Cutting the Pain (2011)
As a fellow CRPS Sufferer - ugh!
I was all in until the end. As a fellow CRPS sufferer I am always very supportive of any documentary or information in this space. I was very taken by the story as was my husband. It was very captivating and emotive - although never really spelled out the person did in fact suffer from CRPS but that may be a language thing. I was all in as was my husband. It had me in tears multiple times and the story is devastating. That is until the end. Without spoiling the story it is completely unjustifiable and I had to turn it off with less than 5 minutes to go. I CANNOT support it at all. Talk about self involved. I hope the guilt of what was done at the end eats him alive. Never any excuse with these beings that rely on us completely. Sickening.
Take Care of Maya (2023)
We Believe you Maya
As a CRPS II sufferer of over 13 years now I could tell within the first few minutes this is what Maya was suffering from. Unfortunately it is very often misdiagnosed and completely misunderstood by so called medical 'professionals'.
My heart breaks for Maya & her family. As an adult this disease is excruciating and a very hard journey to navigate. Children should NEVER have to experience this condition. Her Mother was a protective warrior advocate! Things should never be this hard. This documentary is a sad but very real insight into a rare complex disease & condition and how sufferers & families are treated, dismissed & often worse, not just in the US, but around the world!
May this much needed documentary shed light on this condition & others and may this family find some justice. This family will forever be in my families hearts & thoughts going forward. We believe you Maya.
Manifesto of a Serial Killer (2023)
The human element of truly heinous crime
If you are a True Crime Documentary fan this is a must see. This is a major True Crime story which has surprisingly not often been told, and when it has been, it has not been told in depth - nor from the victim's families perspective, which is a disservice to them & their pain. Shot with current and old footage, this documentary gives the viewer a first hand look into the behaviour of people involved at the time of the crimes. This is a well crafted documentary which tells all the facts, whilst also highlighting the very human element of family that can't help but make anyone with a heart emotional at the stories told.
Pressure Cooker (2023)
You can't please everyone!
This show is a nice new spin on the stock standard Reality Based Cooking Show formula. If you are sick and tired of the same old cooking shows they pump out by the hundreds each year under different names, all with basically the same rules, annoying hosts & irritating judges, then this is definitely worth a look. To all the people that are bellyaching about how this show is unfair, may I remind you that you have plenty of other mainstream Reality Cooking Shows to watch. Besides, the majority of decisions were based on pure integrity anyway so seriously get a GRIP! When peoples faves don't win they try to grasp at any straw they can! Cry me a river! It's so bloody refreshing to see things shaken up for a change!!!!!!
Snowflake Mountain (2022)
Ignore the elite haters!
For those that consistently rate shows like this low after claiming to have watched only one episode when clearly they have only stuck it out for 5 minutes, they know they aren't going to like it in the first place so why watch it & then rate it? You are wasting both yours and everyone else's time! I don't like romance movies, would I rate one? No.
If you want a semi mindless reality show to watch that's a bit of fun whilst seeing how unbelievable it is to see how some 'kids' (into their mid 20s) are leeching off their parents and how they cope in a situation they were not expecting or are accustomed to - this is quite entertaining! I laughed and there were a lot of very human moments as well.
Will it win an Emmy? No. Was it entertaining? Yes. I would be more than happy to see a second series of it too.
The Way Down: God, Greed and the Cult of Gwen Shamblin (2021)
Stop the unnecessary judgement!
Brilliant and eye opening documentary that is very well done. Was surprised to see new episodes released today but they were a brilliant addition to an already fascinating story. I will NEVER judge anyone who joins any organisation with pure motives. Anyone can find themselves at any stage in life looking for something, whether it be friendship, comfort, belonging, spirituality or simple support. I do however blame those that pray on peoples pure motives and take advantage of them. Those individuals and organisations are where the blame solely lays. The shaming of individual members past & present is an atrocious and uneducated way to deal with what are clearly orchestrated money making enterprises from the start.
Procession (2021)
Gripping, Soul Destroying, Powerful & Brave
We didn't even hear close to the worst of what these boys endured. Can you imagine? These appalling acts go unpunished and these Priests remain within the Church until they die? How there is a statute of limitations on Child Abuse or any protections over religious groups or anyone at all inflicting these atrocious crimes is an outright disgrace. It is clearly evident the permanent devastation caused by the deplorable actions and the continual pain re-endured by the victims when they are fobbed off by the church & law enforcement.
This documentary was an incredibly well crafted piece and it was inspiring to see the power given back to these victims and to witness them use their voices to shed a new light on the injustices caused to them and so many others whilst also having personal breakthroughs and finding lifelong friends throughout their journey. It was truly a privilege to witness.
I wish each and every one of you strength and much love throughout the rest of your journey. We all believe you and wish this had never happened to any child. You all deserve justice and peace in your lives. Thank you for sharing your stories with us.
Upright (2019)
Completely envelopes your heart & soul
This series is simply sublime. Not only does it have a unique ability to keep the audience enthralled whilst only revealing small snippets of information of the characters lives like peeling back layers from an onion, it manages to do it in such a uniquely, stunningly, at times comedic and at other times devastating way.
This series will leave an indelible mark on anyone who watches it. It is raw, clever, artistic, intelligent, funny, pure, beautiful, imaginative and real. I have to say it is one of my favourite Television series of all time. I can't even see an Ad for it it without smiling and becoming moved by it. Let's hope that Tim Minchin and everyone involved continue to act in Australia and make more wonderful series like this in Australia. Well done to Foxtel for funding this! This is something to be proud of! Thank you so much for giving us all this series to enjoy!
Abducted in Plain Sight (2017)
Hard to believe this could happen!
Whilst it is uncomfortable to watch, and very easy to judge, we do also need to realise what a different world it was back then. Think what you may of these parents - and I have probably thought it as well regarding their naivety whilst watching it too, but they were brave to come out publicly and be honest regarding their story now to make others aware of the sick people that can live in our communities. Well worth watching, if for no other reason to educate yourself on just what incredible lengths these sick individuals are willing to go to. Whilst these parents were gullible, this man would have continued trying anything he could until he got what he wanted, and if not with Jan with someone else.
Boar (2017)
I waited over a Year to love it, but I couldn't.
Firstly, I rated this a generous 2 stars because I support the work of Chris Sun, Australian Horrors and the idea was a great one.
I have been looking forward to this movie for over a year, ever since seing Melissa Tkautz talking about it on the RHOS. I can't remember how often I have searched for it hoping I could buy it. Finally, this week was the date I had saved in my calendar to purchase it on ITunes, and buy it I did!
What a waste of money. Honestly, I am not one to bash movies, especially Aussie Horrors, but the script writing here is woeful beyond belief. Random characters introduced for no good purpose, whilst characters involved in the guts of the film aren't developed properly and their lines are just dreadful. There is no chemistry between many of the actors and the main attempt made at making it 'typically bush Aussie' is throwing costant four letter f bombs in stupid contextual places throughout the place. It is complete nonsense.
This film had the potential to be a powerhouse creature feature set in the Aussie Bush. The Boar is actually realistic looking considering the size and many other large creatures I've seen in other similar films. Unfortunately, the script falls so flat (and it pains me beyond belief to say this being a huge supporter of the main people involved and many of the actors here) it is a complete disaster I will never watch again. A woeful, tragic, mess of a disaster. Long winded, excruciatingly awkward to witness snor-t fest.
Blood Hunt (2017)
Not your run of the mill Scare Fest
OK ~ I will begin by admitting some of the acting lacks some pizazz especially at the beginning. Whether it was the script or the actor/actress I am unsure. However.....don't let that turn you off! If you want something a little different (not a typical horror fright fest of jumps), and you can handle some confronting violence then it's quite a good flick given the budget. I'm looking forward to watching for more works from this up and coming writer/producer/director and seeing what's to come. PS ~ very good performance by the lead as well! It certainly hasn't let the recent great Horror Flicks coming from Oz down. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it's one I would watch again.
