Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds are perfect as Anne and Wentworth, and the supporting cast are excellent. The 2007 version starring Sally Hawkins and Rupert Penty-Jones has its moments, but takes too many liberties with the script and some of the casting is weak. It's difficult to overstate just how bad this movie is. It may well be a form of entertainment, but Jane Austin's 'Persuasion' it ain't. Check out the 1995 or 2007 versions if you want to see something approaching what the novel is all about. This is just a silly, soulless mess.
Don't waste your time. Life's too short.
