The Art of Action (2020)
Adkins surprises!
As a fan of Scott Adkins films I thought I'd give this a try with no real expectations. He's a surprisingly good interviewer and gives his guests plenty of ammunition to speak freely about their careers.
If you're a fan of action films then this YouTube show is a must see.
Roadkill (2020)
Watchable but doesn't really go anywhere
First off I really enjoyed this, good performances all round, interesting characters and some impressive set ups. The big problem that stops this from going from good to great is that there is no real story. I kept expecting some sort of direction but its more of a snapshot of an ambitious politician than a story. Maybe a second season may bring more.
Prime Rewind: Inside the Boys (2020)
How could they get this so wrong?
The boys is probably the best show on TV at the moment so how could this be so awful? Just having people talk about the episode would have worked fine rather than have them babble nonsense for three quarters of it. And even more it would be bad if they totally ignored Garth Ennis for supplying the source material but no they have continual digs at it like its the ugly adopted child of the family and give no credit to it.
Spitting Image (2020)
All bite, no teeth
The original spitting image pushed the boundaries firing shots in every direction and not caring who it upset. In the modern world you can't do that and it shows here. The jokes are weak as to not offend too much. If they become braver then it can be brilliant but can't see it happening.
After Life (2019)
Best comedy DRAMA I've ever seen
Let me explain my title. After Life is a drama with comedy moments. For me this is Ricky Gervais best work. Just a beautiful written and acted snap shot of a man overcome with grief and how it effects him and the people around him.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Important in the MCU, maybe not on its own
Age of Ultron when it was released I gave it 6/10, on rewatching on what comes after its an incredibly important part if not the most of the whole series of films. It sets up pretty much everything that comes after.
Parks and Recreation (2009)
Battle through season 1 and then enjoy the best sitcom of recent times
Probably my favourite comedy show of all time. Season 1 is a bit hard going due to it trying a bit too hard to be like the office but once you hit the first Tammy episode in season 2 then the real quality starts which is the only reason why it doesn't get a 10 from me.
Chasing Amy (1997)
Ultimate gen X movie
No film shows the 90's gen X/slacker film movement of the 90s like this. Whip smart dialogue, great performances (yes Ben Affleck can act) and non traditional camera movements. One of my favourites and along with the Princess Bride the only film I've bought on VHS, DVD, Blu-ray and digital.
Shazam! (2019)
Great fun
Takes a while to get going but really enjoyable and funny when it does. Zach Levi is fantastic. Hopefully it gets a sequel as it's definitely a worthwhile addition to the superhero genre.
Little Monsters (2019)
Solid zom com
Really enjoyed this. Reminded me of early Peter Jackson comedy horrors without the gore.
Rise of the Nazis (2019)
Well worth a watch
Fantastic 3 part docu-drama showing the political rise to power of Hitler and the nazi party. The experts are informative but not preachy and the cut scenes actually help with showing what happened rather than feeling like showboating. Would be 10/10 except for some unusual choices of experts in particular Ash Sarkar who has no connection to what the show is about.
Serbuan maut 2: Berandal (2014)
The best martial arts or action film ever
Absolutely breathtaking piece of filmmaking. The fight scenes are phenomenal, the cinematography is fantastic and the story though clichéd is exactly what's needed to tie the scenes together. I'd happily watch it on a loop.
Serbuan maut (2011)
Best action film of the new century except for its sequel
There's very little story but when the fight scenes are as good as this then it doesn't need one. Definitely a hidden gem and a fantastic introduction to Indonesian martial arts films. If you enjoy this then you'll love the sequel too.
Carnival Row (2019)
As subtle as using a tank to kill a fly
Just finished the second episode and god it's a pretty poor effort. Using fantasy to comment on modern issues is a brilliant device when done well but there has to be even a tiniest bit of subtly about it which this show doesn't have. The two leads don't have the acting chops to carry the show in any way though I have marked it 4 stars as it does look gorgeous in terms of design and sfx.
Wu Assassins (2019)
I don't know why I like it but I do
The acting isn't great, the special effects are probably from about 10 years ago standard and it's cheesy as hell but I'm really enjoying it. The fight scenes are fantastic. You'll know after 1 episode if you want to watch more.
Spawn (1997)
Who the HELL approved those effects???
Not a bad film but seriously let down by the hell sequences which look like they were done by a child messing around with Microsoft paint.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Not a bad idea, just badly done
I've no real problem with an all female ghostbusters film the only problem I have with this is that it's not very good. The comedy isn't funny and the acting is not much better. There are a couple of scenes that aren't too bad, mostly with Chris Hemsworth, the effects are very good but it's a shame it just doesn't work.
Banshee (2013)
Totally original but not for the easy offended
I can honestly say there is no other show like Banshee around, for me in a very good way. Some people may not be able to take the graphic sex and violence but once you look past that there's a great story and fantastic performances especially from Antony Starr.
Good Omens (2019)
Finally Gaiman done right
Enjoyable, funny and exactly how I imagine Neil Gaiman's writing to look. Can lag a bit but the two leads make it very enjoyable watching.
The Boys (2019)
Great show
A lot of the reviews are having a dig at the show because it's not like the comics. I've read them, I'm a huge fan of them and there is no chance that what is in the books could have ever been filmed or allowed to be shown. Taking the show on its own merits its fantastic fun that I'd definitely recommend anyone watching.
