The Exorcist: Believer (2023)
Did this franchise need to be remembered? No. but... remains forgotten
Seriously, someone needs to stop David Gordon Green, even though I give him a 5, he needs to stop... (and I don't agree with the horrible ratings for this film).
Yes, he is boring. Yes, he is extremely forgettable. Yes, he doesn't have good performances... but he is a film in The Exorcist franchise, whether we like it or not.
Not agreeing is different from "not understanding" the horrible reviews that are barely more than 1. Yes, if I were a big fan of the first film, I would be extremely angry, because... this is just another mediocre horror film compared to original masterpiece. William Friedkin must be turning in his grave right now. (RIP, bless you for not having to see that!)
The script is still bad and cliche, even though it contains interesting ideas. Here the film's focus is only on mediocrity... the mediocrity of generic films. That thing that makes viewers like you and me have the horrible feeling of indifference.
I think my only compliment will be on the practical makeup, which is done in most of the scenes, where all of this is present. (As for the downside of this compliment, it's that there are few moments with CGI... even though it's little, it's rubbish. It's clearly poorly done, it looks like Playstation 3 graphics XD)
In short: if you're a big fan of The Exorcist, see it in the cinema... (Even though I already know that as an acid fan, you'll hate it... I still believe it's worth it).
Other than that, it's better not to watch it and pretend that this film never existed (Not because it's horrible, in fact, because it's INDIFFERENT). Or watch it when you have nothing to do, there's a movie that will become a classic to watch while you take a nap.
THE BIGGEST MISTAKE HERE IS BRINGING CHRIS MACNEIL BACK!!
The Creator (2023)
A Star Wars film, with the style of The Last Of Us!
The film addresses a well-commented and discussed topic: the learning of AI machines.
Star Wars clearly influenced this film and, honestly, the production doesn't disguise this at all. Mainly with the choice of director (Rogue One), which makes the viewer notice this and think about the similarity of the works... The Last Of Us also seems to have influenced the project, thanks to the father x daughter relationship that seems very Joel and Ellie.
The film has an interesting and eye-catching story, which appeals and manages to catch my attention with its narrative. Unfortunately, its ending is predictable and a big cliché is present throughout its conclusion.
The director seems to choose to focus more on the art direction than on any other aspect, as the world of this film is so "alive" that I can even compare it to James Cameron's vision in Avatar.
As for acting?
I was indifferent, because at times the actors are both good and bad, they never stand out... but for me, the one who deserves the spotlight here is a secondary character, Drew, who is played by Sturgill Simpson. Still, the protagonists don't bother me.
My main criticism, apart from the clichés and poor plot, is that the film's budget could have been used much better. This way they would be spent on different aspects that were overlooked compared to others, making a more immersive and, consequently, more fun film.
It's an exciting story with good moments of comedy, one of the classics and great for the family. I would say the ticket is worth it, but my real opinion? It's a film that you can safely pass by without watching, despite presenting some really cool ideas... it's not really what it "promises" to be in the plot.
Sound of Freedom (2023)
Extremely... Incredible... and Extreme
The film begins to move forward little by little, building the strongest and most disturbing events slowly, giving the viewer the right time to assimilate and reflect on all the controversial issues present in the film.
Its narrative clearly romanticizes the real story, in the classic fictional Hollywood style (but still, it's a positive point, as the more this style = the more public).
The cast, especially Jim Caviezel and Bill Camp, surprise the entire film, completely stealing the show, always, with each appearance on screen!
The film is extremely realistic and heavy, with a heavy dialogue, which makes everything more serious and emotional, especially when it comes from the character of Bill Camp, as he is simply sensational with his lines!
I love the fact that the film is more focused on the shock and reflection aspect, rather than on the action... here the action is still present, but it is completely ignored. Only appearing briefly (but epically) at its beginning and end.
Reflection is what controls this film. With each act, several questions arise in the minds of those who watch and the shocks that move us, make everyone more apprehensive with each heavier and scarier/disgusting scene involving children, as well as human trafficking in general.
This is not a message to be ignored, so I say, the criticism is wrong this time! The film is wonderful and should be watched in the cinema, as it is more than worth it!
(Again, we have very heavy scenes here, I don't agree with the age rating, but yes, it should at least be one of 16 or even 18. Be careful with children and teenagers or people with weak minds/stomachs when watching !)
The Nun II (2023)
Better than the first one... and this mean NOTHING.
This is another film that could be included in the dictionary under the word "mediocrity";
my biggest surprise during the film is seeing Storm Reid in this film, she is a talented actress full of great work... so:
HOW DID SHE END UP IN THIS GARBAGE?
Michael Chaves returns to a boring, cliche and confusing direction. Honestly, I feel like just a scene lasting a few seconds ended up having hundreds of cuts with camera changes, IT'S VERY CONFUSING AND WEIRD! YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT HAPPENS IN THE SCENE!
Without giving spoilers, the only good reason to watch this film is its post-credits scene, which lasts just a few seconds. (the duration this haunting should have).
My biggest regret about watching it at the cinema (apart from the money spent) was holding back the laughter, sometimes the cliche and "scares" of this story make it seem like a comedy. I can say that my room had less than ten people and they were all struggling to hold back their laughter.
Verdict?
I laughed several times, slept quickly twice and went to the bathroom four times to avoid seeing this... this thing.
Only watch if you are a big fan of the universe. Still, see when it comes out on streaming, etc.
(If you expect to see horror, give up. There are NO scares!)
Gran Turismo (2023)
Rock-On and drive, Baby!
The film, which seemed to be more of a racing generic, proved to be completely the opposite. And in my opinion, it only loses to Ford vs. Ferrari in that genre.
The protagonist's performance is the weakest point of this great film, but it is compensated by the AMAZING PERFORMANCE of David Harbor and Orlando Bloom!!
Black Sabbath on the soundtrack was the best surprise for me, it really came out of nowhere and it was great to hear amazing music in this amazing movie. For sure the compositions of Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne, Bill Ward and Geezer Butler bring an adrenaline over the scene that has your band playing!
It's a great movie, with great racing scenes. Great script and direction.
+ a perfect soundtrack!
It's a spectacular film, especially knowing that you and your whole family can enjoy this story in the cinema. Watch on the big screen!
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023)
A family of mutants that makes you laugh.
This is one of those animations that pleases everyone, from a 5-year-old to a 15-year-old teenager, a 35-year-old adult and a 75-year-old.
The story can be minimally complex for the little ones, but in itself, it is extremely fun and brings some interesting reflections throughout its plot. Both in the original language and in the dubbing (Brazilian Portuguese), the voices and their slang are perfectly matched to the characters, what a perfect cast! Only the jokes with references to PT-BR, made me laugh more than I should.
Mr. Spilnter is a little left out, but nothing that bothers him. What bothers you is that some drama cliches are present in your character. However, only in him... (which I find strange, as the story of the film is not predictable).
I thought changing April's ethnicity was just another way to cash in on diversity, but it doesn't seem like that, and yes, I like this version of the character.
The movie is amazing for those idiots whose middle school jokes still occupy their mind! Did I describe you?
Watch it in the cinema right away!
Blue Beetle (2023)
Another Super-Meh movie...
Really? With each passing film, I agree more and more with Martin Scorsece's critique of superhero movies.
Sometimes it gets tired and this movie was one of the few that made me sleep a little in the cinema, I'm already tired of projects with the same scripts, by God, THERE'S NEVER ANYTHING NEW!!
I simply summarize the film with: decent CGI and Cobra Kai's "Miguel Diaz" acts well, as does the beautiful Brazilian girl.
Bruna Marquezine? I hope to be a more famous Brazilian name like Wagner Moura in the future.
...Rotten Tomatoes is completely mad with the reviews for this thing!!! For real, its time to make good super-hero movies.
Talk to Me (2022)
Things Got Out Of Hand!
I would love to start writing about positives, but I won't:
- I start by saying that the critics exaggerate the rating of this film, it is nothing more than a good film, it is not special and its script is cliche, just one of thousands of other horror films. (so much so that I guessed the whole story and its plot-twist in a very short time...)
I love being able to say that the entire cast blew me away with outstanding performances and that I'm as proud as it is full of hope to think that some of the names in this film will go on to have hot careers in Hollywood.
The direction has great camera games at the time of terror, but in itself, we clearly don't see anything new in it, I would even say that it is very inspired by the style of M. Night Shyamalan...
As for violence? Don't worry, few scenes of misfortunes happen on the screen... but the few, sometimes they are too much. I do not recommend to those with a weak stomach.
Even though it's not something special, I had fun with this cliché horror and it has good acting, so that's what matters! And I'm excited for news of a prequel or sequel, it seems to be an idea with the possibility of having a great universe to explore.
Asteroid City (2023)
By Wes Anderson. a metaphor of... aliens?
A boring movie for a boring little town,
in other words: immersive and well built.
The script ties the story together in an excellent way and it was great to see that Wes Anderson's characteristic "weird" style is still present in this film.
Despite the cast having good performances and big names, it has its mistakes, so much so that I don't remember meeting some of the actors who were announced in its cast, the film has a big problem with screen time for the characters, and consequently, takes away the opportunity for his actors to shine in the scenes.
The art direction surprised me, leaving me confused at times, but in itself, the movie is fun and the duration time is pretty nice.
I don't recommend watching with kids though, but teens? The perfect audience!
Oppenheimer (2023)
"Now i have become Death. The destroyer of worlds"
Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen:
CHRISTOPHER NOLAN REACHED PERFECTION!
The film is the masterpiece of art that cinema tends to be only on rare occasions. One of the rare occasions was on Interstellar, but here... here it went beyond. This is the purest perfection Nolan has achieved.
Is a film that will revolutionize cinema, as will almost all films by the same director. The script is amazing, perfect! Makes 3 hours of film feel like 5 minutes!
The performances are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G, even from the lead to the extra, everyone in the film deserves the biggest spotlight. My prediction, which will probably be correct, is that Oppenheimer will be the frontrunner for the next Oscar. The performance of everyone in the project brings immersion and many different compliments.
The art and sound direction, then, doesn't just deserve applause, they deserve an entire orchestra of celebrations to them!
I've already convinced myself that Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh and Robert Downey Jr. Will be the Oscar winners for best actor, actress and supporting actor.
The film revolutionizes, animates, excites...
this is art. This is cinema.
...that's Christopher Nolan.
Barbie (2023)
Hey Twitter, lets go party!
Sorry for the title, militants, please don't cancel me! (seriously, jokes aside)
While the movie is good, I anticipate a lot of memes about overblown cancellations, prejudice, and patriarchy... which I think get a lot of attention from the script. More than was needed.
The movie is fun and has great performances, hats off to Margot Robbie, but, Ryan Gosling and Simu Liu's Kens stole every scene. The rest of the acting and cast is just fine, I don't believe I've seen a single bad performance.
For a particularly comedy film, I feel like my session lacked laughs. Throughout the film, I laugh in very few scenes, but I also understand that they are directed at children and so on. (ignoring the last part, there are some jokes with double meanings, nothing that children would understand, watch it calmly with the little ones!)
...but I have to admit, the movie didn't get me. Actually, it was one of the few times that I almost fell asleep in the cinema. This time, me and my company, we yawned so much that we started to cry from sleep, but we didn't pass out. The reason i'm writing this last part is because i can understand the 1/10 and the 10/10 reviews... it just hits people in different ways. The only bad thing this movie did is make me sick of the color pink. Seriously, the theater was packed with people wearing only pink. Even suits and formal wear, I know it's because of the memes... but things get out of hand ,_,
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
who is John Wick compared to Ethan Hunt?
Without further ado:
THE BEST ACTION MOVIE OF THE YEAR. PROBABLY THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN!
And indeed, let me tell you, of all things in the movie business... Tom Cruise himself is the craziest thing about it!
With a spectacular performance and his incredible decision to always make the scenes practically and without CGI, makes this film more perfect than it already is.
With great characters, an extremely incredible story and PERFECT action scenes, that's what I experienced watching this masterpiece.
The action scenes besides being perfect, they can only have one definition:
Uncharted.
Yes!
The film's scenes look just like those of the Uncharted game franchise, and that's a great hit!
It really feels like a crazy Nathan Drake adventure at times, with the craziest stunts!
Excited for part 2 and more future films in the Mission Impossible franchise.
Without discussion, it is definitely an experience that must be seen in Cinema.
(and also, aaaaaah man, THAT SOUNDTRACK!)
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023)
Indiana Jones and The "Meh" Movie
Well, it was something...
this movie was something.
Definitely something unnecessary for the Indiana Jones franchise.
Definitely something with extremely long duration.
Definitely something with mediocre acting.
Oh, good god... where did my handsome childhood archaeologist hero end up...
I'm really in doubt if this or the fourth movie is the worst of the franchise, as bad as the previous one is, the more I think about this one, the more I hate it.
I'm really trying to find good points in this movie other than these two:
1- Harrison Ford. (self-explanatory why it's good, right? It's FU**ING HARRISON FORD!)
and also,
2- the phenomenal and classic music composed by the genius that is John Williams.
...
Mangold's direction let me down, I was really expecting something with Spielberg's change...
but it fails, like most of this film.
Honestly, apart from the most faithful fans of the character, this movie is not worth the ticket to the cinema.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
Hits Harder Than A Webshot!
Miles Morales, the one and only Spider-Man...
of course not!
The movie has PERFECT animation, with the best and most varied traits, in an incredibly fluid and full of life way.
References and easter-eggs for Spidey fans are everywhere!
That is, the film is also perfect in fan service ...
In its plot, we learn a great question of what is right and wrong with arachnids.
And even with little participation, Mayday Parker is TOO CUTE. (not a spoiler, the baby is in the trailer)
Anyway, compliments to the voice acting and soundtrack, nothing I'm going to point out mistakes, I'd say that things about them can be improved... but the way they are, they're great!
Still (2023)
The Man Who Stands Unshaken
Michael J. Fox's story is incredible, I had already noticed this fact with his book and interviews, but this movie broke me emotionally.
While it's so unfair and so glorious to see him have Parkinson's and always come out on top, it shows what an incredible fighter this man is.
In my opinion, the greatest actor of all time.
He is Marty Mcfly, Alex P. Keaton. He is one of the men who has fought Parkinson's hardest in all his years with the disease, a symbol of hope for people who have also fallen ill.
He now needs to follow the life he conquered, the great Hollywood actor who unfortunately fell into the clutches of the disease.
The sheer sense of happiness he exudes in the film makes him look like he's a guy over five feet tall.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
The Sky Was Really Beautiful...
James Gunn, you are the person that will be missed the most at Marvel and I can already say that DC will be perfect with you in charge, because you, my good man, only make MASTERWORKS!
Guardians of the Galaxy 3 is one of the best MCU movies, I just watched it and I'd say it's already in my TOP 3 of best hero movies, the movie conveys different feelings from laughing to crying. The soundtrack remains perfect, fulfilling the "tradition" of guardians' films being perfect in terms of music.
The closure of these arcs and characters in the MCU was incredible and exciting to see, I already feel that the Marvel universe is going to change completely without some of the most charismatic people present in it.
Dave Bautista and Chris Pratt you are my heroes for those brilliant performances!
Well, i'm going to miss you in these movies, james gunn. Good luck commanding your ship wherever you go besides Marvel. Thank you for this incredible trilogy of these Guardians of the Galaxy.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
That movie was... GROOVY!
I quickly start by saying: THIS IS THE BEST HORROR MOVIE OF 2023 SO FAR.
God, the screams in the theater didn't seem to end, every few moments it was more and more screams of pure fear/disgust.
And speaking of disgust, HOLY ****, this movie is really gross in some scenes man!
Sincerely, my congratulations to Lee Cronin and his scary direction full of references to the classic Evil Dead films.
I'm definitely going to the cinema as many times as necessary to enjoy all the horror present there... it's perfect that the film is basic, this is the main skeleton of Evil Dead: a group of people trapped in one place fighting against evil and the book of the dead.
I LOVED the script a family in the story, and it just got better and better as the movie went on. Jesus, kids are usually known for not acting well, BUT HERE THEY PUT A SHOW!
And of course, there are the classic horror movie cliches: possessed vomiting, gunshots go wrong, maggot kiss between possessives... but they are amazing put in this movie! I didn't bother with these cliches, I even liked what I was seeing even more
...
watch this gory masterpiece in the cinema right now, I'm sure it will have you screaming along with everyone in the room...
as Ash Williams would say about this film:
- GROOVY!
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)
kinda cliche but extremely fun; like the game's campaigns!
As a D&D fan, this movie was a gift to me. And I love a certain cameo that happens quickly!
Most of the cast give great performances, but to my disappointment, who I expected to shine... doesn't; I dare say: Sophia Lillis does not act well in this film.
In terms of cliches, they are all present in Chris Pine's character, they don't get to be annoying but they are clearly there to help the story create a slightly forced development. Something classic from an 80s-90s scripted drama, you'll see what I'm talking about when you watch it.
Other than that, the movie just has hit after hit!
The story as much as it has cliches, it works and extremely fun. The comedic tone of this film is perfect, I am proud to say that I laughed out loud in the movie theater.
I like to say and confirm that the script did a great job involving the entire D&D universe in the project, as I watched it with relatives who had never heard of the game or cartoon and well... just knowing it to be a "Medieval Fantasy"; they loved it!
For those who expected a big dose of Led Zeppelin in the soundtrack like me... sorry to inform you, but the epic rocks are only in the trailers :(
... I strongly recommend watching it at the cinema, it is definitely an experience that will be worth your ticket.
Air (2023)
one more reason to make it clear that Michael Jordan is eternal.
"Air Jordan"
that summed it all up and then some. It's a good movie, with good acting. If you're a fan of the greatest basketball player of all time, watch the movie. Like, at the next session, at the nearest movie theater. Stop everything you do, and go!
For non-sport laypeople or anything like that, the movie is worth seeing, but my view: Okay, no big deal.
I didn't see big mistakes, but I saw few successes that deserve to be highlighted.
...nice. Go watch only if you want, in my opinion, just a movie that you will watch in the comfort of your home, whenever you want and with whom you want. One of the classic movies that would be great to watch while spending the afternoon on some random tv channel.
65 (2023)
well there are dinosaurs... that's good, right?
And that's it. OMG, that looks so cool... dinosaurs... asteroids... yay.
I SLEPT IN THE CINEMA AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE.
The only thing I saw on the big screen was Adam Driver having an accident in a UFO and that was it, the rest of the movie I watch in the comfort of home on my computer. And I wanted to go back in time, to stop myself from wasting my time watching this!
If I wanted to see 2 characters with father x daughter dynamics, in a situation of chaos running away from things that want to kill them, I WOULD WATCH THE LAST OS US!
Boring, uninteresting and slow. A disappointment, because the trailer showed an atmosphere that I loved, but well... the only thing is... huh, dinosaurs? "father and daughter"?
Come on, there are more movies to watch at the cinema; go see anything else, even if it's a documentary, I promise it will be more interesting.
The Fabelmans (2022)
A Love Letter From An Artist, To Others Like Him
I go simple and direct. This beautiful and emotional film has only 2 flaws, and one of them doesn't even bother me that much: Its Duration and the character Monica (Chloe East); Spielberg shows once again why he is one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema, his script is a bit lacking in the part that involves a pet (let's say, not common) and the Fabelmans in a complicated relationship between love and hate, but God, what a perfect cast that is the Fableman family performs! As of now, I clearly see the next ones having a rise in Hollywood, outside of the acquaintances, I see future success in: Michael LaBelle, Julie Butters and Keeley Karsten. The whole family acts wonderfully and with pride, I say, it's perfect. I cried, I just cried with The Last Of Us game and series when it involved something unreal to be sad about, but this movie made me shed tears... the reason? - Love. The love that Spielberg shows in directing this film is contagious, from the first scene the filmmaker's less arduous fans already realize that it will be his personal story for the big screen, that's what touched me, because this man grew up in the business and still does It showcased its history in a beautiful way. This movie should have won more Oscars, more awards, been nominated more. I won't say it's Spielberg's masterpiece, just Jurassic Park, Jaws and ET... because those are perfect classics for everyone. But The Fabelmans, it's not perfect for everyone. He's perfect for Spielberg, an artist making art, who shows his target audience to be artists. Personally, Steven Spielberg's best film of his entire career.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods (2023)
The Best Comedy From DC... but only in DC
Fun and good for the family, a supers movie that doesn't bore and goes fast. I love the decision to enhance more of the character of Jack Dylan Grazer, because I believe that his acting and comedy perfectly match the movies that are the hero Shazam, even more than Zachary Levi!
The best part of this script are the jokes, but even though it is a simple and generic script, it fulfills its role exactly as Black Adam. Film time goes by very quickly and it was really good to see that this year DC will start with a great film, I believe it to be the best comedy among the superhero genre, at the level of Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor Ragnarok or Peacemaker. If you are someone who loves these movies and series, go to the cinema immediately because you will not be disappointed!
(Hey Steve, can you write like this in a... formal way? It's a film review after all, I'm almost a filmmaker! But seriously Steve, write this straight)
- Just to give a smile to readers who have already seen the movie!
Missing (2023)
what...? what...? WAIT, WHAT!?
At the moment, the best thriller of the year.
The plot is INCREDIBLE and makes you create the most diverse theories every 5 minutes of the movie, I know that because, oh god! I think in those 2 hours, I managed to have at least 100 different theories.
The cast is extremely perfect, only with Storm Reid, he gets more amazing than he already is. Amazing how every little detail of the script is thought extremely well to always be used in the plot...
by the way, I loved being a really realistic movie with the internet at one point, I even managed to catch myself in a small reflection for a few minutes. I love the investigative personality that Reid's character: June has during the film. (for those who watched it will understand that the Smart-Watch joke is incredible! Hahaha)
Ever wondered why she's missing?
Because the surprise of the film awaits you in these incredible 2 hours!
Creed III (2023)
No Rocky? No problem, we have CREED!
To be honest, I expected that the film would be bad without Stallone involved, but in addition to knowing how to act, the dear Michael B. Jordan has just proven that he can direct!
I think the film has only one weakness / bad point which is the lack of emotion and momentum that is carried into the final fight, I feel that in Rocky Balboa films, this theme was exceptional and made us excited like crazy to see the battle end, even knowing the result. I feel that this movie fails to convey that feeling. Otherwise the film is great, the performance of B. Jordan and Majors as the villain of the plot and his enmity are incredible, just pearls in acting, directing and writing!
The franchise showed that it still has life to give, and I hope that the future of that life brings Adonis Creed's daughter to the ring!! A fun movie, special with the family or with those funny friends.
