Mission: Impossible - Fallout (2018)
Best
Outstanding
The sixth installment of Mission Impossible franchise is the best from it . First of all movie has interesting plot with multiple layers with good depth in it and followed by good narrative . Previous movie had bit let down in narrative but this movie they rectified it . More than just showing they are telling us the details so as an audience we should listen to minute details to follow the story . Action sequences were totally insane , especially high altitude low opening stunt sequence , chasing part in Paris and climax Helicopter chase were exceptionally well made and well performed by Tom Cruise and his coordinates . Camera work was impressive especially using IMAX cam in HALO and climax sequence was visual treat .
Overall , Mission Impossible Fallout is best from the franchise . Eagerly waiting for the upcoming Dead Reckoning Part One to watch it on big screen .
Maamannan (2023)
Watchable flick
Maamannan started off with commendable first half followed by average second half . Plot and its depth in first half with character establishment was on the spot , especially interval block was total banger and literal high point of the whole movie . Second half mostly lacked in depth & high point and literally failed to create impact as first half did . In fact if we saw previous works of Mari Selvaraj climax portion or post climax create great impact upon audience , but here he missed that trick . Vadivelu just nailed it in his performance , real comeback of this man but totally in different Avatar . Fahad Faasil as antagonist was different vibe , even though if he plays simple villain role he somehow maintain the tension around his character . Udhay and Keerthi did their job well . Asusual Mari Selvaraj as director did great in his crafting , on other side well supported by Theni Eswar's camera work . AR Rahman once again delivered mind blowing background scores and songs .
Overall , despite some flaws and let down in second half its totally worth and watchable flick . Keep your expectations down .
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015)
Good
This time into the fifth installment of Mission Impossible franchise , started off Tom Cruise hanging out aircraft and pulling off one of the great stunts followed by six minutes underwater stunt sequence . Once again this movie filled with incredible action sequence with adrenaline rush , especially opera sequence were very well executed . Comparing to MI Ghost Protocol narration was bit let down in this part but covered by impressive action set pieces . Rebecca Ferguson good addition to the franchise .
Overall , 5th installment of Mission Impossible franchise filled with incredible stunts but could've done better in narrative .
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
Right into the action
Right from the start they took us into the mission . Started from Kremlin Russia to Mumbai India the movie didn't drop in a single place , maintained its pace and intriguing factor throughout the movie . Once again they did great in action sequence , especially Tom Cruise in Burj Khalifa sequence and climax parking lot sequence . This time techie part was interesting and very well used , especially Kremlin sequence gadgets were literally impressive . Brad Bird as director did a great job . Technically Camera work was impressive .
Overall , 4th installment of Mission Impossible franchise is a great treat to action fans , right from the first to end it never gets dull .
Vinland Saga (2019)
Masterpiece
Vinland Saga takes us into the unforgettable journey through violence , vengeance , war , politics , sorrow and pursuit of peace leaving us with a great impact . True strength of this anime lies in the powerful storytelling , with commendable characters and its character arcs . It's not an usual anime series and don't expect more action sequence , it's just pure drama with few good action sequences . Characters and their character development were exceptional , especially Thorfinn from vengeful warrior to seeker of redemption , very well written character , and not only him even the characters with less screen time leaving an impact among us . Dialogues were literally hard hitting and spot on enhances the drama with well composed adrenaline pumping sound track . Anime had some good action sequence , especially battles sequence in season 1 were very well choreographed with raw violence and gore delivering immersive visual
experience .
Overall , Vinland Saga is a pure masterpiece with its pure drama , commendable characters , well written dialogues and some immersive visual action sequence . Must watch anime series and kindly don't miss out to watch this .
Kimetsu no Yaiba (2019)
Phenomenal
Demon Slayer one of the extraordinary anime series and one of the standout aspect was stunning animation design and literally unique from other anime . World building was best , with well written memorable and deeply relatable characters . Reason for the characters to work , from protagonists to antagonists each have their own depressing and saddening back story which establish the emotional connect between characters and audience . Action sequences were very well written and crafted , especially the beats between the action really enhances the experience , delivering visually spectacle and nail biting moments . Some may feel repetitive in each season but topnotch narration completely covers it . Songs and background score were mind blowing , literally enhances the emotional and action sequence .
Overall , a phenomenal anime series with memorable characters , breathing taking visuals and emotionally charged storytelling . Highly recommended and kindly watch it on big screen .
Mission: Impossible III (2006)
Good improvement
A significant improvement from its previous movie . Mission Impossible 2 was bit disappointing comparing to its first part , but here MI 3 delivered a better experience . Major positive of the movie was antagonist character , even though the character had less screen time it had good impact and Philip Seymour did great in his character . Intriguing factor was well maintained throughout the movie , especially opening sequence was very well crafted and grabs right away our attentions . Asusual action sequence were really good and well choreographed . Once again Tom Cruise nailed in his action part and performance . Technically , this time editing was well done and camera work were impressive .
Overall , Mission Impossible 3 is better than its precursor , especially with good direction from J. J Abrams .
Extraction 2 (2023)
Insane
It's really good to see some of the recent sequels doing better than its precursor and this movie falls under this category . Extraction 1 was good but this one is so much better . This sequel had insane action sequence with good engaging factor . Plot was simplistic and straight as part 1 , but real magic lies in the action sequences especially 20 mins non stop adrenaline rush action was totally out of the park and choreography was on the spot ( I personally recommend you to mostly avoid the pausing between the action sequence to maintain the heat and nail biting vibe ) Except for Tyler and Nik other characters didn't standout well . Cast wise asusual Chris Hemsworth gave good performance and surprisingly Golshifteh Farahani did a great job in her action sequence . Technically , camera work , visuals and editing were great . Sound design were really good ( kindly try to watch it on good Sound system ) .
Overall , Extraction 2 is remarkable action movie and better than its precursor . Action genre fans are really gonna like it . Highly recommended . Kindly try to watch it on TV rather than Laptop or Mobile .
The Flash (2023)
Entertaining
After some long delays and many obstacles finally The Flash released on big screen , but wrong time . Relatable that most of us would've thought changing our past , same here Barry Allen aka Flash trying to change his past and what are the consequences he faced . After some great multiverse stuff from hollywood like No way home , Everything Everywhere All At Once and recently Across the Spiderverse really made this film bit less exciting despite good plot and decent narration . Major drawback here was horrible VFX and CGI work literally delivered a poor experience . Return of Michael Keaton's Batman were really exciting . Expected more from Supergirl but they underused her . Ezra Miller as The Flash delivered a good performance .
Overall , movie had potential to be great but falls under good and worth watchable . If you can digest the poor VFX and CGI work then give it a try .
Mission: Impossible II (2000)
Decent
Second installment of Mission Impossible franchise was a let down comparing to it's precursor . In most of the case it actually lacks the intriguing factor that was strong in first part . John Woo's making style was good , especially some cool slow motion shots but action set pieces were quite messy with below average editing . Visually , cinematography was great and well shot . Asusual Tom Cruise nailed in his action sequence , especially rock climbing sequence . Hans Zimmer's background scores were just awesome .
Overall , despite its flaws still decent and watchable one ...................
Por Thozhil (2023)
Gripping
Fascinating investigation thriller
Por Thozhil is a usual investigation thriller story where two cops on their mission to catch a serial killer , but has it's own uniqueness and well written screenplay . Script writing was on the point , right from the first shot they grab our attentions into the world of Por Thozhil and they never let down the intriguing factor till the end . Everything and every reference in the movie made sense , even small details never fails to pay off . Characters were well written especially Sarath Kumar as senior arrogant cop , on other side Ashok Selvan as junior chicken hearted cop , both their characters were neatly designed . Vignesh Raja's making was good , actually felt like a horror , some of the jumpscares worked well . Background scores were decent . Technically sounding good .
Overall , a gripping and intriguing investigation thriller to watch . As a fan of this genre I thought it may be cliche but it's completely surprised me with it's writing . This movie has a great potential to be a franchise , I hope they do it . Highly recommended and kindly watch it on big screen .
Mission: Impossible (1996)
Good start
First time into the World of Mission Impossible , the main reason to start watching this franchise was the day when I watched Top Gun Maverick on big , right after that I became a big fan of Tom Cruise . My current mission is to explore Tom Cruise's action genre and to finish MI movies right before its 7th installment . This first MI movie released back in 1996 , a usual spy thriller story with blend of murder mystery & heist , but predictable one , but still remains fresh and entertaining . First hour was really well made with good narration , especially into the vault scene were really nail biting . After that narration was slight let down . Action set pieces weren't that impressive but still decent . Tom Cruise asusual did great job first on other side Jon Voight also delivered a remarkable performance . Background scoring were good . Technically camera work were nicely handled .
Overall just into the world MI and this first installment remains fresh and entertaining eventhough it's 27 years old . Looking forward to watch it's sequels .
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Marvelous
Here we come another month with another marvel content . Spider-man Across the Spider-verse is another great milestone to the animation movies , visuals were incredibly cool and gorgeous with variety animation styles . This time sequel easily surpasses it's predecessor , narration was great , comparing to it's precursor this movie take some time to build story , establishing characters and some breathe moment rather than just jumping into one action sequence to another , this actually gives us the depth of the characters and stories . Once again many characters and many Spidermans comes across this movie , each had good scope and characterisation . Voice actors did a good job in dubbing . Action sequence were literally roller coaster ride with some goosebumps moments . Background scores were mind blowing . Sound department did a great job in sound designing .
Overall , a movie itself a great tribute and massive celebration for Spider-man and it's fans . Not only for marvel fans even general fans gonna like it . Highly recommended to watch it on big screen and experience the Spider-verse . Story isn't over yet , stage is now set up for "Beyond the Spider-verse" .
Good Night (2023)
Wholesome
Simple and sweet
Good Night is a well made feel good drama where the story revolves around man having snoring issue and how it's affecting his life . Main positive of the movie was right at the first shot it connects with audience by simply establishing middle class vibe . Characters were well written and relatable . Film was funny and laughable at same time emotional too . Cast did a great job , especially Manikandan and Ramesh Tilak combo was great . Sean Roldan music and songs were on the spot and well synced with the movie . Technically neat visuals and with good editing .
Overall , nothing complicated just simple , sweet and refreshing feel good drama to watch with your family and friends . Highly recommended , kindly give it a try , I hope you like it .
August 16 1947 (2023)
Intresting one liner
Story takes place in span of three days in an fictional village of pre independence India where they fail to receive the news of India's Independence . One liner was really good and had great potential , they did a decent job in utilizing this potential . Story building at first half was good following by emotional second half . Cast did a decent job in performance . Production design really need a good appreciation . Visually , cinematography was good .
Cons - Some of the long drawn sequence could've been easily trimmed off . They should've concentrated on some logical issues .
Overall , except for some logical issues and few flaws literally a good watch and worthable for your time . Give it a try .
Kimi no na wa. (2016)
Wholesome
Wholesome
I'm just new to Makoto Shinkai's filmography , just few weeks back watched Suzume and really delivered a heart warming experience . But heard that it's not upto Your Name movie in some of the reviews . Right after that they re-released Makoto Shinkai's filmography and I got a chance to watch Your Name on big screen . Anime on theater are totally a different level vibe . Your Name is a surreal mix of romance drama and fantasy , narration was quite mysterious and it was really hard to figure out what's the actual plot at first , but way they placed exciting twist and turns makes it more intresting , especially after long time saw a nail biting climax where as an audience we want lead pair to meet again and get together . Connecting the romance and cosmic phenomena was something unique . Characters were well written . Humor worked well in many places . Animation visuals were stunning with mind blowing sound track .
Overall , a wholesome romance fantasy to watch . Glad that I watched it on big screen .
2018 (2023)
Humanity
Pros - 2018 is a disaster - survival drama covers 2018 Kerala floods . Main positive of the movie was it's characters and casts , there were huge set of casts and each of them character arc's were well written , their emotion towards the situation and motive were very well potrayed . First half completely belongs to the story build up & character establishment and real story takes off in the second half . Jude Anthany's making style was good . Technical wise , cinematography was good and editing was odd in few places . Cast did a great job .
Cons - Screenplay could've been better in second half , eventhough the movie had intriguing factor it majorly missed the thrilling factor . Cliched and overdramatic in few places .
Overall , except for the missing thrill part , the movie was emotionally strong and intriguing . Expect a good emotional survival drama .
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
An enjoyable send off
Guardians of the Galaxy is on of a best trilogy from Marvel and its third installment is last direction from James Gunn for Marvel . I'm a big fan of James Gunn style of making , he is one of the few directors who can pull off fun and emotion simultaneously . Movie had good balance between action , comedy , emotion and drama , maintaining focus on the character and thier relationships . Plot prime focuses on Rocket Raccoon's origin , his flashback portions were totally heart breaking . Once again cast delivered a good performance . Action sequence were well choreographed and captured , especially climax sequence were literally great . Humor worked very well , especially Drax and Mantis combo were hilarious . Technically perfect , impressive camera works with topnotch VFXs delivers a bright and colorful stunning Visuals . Glad that Marvel rectified their VFXs issues . Good Bg score and pre 2k English songs were well placed in the movies .
Overall , hilariously and emotionally a good farewell to the trilogy . One of the best Marvel movie in recent times . Not only for Marvel fans , even general audience gonna like it . Highly recommended .
Suzume no Tojimari (2022)
Heartwarming
A heartwarming fantasy adventure .
First time watching a Makoto Shinkai's movie , glad that I watched it on big screen . Suzume is a well crafted fantasy road trip filled with fun , sorrow , emotional , thrill , doubts and undefinable relationships . Writing was impressive , with many well written memorable and lovable characters . Relationship between Suzume and Souta was different and something beyond romance . Animation visuals were literally cool and immaculate , on other side mind blowing background scores delivers a weird and surreal experience on big screen .
To be simple , kindly experience this movie on big screen , such a beautiful and heart warming experience . Highly recommended .
Ponniyin Selvan: Part Two (2023)
Good
Review from Non reader
Before getting into details , to be precise Ponniyin Selvan 1 and 2 are collection of well crafted standalone scenes put in an incoherent sequence .
Ponniyin Selvan 2 starts off with a beautiful romance sequence between teenage Aditha Karikalan and Nandini , reminding us of Maniratnam's trademark style . Movie continues the story from the prequel and revealing the unanswered questions behind the Nandini's character . First half was good and exhausting as same time , the narrative just jumps from one good scene to another good scene but majorly missed the connectivity between them , this kind of narrative really needed good attention from the audience . Same goes to Second half , but irrelevant climax war sequence and unsatisfying conclusion slightly pulls down the second half . This time characters which had less scope in part 1 had better scope in this and at sametime missed some characters that had better scope on part 1 . Performance wise casts did their part very well . Cinematography was great , with good color grading , delivers a granduer visuals . Production design were topnotch . ARR Bhai asusual gave terrific composition , this time except one or two songs other songs weren't that noticeable but somehow contributes sub consciously . These technical aspects were really better than first part and elevates the theatrical experience .
Overall , it's understandable that concising a five parts novel into a two parts movie is an insane task but still Maniratnam and his team did a good job . If you really liked PS1 then definitely don't miss out to watch PS2 because it's better than it's prequel in many aspects .
Yaathisai (2023)
Good attempt
Good attempt
First of all appreciation to the whole team for this attempt . Yaathisai is a historical fiction that takes place in 7th century and had great potential . Dharani Rajendran in his debut did a great job in his writing , we can easily notice that they did a great research work , for example Einar clan's slang of Tamil was totally different and you can only understand the their dialogues with the help of subtitles . War sequences were well shot and well edited despite minimal graphics and minimal crowd . Major drawback of the movie was budget constraints , it draws a line between the audience and movie because most of the scenes fails to convey or register what's going on , just felt like bunch of scenes tied up together . Performance wise Cast did decent job . Cinematography and visuals were really good and eye pleasing on big screen . Music could've been better .
Overall , with good budget , better cast and better making this film could've been something spectacular in Indian cinema but yet good attempt with minimal resources . Watchable one .
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Bloodbath
Bone Chilling horror thriller
I didn't watch any previous installments from this franchise .
An absolute blood carnage , started off with a jaw dropping opening sequence . Story building took minimal time to establish its characters and done a decent job in it . After that movie gets into crazy mode with blood splattering , bone breaking and flesh ripping horror ride . Lee Cronin did a great job as director and writer . Performance wise , Alyssa Sutherland delivered a terrific performance . Technical aspects , cinematography was good with some insane camera angles , practical blood gore effects were totally bonkers with good blend of VFX . SFXs ( sound effects ) were topnotch and delivers a good theater experience .
Overall , 1hr 40mins of clear and crisp raw gore horror movie to watch . Eventhough you haven't watched any previous installments from this franchise you can definitely give it a try because it's acts good standalone movie too .
The Mandalorian (2019)
Mando !
This is the way
Pros - The Mandalorian Released right before the release of "The Rise of Skywalker" , it's actually redeemed the Star Wars franchise after the disastrous sequel trilogy . Story takes place at a timeline after the events of "Return of the Jedi" , in reign of the New Republic . Din Djarin aka Mando takes guardianship of the child ( Grogu ) on his way to adventures missions . Narrative was well paced , with great set up ( western genre in star wars backdrop ) and well written characters with good performance from cast . This series deep dive into the star wars universe , explores different conflicts that takes places in those vast galaxy . Technical wise , Visuals were exciting especially practical effects were well used in many places and great CGI & VFX work too . Background scores were really cool and well composed .
Cons - Comparing to season 1 & 2 , season 3 lacks in it's consistency especially 3rd act was totally rushed . Hope they do better in Season 4 .
Overall , Jon Favreau and his team did a great job , a well written and well crafted Star Wars series . Yes Season 3 was slightly off the track comparing to it's previous seasons , but still entertaining and watchable .
Mumbai Mafia: Police vs the Underworld (2023)
Mafia
Documentary gives us the brief insight into the world of 90s Mumbai Mafia and police encounters to neutralize the organized crime syndicate . Unbiased view towards the issue was the major positive of the documentary , at first it explores the rise of D Company and how cruel they were , which caused chaos in streets of Mumbai , to neutralize them cops chose the violence in which they ended up exploiting their authority , same time it shows how annoying and opportunistic the media are . Docu mostly shows the cops side of the story and how they became heroes of the country by encountering the criminals and at end how they became villians for there fake encounters .
Overall , documentary discusses the known incidents and facts that took place in two decades in 1hr 30mins . If you have less idea about the D Company crime syndicate and police encountering that took place in 90s and early 2ks of Mumbai then kindly give it a try . Worth watching .
Argentina, 1985 (2022)
Solid
Solid historical court room drama
Story inspired from the true events that took place on 1980s in Argentina , where after the restoration and newly formed democratic government appoints prosecutor Julio Cesar Strassera and his assistant deputy prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo to led the trial against the military dictatorship which pushed Argentina into the chaos for almost ten years . This was called as "Trial of the Juntas" , first trial against the military dictatorship . Movie explores how the prosecutors led the investigation against the dangerous officials with the help of young and inexperienced legal team , struggles and threats went through by the witnesses , lawyers and their families during the process . It was really heart wrenching while hearing the testimonies of the victims and witnesses . Direction and Narration were true to the life . Film take us right into the period of 1980s Argentina , appreciation for the great production design . Visuals were authentic , captured in 4:3 ratio and color grading was good . Cast done a great job with their performance .
Overall , if you're interested in history or court room drama then kindly give it a try and of course you should've bit patience to watch , but finally pays off with the sense of satisfaction at the end .
