tell tales of real people with real feelings. Shows like, to name a few, The Affair (starring Ruth Wilson) or Unbelievable (starring Caitlin Deaver). The novel by Rooney is also terrific and explains more why Connell and Marianne act as they act. Because there are moments during te tv-show when I thought: "Why does he/she do this of that?" It makes no sense! After reading the novel, I understood it better. Most of those things had to do with the inner thoughts and feelings of the characters.
Normal People is great for those of us who have been lucky enough to live a true love of our own. It makes us remember how wonderful and all-consuming that felt. I've watched the show four times allready and I cannot bring myself to end my 4,99 euros Starzplay suscription, not as long as Normal People is streaming on it.

Alba Baptista is endearing. You 'll find yourself rooting for her, like I did. The scenes in the orphanage are gruesome and make your heart weep. But those scenes also make you understand why she is, who she is.
Most actors are decent. I was surprised to like 'Warrior Nun', because I'm not a fan of supernatural-like-shows. Only the really good ones have I seen trough. This one was really good.
Some loose ends here and there, but I forgave the writers because of the charm of the show.
