Gajok X Melo (2024)
Light hearted family drama
Today my fav kdrama since last month come to an end
'Romance in the house'
It's a light-hearted, rom-com, family drama.
It's about family reunion and second chances. Don't get fool with English title. Here romance meant to be love between family.
Well, main story is about older couple who got divorced due to circumstances, later how they get back together but younger couple also has it's own slow-steady journey towards romance.
We can see many relationship dynamics between Father-daughter, Mother-daughter, father-son, friends, colleagues, neighbours, siblings n lovers.
Other side characters also has their own story which is good. Characters developed with each passing episode.
Few serious scenes turned into hilarious in no time. Drama has some melodious OSTs.
In the end, characters choose modern approach towards life, parents supporting children in what they want to do in life, deciding not to get married, staying single n enjoying life for ourselves etc.
Many viewers has complaint with NaEun and her character MiRae but as per my POV her acting n character developed in each passing episode.
I found my new Oppa, my new source of pleasure Choi MinHo aka TaePyeong. He get to play various shades of TaePyeong compared to his previous acting gigs. Very endearing to watch on screen, looking forward to his next work/ drama.
Considering both NaEun n MinHo are idols turned into Actors, I gave them fair chance. They done pretty good job, yes there's always a scope for improvement. I'll miss my Tae-Mi for sure. I expected to see something more for Tae-Mi in last episode nevertheless drama has happy ending.
Amudo Eobsneun Supsokeseo (2024)
Frustrating
It's a physiological suspense thriller.
Initially story runs on two timelines, constantly back and forth. Viewers started to make connections between these two stories only to find out there's not much connection. It's just to drag the series upto 8 episodes.
Till then story runs slow burn and it gets frustrating. Antagonist is so freaking psycho, everything happens as per her convenience and each time she get away with it. No one takes any action.
You started questioning why is protagonist bearing all this.
Many plotholes, stupid characters takes stupid decisions. One police is missing but no one remembers
Anyway, though story is like this,
No problem with performances,
Go Min-si performed psycho killer amazingly, that you want to kill her.
Others are good, amazing production design, cinematography.
It's for suspense thriller lovers, get ready to be frustrated.
Nunmuleui yeowang (2024)
Fan service for Kim Soo-hyun & Kim Ji-won fans
Finished another kdrama
'Queen of Tears'
It's a romantic family drama.
The couple who are not on good terms, get their marriage on track, they and their families reconcile like never before. This suppose to be promising story but drama follows the clichés after first few humorous episodes.
Drama has stellar cast, who deliver strong performances throughout the show. The series filled with visually appealing aesthetic, designer outfits and stylish sets. However, the narrative falters in the later episodes.
The drama suppose to be a tearjerker but I hardly get emotional. Though I enjoyed storyline of other supporting characters. It is a good drama for Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won fans. Best fan service but for others it's passable. Drama name should be 'King of tears' due to amount of tears Kim Soo-hyun shed in this drama.
Amar Singh Chamkila (2024)
Imtiaz did it again
It's a biographical drama.
A humble singer's brash, vulgar lyrics ignite fame and fury across Punjab as he grapples with soaring success and brutal criticism before his untimely death.
Good, well researched screenplay by Imtiaz Ali and Sajid Ali which captivates audience till the end,
no dull moment.
Story runs in flashback through different characters POV, but nothing confusing at all.
Editing is top notch, narration is presented in animation, split screens as well, for non-punjabis, hindi meaning is provided on screen which is helpful to understand.
Chamkila's original lyrics are way to bold, Daljit and Parineeti sung it live on camera, which gives an authentic feel.
Daljit dazzled in the lead role, all the actors supported well, Parineeti is endearing. Music & bgm by A R Rehman is amazing.
All in all, Imtiaz did it again.
Baipan Bhari Deva (2023)
Good woman oriented movie
Finally I watched this recent marathi blockbuster.
It's a woman oriented family entertainer.
Six estranged sisters decide to take part in a Mangalgauri competition, and reunite. They must overcome their past and face their struggles head-on.
Writer Vaishali Naik and Director Kedar Shinde surely know how to make a relatable, well-connected movie for ladies. Story deals with different problems such as health, relationship, financial, psychological problems women face in their lives. Though some characters are well written, some not. Casting is perfect for leads, they are well-known for their acting chops. Manglagauri dance performance in the climax smartly picturized. I find myself overwhelmed at the end.
Shinobi no Ie: House of Ninjas (2024)
Pretty good
Yesterday finished binging
Japanese Action drama
'House of Ninjas'
Years after retiring from their formidable ninja lives, a dysfunctional family must return to shadowy missions to counteract.
Pretty good storytelling, they focussed more on family dynamics, action is as per story's requirement not just mindless action, which is good part. Action scenes are pretty slick. Performances are okay, music feels out of place in my scenes that's the only drawback for me.
There are loopholes here and there. End suggested, it will come up with second season. All in all, pretty enjoyable action thriller.
Kaala Paani (2023)
Not an easy watch
It's a survival drama.
When a mysterious illness descends upon the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, a desperate fight for survival collides with a race
to find a cure.
Well written story, screenplay and characters. Cinematography is good. Everyone performed well.
Mona Singh in 1st episode is 1st class, good to see Ashutosh Gowarikar as an actor, Sukant Goel n Vikas Kumar done exceptional job. Amey Wagh is as always good specially in the last episode, when he realized, he is in love, that was hilarious.
This series is drak, ominous and not an easy watch. I think, it'll come back with 2nd season.
Nae Nampyeongwa Gyeolhonhaejweo (2024)
Good one
It's a fantasy revenge drama about
a woman who witnesses the affair between her best friend and her husband, and is murdered by them, she goes back in time to change her future and seek revenge.
This kdrama is also based on webtoon. (This has became new trend), but as per webtoon readers, makers have done some changes.
You get invested in the drama from 1st scene.
Story progresses with ample twists & turns, though we already know where it is heading.
Casting of Park Min-young as FL and Lee Yi-kyung as main villain is perfect. Specially Lee Yi-kyung is not only good in his villainous acts but he was equally good in comedy scenes. Park Min-young does what she is famous for. Her acting is perfect.
Na In-woo has wooden face but he is ok as lead as his only duty is to support FL. Good enough romantic scenes between leads.
1st female villain, is good in dramatic scenes but she screamed a lot, which was annoying.
In later episodes they bring another female vamp, which is not needed, she just increases the screen time.
It's a soap opera type kdrama, good watch for kdrama lovers.
Supporting cast is good. Drama ends with predictable happy ending. I enjoyed watching it.
Sarinja-ng-Nangam (2024)
Good drama for investigative crime thriller lovers
It's a crime thriller based on webtoon,
When one accidental killing leads to another, an average college student finds himself stuck in an endless cat-and-mouse chase with a shrewd detective who will stop at nothing to capture him.
Started really intriguing, After a point drama gets predictable though it has some surprising side stories in later episode, in the middle it became slow. Some convenient things for killer and accomplice.
Best parts about the drama are performances, cinematography, appropriate slow motions,
interesting narrative, editing is top-notch.
Good drama for investigative crime thriller lovers. Recently similar kdrama came, named Vigilante, which was more realistic.
Mai Demon (2023)
I'm bit disappointed
It's a romantic comedy with supernatural elements and fantasy.
I was eager to watch this one because of the leads, both my favs but I'm somewhat disappointed. Their chemistry isn't convincing enough for me.
Initial episodes were great. Leads banter was fun. Both has their own slow-mo moments, fashion moments, visually they are stunning but not the chemistry.
Drama tried to be funny but no genuinely funny moment except the funny Tango dance fight scene.
Lot of silly things happen. Predictable cliché storyline,
cliché characters.
Many episodes are just a waste of time, this drama could have been shorter. At the end, predictable happy ending. Didn't like it much.
Though OSTs, visuals, production are great.
Animal (2023)
Cringy garbage
The movie hyped for all the wrong reasons, romanticized for wrong doings, someone need to check sanity of makers specially writer-director Sandeep Vanga.
Movie where story is absent, movie full of illogical, excessive bloodbath & gore, absurd dialogues, world full of misogynist- chauvinist toxic masculine Alpha males,
woman are mere objects for sex, they don't have brains,
Total cringe fest with excessive cringey dialogues, world where no law and order, police exists.
Where psychopathic mad protagonist is being romanticized and glorified by public who
spent so much money to watch this garbage movie in theater, again proves the fact that nasty and filthy things still sold at a hight price in market. Worst movie I have watched in recent times.
And worst part is, get ready for Animal Park.
No thanks.
Yijae, Got Jookseummida (2023)
One of the best thriller drama in recent times
Adapted from webtoon of same name, this fantasy thriller drama masterfully handles a sensitive subject like suicide and gives strong social message that suicide is not a solution, death could be painful too.
This narrative stands out as particularly bold, especially considering the high number of reported suicide cases in South Korea.
Story and screenplay is Smart, gritty, bloody, unpredictable, heart warming, heart wrenching, emotional at times. Narration is captivating, never a dull moment throughout.
Strongest plus point of the drama is ensemble of diverse and powerful cast. Lead dies 12 times and reincarnated in different bodies from baby to homeless man to thug. All the actors delivered what asked.
Lead Seo In-Guk seamlessly transitioned into reincarnated characters,
So-dam as Death is on point. Her sarcastic undertones makes her intriguing. Kim Ji-hoon effortlessly plays psychopathic billionaire.
Others are also effortless.
Action scenes specially bike chase scenes were amazing. CGI was ok but production design is superb.
Masterfully crafted each episode keeps you hook, unpredictable twists makes it entertaining.
Strong Girl Nam-soon (2023)
Nothing like Strong girl Bong-soon
This is an action comedy.
It is another installment from writer of a famous kdrama 'Strong girl Bong-soon'.
But this time it's inferior to former.
Mostly because main character Nam-soon is so stupid, dumb and acting is very loud, irritating and not likable like Bong-soon. Her superpowers are inconsistent.
Focus is not just on NamSoon but also her mother & grandmother.
All are perfect and has superpowers, there is no character arch or development. Family's men are inept. Antagonist is all vanilla not so strong as previous drama.
Male lead is sweet n cute.
I watched it in FF so able to finish quickly for good. Everything happens quickly in last two episode.
In a nutshell, "Strong Girl Namsoon" is like that sequel you watch and wish you hadn't. It's not terrible, but it's definitely not living up to the hype of the original.
Seuwiteuhom (2020)
S2 is Quite entertaining for me
Finished another kdrama
'Sweet Home' Season 2
This is an apocalyptic survival drama based on webtoon, where humans turns into monsters.
Season 2 came after 3 years.
I didn't like S 1, but this time, I find myself enjoying the show. As per webtoon readers, this season is not loyal to webtoon. There are many new characters introduced.
Drama has a mixture of Stranger things, Sweet Tooth, Last of US, Walking dead like such similar shows. CGI is hit-miss, there are some plotholes but for me it was intriguing throughout.
Though my Song Kang was only there for 4 episodes
Will look forward for S3 which will come next summer.
Bijillante (2023)
Enjoyable action thriller
Yesterday finished another kdrama......'Vigilante'
Based on webtoon of same name, this - "Vigilante" is an action thriller in which Kim Ji-yong ( Nam Joo-hyuk), who is a diligent student of Police academy by day, serves justice as vigilante to innocents on weekends.
Predictable vigilante story yet enjoyable, this intense drama has many well-known actors, who performed well. Action scenes are superb, specially hand to hand combat sequences. Drama has strong, whimsical female character.
Drama has some plotholes though.
Nam Joo-hyuk transforms himself into ferocious beast, his voice modulation as vigilante, body language & action is something to look for. Yoo Ji-tae is amazing as always. Lee Joon-hyuk surprised me, liked him.
My Nam again proved his versatility.
Neoui Sigan Sogeuro (2023)
Confusion confusion confusion
Finished another kdrama
'A Time called You'
It's a remake of Taiwanese drama 'Someday or One day'.
It's a time travel, fantasy love story,
With touch of mystery and
loads of Confusion.
Started well, runs smoothly till halfway, gets complicated, convoluted and confusing in the middle, and
ends on a lacklustre note.
There definitely has clues and mentions, viewers must connect the dots but there are lot of unnecessary twists which adds more confusion and at the end, you found out it's all meaningless.
And drama ends with usual forced kdrama style happy ending.
Though actors performed well.
My main reason to watch is my Oppa Ahn Hyo-seop.
He was good in what he did.
Choeakui Ak (2023)
Amazing JCW
It's a gangster crime drama.
Set in 1990s, Story is based on tried and tested formula, cop going under cover to expose drug mafia.
Story is predictable yet it explores bromance between hero and villain & their relationship dynamics.
Also female lead's role in both's lives. But I feel, hero and his wife's relation is undercook.
Some action scenes has cinematic feel to it and are extreme gore.
Some with typical kdrama trope, one guy against whole gang.
There are convenient plot twists with easy cliffhanger episode ends.
After a while Ji Chang Wook delivers what he is famous for, he just ate the entire series, amazingly performed, Wi Ha Joon supported well, he didn't get much scope in front of JCW except in the initial and last episode. Others supported well. Cinematography set the mood, action is good, though I generally don't like extreme gore.
Ragnarok (2020)
Great potential letdown by writers in the last season
It's a Norwegian fantasy drama.
Norse mythological character set in modern day settings.
Story had lots of potential.
First season was great, 2nd was ok,
3rd and final season is bit letdown specially last episode.
It's a really good adaptation of Norse myth and the battle between Gods and Giants.
But the ending is disastrous.
Is this much writers could think?!
They made Thor aka Mange schizophrenic and everything is happening in his head, really?
This reminds me 1899, where writers ruined the end.
Anyway all is well that ends well.
Btw, Magne played by David became more cuter in last season.
King deo raendeu (2023)
Typical predictable kdrama with all kdrama tropes
Yesterday finished another kdrama
'King the Land'
It's another swoon-worthy, cute, sweet rom-com.
Story is same old, rich guy-poor girl, how their hate relationship turned into love.
It's very predictable, there is zero tention in the plot. There is zero novelty in the story. It's a mixture of many popular kdramas.
All problems get solved easily. FL is too perfect in everything, and ML's only work is to woo FL somehow to accept him.
Anyways, it seems, they made this drama for Lee Jun-ho and Yoon-ah's fans. And it made fans very happy. Drama does get into controversy over wrong Arab cultural representation. Apart from that, it's a time pass, stress buster, easygoing drama.
Satyaprem Ki Katha (2023)
Formulaic bollywood movie that also gives social message
This is a formulaic bollywood movie with lots of unnecessary songs n dance, but also gives social message in entertaining way.
Movie feels like too stretched, specially there are many songs in 1st half but in the 2nd half, movie gets to the point. Without being preachy about social taboo message, movie delivers it's object.
Kartik Aryan is getting better with each movie, portrays a likeable character, hero who becomes supportive for his love.
Kiara again proved that if given a chance, she can deliver any character. Others supported well. More and more marathi directors are making their marks in bollywood now.
You can easily watch this movie with family, one time watch.
Heart of Stone (2023)
Another garbage by Netflix
Today's movie
'Heart of Stone'
It's an action crime thriller.
This movie is another example of garbage production by Netflix.
Gal Gadot's character is mixture of James Bond & Ethan Hunt, script is mixture of Citadel, MI 7 & all other such spy movies you could think of.
It has all the clichés of spy movies and delivers all usual tropes one after another, which is dull n boring.
Action, CGI is just passable.
Alia in her big hollywood debut is totally wasted here. Her role n acting is forgettable. They cast her just for diversity n to encash Indian audience.
The film is instantly forgettable and even Gal couldn't save it.
Kohrra (2023)
Good classic murder mystery
It's a suspense crime thriller.
It's a hard-hitting, unsettling, raw, rugged, realistic, unapologetic murder mystery which doesn't shy to show the harsh realities of Punjab.
Gripping narrative, well written, directed & acted this series follows a classic set tamplate of a police investigation, 'who done it'.
Every character has back story.
It has tight 6 episode screenplay.
It also shows police brutality & atrocity.
Though this show is not groundbreaking, we have seen such shows before. If it would have come out few years back then it could have been more effective.
All actors performed well. Barun Sobti, Satvinderpal, Manish Choudhari, Varun Badola stands out.
Yibeon Saengdo Jal Butakhae (2023)
Okay types
Finished another k-drama
'See you in my 19th Life'
It's a fantasy romantic drama.
This is another kdrama which is based on Webtoon.
As it's based on past life, reincarnation theme, it has lots of flashbacks, which sometimes jarring to watch.
Initial episodes are good than later.
Young versions & child actors are adorable to watch.
Ahn Bo-hyun didn't impress me this time. Shin Hye-sun does her best what she can with the material she got. Lead pair's chemistry didn't impress me. Others are OK. Other technical aspects are ok.
I would say this is an above average drama. Not so good not so bad.
Available on Netflix.
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Typical MI experience... Exciting!
Today I watched
'Mission Impossible:
Dead Reckoning Part 1' at a theatre near me.
It's an action adventure,
7th of this franchise.
It's a solid action movie with jaw-dropping stunts, lots of adrenaline rush.
Exactly what a MI fan is looking for.
Amazing production design, enthralling choreographed stunts, camera work, editing, bgm, twist n turns, touch of humor, that signature MI track, breathtaking locations and on top of everything Tom Cruise, what else
you could ask for.
Though story is not solid bit simple. With Some convenient stunts, less character development.
Train fight sequence gives deja vu of Pathaan sequence.
Will looking forward
to Part 2.
Schlafende Hunde (2023)
Decent one time slow burn
Yesterday finished
German series
'Schlafende Hunde'
aka 'Sleeping Dog'
It's based on Israeli series.
It's a slow burn crime thriller.
Start was confusing,
Viewers get confused just like main character.
There are many characters and
everyone has backstories,
Which are sometimes unnecessary and
doesn't add-up anything to main plot,
it's just for filler.
Main plot is okay.
It has some typical tropes.
Suspended cop with Amnesia,
portrayed as bad dad and bad husband,
has messed up personal life,
looking for redemption
and trying to remember things.
They add-up some german tropes like
LGBTQ, Racism, Nazi angle and
social commentary on that.
Cinematography is good. Decent acting.
I would say, it's a decent one time watch.
Available on Netflix.
