Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Horrible
Hugh Jackman just ruined his Wolverine legacy all because Reynold's ego needed to ride on an actual actor's laurels.
A bunch of characters who just regenerate when they get hurt equals no suspense or concern for anyone -- you might as well just play a video game.
I would give Reynolds kudos for recycling if it pertained to refuse and not the jokes in this film -- but it does champion the phrase 'there is nothing new under the sun'.
In summation, this film was Reynolds just mugging for the camera and silently but very obviously shouting, look at me! Look at me! As for Jackman, I'm guessing the size of the money truck they drove up to his house paid for a renovation and then some.
Horrible.
The Ballad of Davy Crockett (2024)
Garbage
Poorly written, poorly directed - at least we only have one person to blame for this.
I can forgive the historic mistakes because films can do what they want with facts, they always have... but what kind of moronic hero tries to take on numerous adversaries at the same time with no intention of putting them down permanently?
He vows to save his kids who have been forcibly taken, his wife beaten and left to die, yet when he gets the upper hand on these goons he lets them go only to have them come back at him again and again and again -- and he wonders why he's continually beaten to a pulp.
It was like watching a Davy Crockett version of the 1980s A-Team with guns and knives but no one dies.
This is the third or fourth film I've watched recently where the so-called vigilante hero goes through the entire 90 minutes and don't harm a soul... is this the new trend... pointless films?
Paradise Highway (2022)
Boring, predictable, and cliche
With such a cast you'd expect so much more from both the script and the director, both of which are the same person... and that in itself was probably the first mistake.
It truly looked as if Freeman and Grillo were in need of a quick paycheck. It was nice to see Binoche flex her acting chops in this type of role, if only the script rose to her level. The pace of the film drags and the way they use Grillo, the ending is so obvious its' painful.
I think we could see Binoche in more roles like this, but please -- give her a good writer and a much better director to compliment her undeniable talent and screen presence.
But until then, c'est la vie.
Gilmore Girls (2000)
Two of the most horrible people on earth.
If these two main characters lived next door to you in real life, you'd sell your home and move away. Aside from their holier than thou attitude, they're sneaky, selfish, petty, vindictive, and a slew of other nasty flaws - they're so smart and articulate they'd easily convince Copernicus to re-evaluate the true center of the universe... them.
I would compliment the casting, the acting, and the writing - but would really inquire how hard it would've been to write characters with redeemable qualities.
These two should either go live on an island alone in the Pacific, or move somewhere above the tree line and be forced to deal with the most internally ugly people in the history of the world - each other.
Elvis (2022)
HORRIBLE!
This film is a complete train wreck.
Hanks was just creepy as all heck, and the make up was something I'd expect in an Ed Wood film.
Kudos to Butler though, he was fantastic in the energy and emotion, but sadly it wasn't enough to save the film... in fact, his amazing performance just magnified all the flaws in this production.
As for Baz and his direction, he tried waaaaaay too hard to impressed, trying to bedazzle each and every frame of the film... it was over the top and came off like some carny shill trying to misdirected our attention away from his trick and con with shiny items and other glittering distractions... and we come away from the experience feeling manipulated, regretting our decision to watch at all.
Who Is Erin Carter? (2023)
UNWATCHABLE! UNLIKEABLE! UNBELIEVABLE!
This production is the perfect storm for a horrible show.
Terrible casting all round, but the lead is just not right for the part, nor the action the character needs to pull off -- just not believable in any way shape or form.
We can drive trucks through the plot holes which are so glaringly obvious it pulls you right out of the show and leaves you sitting on your couch (or chair) mumbling to yourself and waxing nostalgic about the lost beauty of the entertainment world.
This show is just another example of how the importance of a good story and solid character has become secondary to the importance of producer or company perceptions so they get praised on social media sites.
Blech!
Little Dixie (2023)
Makes 80 minutes feel like 3 hours!
One of the worst films ever made.
There is absolutely nothing redeemable in any character, nothing likeable, no one to cheer for, no one to worry about... basically you just want them to go away... and fast.
The premise tries so hard to be clever, but it ends up being like that annoying guy at a party who knows all the big words but the more he talks the more you realize he has no clue about the subject he's talking about.
Grillo must've needed to buy a boat or something and he figured this was quick cash.
Obviously they used Grillo's name to anchor the film, but its gonna sink him right to the bottom. I wouldn't be surprised if this film hurts his marketability because not only is the film terrible, Grillo just mails it in, so let's hope he did that boat out of the deal.
Avoid this film at all costs.
Walker (2021)
What's the point...
Everyone but the title character has their lives together -- how would this guy be a Texas Ranger?
Thanks to completely biased writing to make some sort of 'statement', Walker can't do anything right. He's a terrible cop, a terrible partner, his family thinks he's an idiot, his kids can't stand him.
Why the heck would want to cheer for a character that has been so dismantled by disgruntled writing, he is completely useless?
Was the original cheesy? Yep... but that Walker seemed like he was good at his job and cared about others. He was competent and reliable.
Jared's Walker is not needed in this reboot, the rest of the cast have got it all covered, but maybe that was his plan all along -- mail it in and take the cash.
The Gray Man (2022)
Pointless... simply pointless
It takes a lot of skill to have a stellar cast and deliver sludge, so in that regard, the Russo's are gifted.
There is no point to this film... the hero does everything he can to achieve a certain goal, but when it's all said and done (except for one dead villain), nothing happens to the other key a-holes in their power positions, they stay in power and receive zero punishments for their actions, plus they get the item they want... and why?
Check out the casting and you'll figure it out.
Just another example of how fall Hollywood had fallen from good stories, good resolutions, and the cliched BS of letting the villains get away with it because... ah you know, the Russo bros. Just want to keep favor with the suits.
The Estate (2022)
I liked it better when I saw it in 1994
It was called GREEDY with Michael J. Fox and Kirk Douglas.
The Estate is a poor rip-off and horribly executed.
I give the cast credit for trying to do the best they could, but it was pretty obvious from the opening credits how much of a downhill train wreck this film was going to be.
If the writer/director had given us a few characters, no, even one character to cheer for, perhaps there might be something to salvage -- but for some reason the filmmaker expected us to find the dark depths of human malevolence and piggishness humorous... it wasn't.
Here's hoping this director's next outing (if he gets one) makes up for this obvious mistake.
Modern Love: When the Doorman Is Your Main Man (2019)
BRILLIANT
One of the best things I've watched all year.
I can only hope the rest are as good.
Modern Love: Rallying to Keep the Game Alive (2019)
Laboured, boring, preachy.
Weakest of the series so far. Sadly I expected a lot more.
Ah well.
Roswell, New Mexico (2019)
A triple threat in... 'bad"
Bad acting, bad dialogue, and bad story line. I don't care about the political side of the show -- you can't avoid that nowadays. But bad TV is bad TV - this is horrid.
Smallfoot (2018)
Light Years Better than FROZEN
Great story, funny, engaging and great animation. Give it a try - you WON'T be disappointed.
To All the Boys I've Loved Before (2018)
C'mon Netflix... really?
With all the hype, I broke down and gave it a watch. Big mistake.
I have a feeling the novel was probably a lot better, but they dropped the ball on the film adaptation. Watch at your own risk.
Father of the Year (2018)
I weep for Netflix... and the future.
The trailer had me going in with the lowest expectations possible, and the film still disappointed. Spade with the worst Adam Sandler 'That's My Boy' imitation of all time -- and a slew of characters... none of which anyone will care about.
Comedies are supposed to make you laugh - not make you angry.
C'mon Netflix -- get it together!
The New Legends of Monkey (2018)
A good effort... if there was in fact... effort.
I forced myself to watch the first few episodes and I'm done. Yes I know for the audience they're targeting it may seem like a victory -- but I found the episodes painful to watch on every level possible.
Yes, the series could be worse -- but it could also be so much better in its writing, production values -- and casting.
I'm sure there will be an audience that will enjoy this series -- and I forgive them. :)
Salvation (2017)
Just when I think I'm done with this show....
... it manages to pull me back just enough to watch one more episode. I'm not saying a lot the story is predictable, but... well you see where I'm going here.
That being said - there is something here and hopefully after a few more episodes I'll figure out what it is. I would tell people reading this review to give the show a look.
Somewhere Between (2017)
I gave it a try... but....
... I just couldn't get past the poor acting and the uneven characters. At first I thought maybe the directing & editing dulled the sharpness of the performances, but at the end of the day... wow.
I've seen a few of the actors in other shows and they were good, so I don't know what happened here, but I doubt I'll watch another episode.
