AndiThomsen's rating
This film is just magic! It's a marvelous adaption of a fairy tale with great actors (most of all Safrankova in the lead), beautiful photography and a lovely musical score. The Aschenputtel ("Cinderella") story includes some neat changes compared to the classic Brother's Grimm tale which all add to a wonderful movie. I wish there would be more enjoyable, timeless and innocent films like this. It may have been made for children, but it's worth a watch for everyone from 4 to 100. As said before, it's on German TV every Christmas - in 2005 it aired about eleven times on different channels. A must-see for every fan of fairy tale and romance.
Wolfgang Petersen ("Das Boot") directed several TV movies of the classic German "Tatort" series, including Nastassja Kinski's breakthrough performance in 1977. This one from 1972 may appear a little slow at the start but step by step the different characters and stories get together and offer good entertainment. It's really done very professionally with top performances, especially from the beautiful Ingeborg Schöner in a dual role. The plot deals with two young and sexy women found death at the beach of Sylt in the span of just a few days. First you may think it's one of those crime stories where the audience knows the murderer from the beginning but everything turns out to be a little different. In addition to its nice twists the movie is so 70s that every fan of this decade should find it worth watching just for its "Zeitgeist" feeling.
This movie is so bad it isn't even worth to be commented. But in hope that maybe I can keep only one single person from watching it I have to write something about it. First: If anyone in any other job made such a horrid decision Diaz and Applegate (whom I both really like to watch normally) made with starring in this terrible piece of nothing he/ she would be fired at once. The "jokes" don't work, the script is lousy and the whole thing is annoying. I'm surely one to enjoy some naughty stuff it it's well acted and actually funny but in this case you really feel ashamed yourself just because you're watching it. If Cameron and Christina some time really make it into the "serious actress" category all they can do is pray that nobody ever confronts them with the "penis song" scene. Any actress with real standards would have walked off the set but money sometimes is everything. Why not make a fool of yourself if you get some millions for doing so? Do yourself a favour and don't watch this one - especially when you're an admirer of Selma Blair. In each and every scene she's in she's got to forget all her professional standards in case she's ever had some. (This may sound harsh but actually she's got to do some of the most tasteless "funny" scenes you can expect for a first-class production you expect this one to be because of the big names involved in it.) 0 points for this one. It's awful, boring and pitiful.
